Nice cheap way to ensure proper rotation when wiring three phase. It is fairly low quality and I do not expect it to last too long, but if you want to cover your butt and make sure you have all the wires in the right place, this thing will do you right.

I may not use it every day but it has worked every time that i have used it, seems to be built well. The colors of the cords have nothing to do with Electrical Code. Over all great buy for the money

Very good product for purpose. If you are an electrician who does a lot of 3 phase motor hook ups this is a good time saver. you can check rotation by clipping to in put power at starter. check indicated rotation on meter against desired rotation of motor. if they match you connect your motor as is.If the rotation is backwards you swap two motor T leads and terminate. Saves you the trouble of making connections improperly and operating motor in reverse. (possibly damaging pump or compressor.) Then having to remake all our connections correctly. Pros: Carry case. Easy to use. Obvious indication of rotation. Cons: Color of leads may make beginner think green lead goes to ground. (just hook up by letter.) Why include the UV detectors. I wasted more time trying to figure out when I would use these, and why they were included. Ok, not really a con.

This phase rotation tester works just fine for me. Im using it on 3 phase 120 volt (60 Hz) circuits. Ive seen diagrams for phase rotation testers, and considering how few parts it takes, theres absolutely no reason to pay any more for one than this costs. I believe its rugged enough for normal use, and the leads are good quality. The case it comes in, however, is too small and its a real pain to get the tester, leads, and clips all back into place. I plan on getting a camera case thats large enough to make getting the tester in and out quicker and easier. I tossed the UV radiation tester in the trash. From what I read about it elsewhere, the its useful life is just a few days. Probably why its included free (they couldnt get rid of them any other way).
