AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-core, 24-thread unlocked desktop processor with Wraith Prism LED Cooler

Even with a noctua cooler on it, it can get pretty hot on default settings. I used Ryzen Master to lock the volts a bit lower, and got the cores locked at 4250 it runs more stable and steady now. Ran an iray render in CPU mode for hours with no crash, on default it would crash after a while. Hasnt gotten hotter than 80C since I tweaked it, was hitting high 90s before with iray render. This thing was a huge bump in both benchmark score, and in program performance from my 2600x. More than I expected, usually when I upgrade CPU benchmark goes a bit up, but I dont notice any difference other than that.

The Tctl temperature that motherboards use as a proxy for CPU temperature on this chip is a raw value with no moving average applied. So at idle at least every 10 seconds it will jump 10 to 15 degrees C (18-27 F) for a split second before dropping back down to the CCD 1 & 2 die temperatures. That sets the included Wraith Prism off toward full RPM with a loud roar. Of course, before the CPU fan even has a chance to significantly increase speed the temperature has dropped back down. But the fan wont know that until the next temperature reading so the fan continues loudly toward full max RPM. A few seconds later the fan drops its speed back down, only to have the cycle repeated about 10 seconds later. Really ANNOYING.

Great product

It’s honestly the fastest chip I’ve ever used. So fast that I’m having trouble figuring out what to do with this much power. Little pricey tho, but good buy.

I can’t speak on deep dive technical strengths and weaknesses since I haven’t kept up with the tech since 2004. I can tell you that the performance is leaps and bounds from what I started with. This chip replaced an AMD A10-5800K. It would take roughly 2-3 hours to transcode 1 hour and 45 minute videos in 1080p using handbrake. This Ryzen 3900x does it in 10-20 minutes! 4K takes awhile longer.... like 3 hours. CPU temps maxes out to 76°C while being worked hard. Idle temp is around 47°C using AIO water cooling.

Stop claiming products are New when clearly they are not.
