Epson Home Cinema 2040 1080p 3D 3LCD Home Theater Projector

Fantastic projector. I picked this up during the Black Friday pricing and couldnt be happier... It was originally used in my holiday lights display as a rear projector for Santa in the front window and it was amazingly crisp and bright. It now lives with me in the man cave and is being projected onto a plain white wall and looks AMAZING. Weve had big screen 55+ LCD/LEDs in the past, but nothing even comes close to how this projector looks filling a wall. Will never go back to watching movies on the small screen again. Im also a avid gaming and am very happy with how the projector works with my XBOX. No lag issues noticeable at all. If I had to pick a single con about the project it would have to be the frame interpolation sometimes has issues with certain sources and can introduce noticeable stutter or jerkiness. Seems to be very hit an miss and most of the time and work perfectly.

I have 3,000 hours on the bulb that came with this, its used heavily. The picture is fantastic on my 9 screen, its a stationary screen with a black felt border. I can see every hair and every pore on faces with a Blu-Ray, Netflix, or any 1080P source. Works great with the PS4, great for games. Easy to use menus, nice remote. Very bright for a theatre projector, brighter than the $4,000 Sony projector I replaced with this one. DO NOT buy a universal mount, dont be cheap, fork over the money for the Epson mount. I bought a cheap $20 universal mount and upon installation immediately purchased the Epson mount (which was $120 I believe?) The Epson mount is solid, quality built, and much easier to use and setup.

Im very happy to have this projector. I have it placed a little over 10 feet from the wall and the projection size is 118 inches! The picture quality is excellent and much brighter than my last projector. The resolution is crisp and the text is easy to read. I have it plugged into my computers graphics card (MSI RX 480 8GB). I am very happy with the black levels and video quality. The refresh rate is 60Hz at 1080p which is excellent and I have not noticed any lag time with gaming. If you play first person shooters, the input lag is not noticeable at all! I have the projector running on ECO mode as well and didnt notice a jump in input lag. Make sure the signal image processing is set to fast. So far I have used 187 lamp hours since purchase and havent had any overheating problems or any issues. The fan is much quieter than my last O***a projector. Honestly, my computers liquid cooling fan is much louder than the projector fan noise. Pros: Sharp image Reasonably priced True 1080p native resolution at 60Hz Low input lag Bright image even with sunlight peeking through Rarely have to adjust focus, stays in focus for weeks! I like the auto keystone and zoom adjustment Quick menu navigation and good remote Decent audio volume output Reasonably priced replacement lamps Great design and build quality Cons: Speakers could be better quality but not bad Lamp life could be better No TV coaxial input for watching antennae HDTV Price does not drop very much over time Not AMD Freesync compatible! Conclusion: Overall I would rate this projector a 9/10. The price is nice and much cheaper than purchasing a 70+ television. Sure the bulb will have to be replaced a few times but for about 100 bucks for a new bulb, its a great deal. I almost bought a 65 4K TV but felt like I really wanted to continue a projector experience. This is the second projector I have purchased and one that I have researched thoroughly. This is probably the best bang for your buck. I spent hours researching and clearly I am satisfied with the purchase.

This is my first home theater projector, so take my opinions with a grain of salt, but I am very happy with it. At the time, I was debating between this Epson 2040 and either the BenQ W1070 or slightly new HT1075. The vertical positioning of the Epson wasnt an issue for me, so the ultimate tipping of the scales was that this Epson went on sale for $699 (list of $799) at the time I was looking to buy. Brightness There are 4 varying levels of brightness than you can select depending on how much ambient light is in the room. During the daytime, I usually run it on the max setting to get the best picture. My set up is not ideal and actually have a fairly large bay window right next to the projector screen, but I can still manage a good picture in spite of the high level of background light. The downside is that the fan is working hard to keep the projector cool and is pretty loud on the brightest setting. At night however (which is 90% of the time I normally use it), we run it on the lower settings and the fan is practically silent. Color Shift? Im not sure what the correct term for this is, but as other reviewers have noticed, there is a detectable color separation of green and purples on the edges of still black and whites next to each other on a menu or setup screen. Im not sure what this means, but its definitely there when you get up close to the screen. But once I sit back down at normal viewing distance, I dont notice the difference. And I definitely cant see a difference when watching a movie or anything else. In the end, I may have been happy no matter which projector I opted for, but this one has certainly exceeded my expectations.

One very important note. DO not use this with a throw distance over 18 feet. It cant scale down enough. Mine is displayed on the side walls and I cant adjust it any smaller. Update: 9/10/18. The power cord that comes with it could stand to stick into the prongs a bit better. When we recently moved this to a throw of about 17 feet and tried to maneuver it to the right height and mark the ceiling hole, it would cut out as we were holding it. Thought it was the lamp, no, it was just the cord coming slightly loose in the projector. So far though, aside from the shorter throw limit, it has worked flawlessly. Son uses it for gaming and wife and I use it for movie watching. We didnt paint he dang wall, and it seems fine for all of us. No screen pain or special cloth. We all still enjoy it. Its hard to complain when your TV just grew to a 9x7 picture.

Stopped working after an 1hr. I was impressed with the picture quality until it stopped displaying video, audio carried on for a few seconds then the status light(blue) and Lamp light(amber) started flashing. Epson state the unit is effectively DOA. Their RMA process will charge your card the equivalent of another projector, hopefully Amazon returns process will be smoother. Update The Amazon returns process is always a breeze! I have had the replacement projector for several weeks and could not be happier. Excellent colors and picture quality not too far off from OLED. Great results even in a room with some light coming in via blinds. I havent mounted it and dont have a screen, walls a gray and I can move it room to room until I ever decide where to mount it permanently. A definite recommendation but I would do a burn in for several hours to make sure you dont get a lemon

Features are good , 3d is best but wished would be a little brighter . PS4 works flawless, gaming is awesome, movies are fair too. And all who complaining about black levels and s*** are wasting your time .Understand this , for deep blacks performance even for TV it will cost around 2 gs for a 55 to 60 inch .Hell even 4ks couldnt cut it through , and the reason is simple it depends on the viewing distance , average 10 to 12 feet everything looks the same 1080 or 4k , unless u buy bigger tv which is all above 3grands .Dont fall for the gimmicks used , as a user experience and price this is a big bang for the buck .It deserves 5 stars for competitive price . Handy tip Use preset 3 for blue ray and 3d movies , will make a lot better .And if u dont care about lamp hours then use cinema bright , the best 100 inch in u r wall

This projector is the first Ive ever purchased. I did a decent amount of research before hand but I was still unsure exactly what to expect. I dont have a proper home theater room. The walls are white, I can shut the blinds and close the door.. but thats it. I purchased a Silver Ticket 92 screen to go with this. First off . .maybe the works in a bright room claims are exaggerated. Perhaps compared to other projectors. Compared to a regular tv, though, this projector is highly susceptible to light. That being said, I find it watchable, with the blinds closed, at all but the brightest parts of the day. The second big question in my mind was the black level . .how bad were they? Pretty bad, actually. Even at night, with the blinds and doors closed, dark scenes are noticeably washed out. If you only watch movies it could be a deal breaker, otherwise its probably OK. . but its noticeable. The color is great. Bright scenes pop with lots of detail. There is not a lot of blurring. Sports look really good. .Ive watched basketball and golf so far - there are some issues but its a very enjoyable viewing experience. Watching golf, for example, theres some blur when the ball is moving fast but, for chips and putts, the ball is tracked pretty well. Its kind of in between my old Pioneer Kuros Plasma and my new Samsung LCD. There is less detail and not as good blacks as the Kuros, but more natural looking than the Samsung. Last things - cartoons, web content and video games. This thing is amazing for all of the above. Cartoons look absolutely amazing - if you have little kids they will be jaws-on-the-foor. Netflix and Amazon video seem to look even better than my cable HD. Its great for video games. I have no comparison as this is my first projector but we use it a lot for PS3 games and I cant tell any difference in response time from the lcd tv we used to have it hooked up to. Last last things . .the price! For the price it is . .it is a cant miss. Even if its not everything you ever wanted in a projector, its great and if youre looking to get your first projector you wont be sorry. You can watch anything on it - from movies to cartoons to video games. The replacement bulbs are cheap. I bought a screen but it looks good just on the wall. My kids, in fact, insist that we do movie night on the wall because it can be bigger. Im pretty amazed at what such an inexpensive projector can do.

Overall: I cannot express how truly happy I am with this projector! I received this projector in December and have been using it non-stop since! I previously had an Epson 705HD and that was a good projector but this one makes that seem like it was childs play. The image is definitely 1080p and colors are vibrant and bright. There are several color modes to choose from (Dynamic, Cinema, Bright Cinema) and I prefer to use Cinema. I have not used the 3D capability as of yet because I do not have a 3D player as of yet, but I expect that the 3D is just as amazing as the rest of the projector. I want to talk about the frame interpolation a little bit. This is something that many high-end projectors have and it is very apparent when it is on. I personally love it because it makes the images seem clearer and smoother. At times, however it makes the images look fake because of the effect of the heightened frame rate. There is also a slight problem with the processing of movement with words. When the interpolation is on and there is a sweeping landscape, or when there are words on the side of a vehicle driving through the frame, the words lose their definition. Here it is obvious that the interpolation programming is attempting to pick the relevant information and becomes obvious. Even with these negatives, the overall opinion I have is that the interpolation is worth it; the picture is smoother and, to me, appears crisper. There are many inputs and outputs from the unit which make it quite versatile. I have only one HDMI plugged in currently, but it is a comfort to know that I could use more inputs if need be. The noise from the fan, as some people have noticed, is present, but only when the bulb is set to normal. Keeping the setting on Eco fixes this and makes the fan almost silent. I find that Eco is plenty bright for all the purposes I need. Also, having a good 5.1 system will really help with the noise (i know, duh) because this will diminish what can be heard coming from the fan. Only during silent scenes will there be any noise heard, and this is less than the sound that most fridges make when they are running. There is very little light leakage. Some projectors have lines of light rays that escape from the housing and cause bright spots in the dark room; I have not noticed any of these. I am using the projector with a 100 inch screen and it is very crisp and bright. I have used bigger screens with the projector and, of course, with a bigger screen comes the downside of seeing more pixels. You will definitely want to start using Blu-Ray players if you havent already. With my previous projector and some TVs the difference between the two is negligible, but not so with this projector. DVDs are much less clear and it is very obvious once you begin using blu-rays. The remote reaches from very far and very many angles; there are 2 sensors on the projector for the IR signal and this means that you dont have to be in the right place like some other projectors on the market. Thank you Epson! I was comparing this to some DLP projectors and ultimately went with this one. I have not used a DLP and therefore cannot speak to their image quality, but I can assure you that you will not be disappointed by making this your next home theater investment. I am a very happy customer and have recommended it many times!

I had a Epson DLP projector from 2005 that gave a nice 720p picture - so when it came time to replace it, I thought Id buy another Epson. I am not disappointed. In fact this model is SOOOOO much better. The picture is sharp from corner to corner. Bright and full saturated color. I keep it on the economy setting and it is silent. In regular mode it makes very little fan noise. I keep the auto-iris turned off. It makes an annoying noise and doesnt help the picture. Im not sure what they were thinking when they added that feature. It throws a 100 picture in a 8 foot space. The lens is amazingly sharp. There is supposed to be a problem with contrast with LED projectors, but this one makes blacker blacks than my 11 year old DLP. I watch a lot of old movies in black-and-white and again this projector blows away the old DLP. Add to that a lamp replacement cost of under $70 compared to the $450 for the old model and the 8000 hour lamp life and you have a compelling reason to get this one. A great projector, a great picture (the Super Bowl looked amazing). The 3D is totally immersive. It looks like stuff comes right off the screen in front of you. Very effective. I got Panasonic and Samsung glasses and they both work perfectly with the Epson. I bought a grey screen to cut down on light scatter. My room doesnt get very dark, yet the picture is perfect. I am very happy with my new projector and recommend it very highly.
