What a mysterious little book. I downloaded this early this morning with the idea of reading a chapter or two before I began my day. Didnt work. Never could put it down and walk away. I believe this is Merlin Frasers first book and I was prepared to be lenient on his literary efforts. It could use a little editing, but not so much that its distracting in its present state. The writing is simple and straightforward and the subject matter is something Im quite familiar with, so I zipped through it quickly. Imagine my surprise when he managed to slip in an ending I didnt see coming, and my delight. Mr. Fraser also managed to sneak in some thoughts about the familiar subject that I hadnt entertained before. Of course, his first name IS Merlin, isnt it? Hmmmmmm. Downloading the second book in this trilogy now.

I read and enjoy quite a lot of detective/mystery with a paranormal slant but this book was definitely not what I anticipated. No vampires, no werewolves, no fairies or goblins, but a very well crafted and imagined link with out of body experience and university level controlled experiments. The mystery, as a mystery, was well plotted, with excellent characterization that gave me an immediate interested in the characters. There were a couple of plot twists that were unexpected and an ending that I definitely did not see coming, though I did not feel it was contrived. Ive just downloaded the second book in the series with hopes this author can do it again.

Inner Space Book 1 - Merlin Fraser I wasnt quite certain what I was going to find in Inner Space Book 1 by the title, although after reading the description I was prepared for a crime mystery, with a difference. What I wasnt prepared for was just how intriguing and thought-provoking that `difference would be, in this captivating story. Inner Space would easily appeal to several genres. There is the crime mystery itself skilfully written and tailored with totally believable, true-to-life characters. There is the expertly crafted romantic element intertwined perfectly with the story-line. And there is the paranormal aspect which also makes this book at the top of the list for must-read reading, especially if you like to explore possibilities which may take you out of your comfort zone. Its impossible to equate Inner Space to any other crime mystery style I have ever read; it is so deliciously, refreshingly, different, although authors Agatha Christie and Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch) came fleetingly to mind, from my reading experiences. I found it extremely difficult to put this book down, and it was made all that much more difficult because there were no unnecessary blocks of description which served to sway me from continuing. Inner Space Book 1 comes highly recommended, and I cant wait to read the remaining two books in the trilogy. J M Lennox

I have had Merlin Frasers trilogy on my kindle for some time - my TBR list is a mile long - but yesterday I got stuck into this and I am so glad I did! Fascinating characters working around the notion of astral travel! Detective Inspector Nick Burtons boss, Chief Superintendent Dan Davies commits the apparently motiveless murder of a man who has been paralysed and seemingly only able to communicate with his eyes for 15 years. After that, Dan commits suicide - or has he died of natural causes? Nick, puzzled by the relief of the victims family and strange tales from a frightened nursing staff, is drawn into the twilight world and study of astral travel and meets some incredible characters, one of whom has a huge impact on his lonely life. This novel could do with some editing - there are some rough spots - but in no way do they detract from the incredible plot and engaging characters. Fraser gives a breath-taking ending, making this a most satisfying read. So much so, that I finished Inner Space I and immediately dived into II which I have discovered is well up to this standard so will report back as soon as I have finished it!

Nick Burton is shocked. His friend and Mentor Dan Davies unexpectedly murdered an innocent man, laying paralyzed from the neck down in a hospital. Dan Davies even confesses the crime, signs the confession - the next day hes dead. Nick Burton does face not only tons of Police work, taking at least temporarily his bosses position, but also he wants to solve the mystery of Dan Davies unexplainable murder - and his death. On his way to solve a mystery, there is more mystery coming his way - not only in form of a nutty professor but also in form of beautiful green eyed Dr. Jill Tendrall. Nick finds himself knotted into a plot of happenings, he has difficulties to believe, let alone control. But still theres hope - and support from a side he would never have expected... Merlin Fraser paints a picture of thriller and crime with simple and forceful words - without drifting into some fairy tale land he leads the reader into mystery of a very special kind, simple, clinical, even explainable - without the slightest disappointment to the reader. The entire context is staying nerve-wrecking from the first word to the last. And when you close the book, I promise, you wish to read more of Nick Burton!

This unique story gives us mystery and suspense with a paranormal edge - the psychological kind, rather than vampires and werewolves. Nick is a strong viewpoint character that easily captured my attention. I found both the characters and the plot well developed, with enough twists and surprises to keep me guessing throughout. At times the writing gets a little bogged down with details and character speeches, but overall this is a quick-paced, intriguing read. Im looking forward to reading book #2 in this series.

Inner Space - Book One by Merlin Fraser Another reviewer has done a suburb job summarizing the plot elements of this book so Ill just jump into the deep end of the review. This first book of this trilogy by Merlin Fraser is, in a word, fascinating. Combining elements of several genres, it makes for a captivating and perfectly paced read from beginning to end. Mr. Fraser has done a suburb job creating characters that are believable and richly detailed. It is easy to identify with all of them - good and bad and the supporting cast is treated with equal dignity and care. These are people with whom I connected immediately. Mr. Fraser is not afraid to let his characters show how human they are both in their flaws and in their strength. The story and the characters form a perfectly matched set. The scenes, settings, narrative, humor, passion and dialogue are all absolutely realistic. Finding a favorite part of the book or a favorite character was impossible for me - I loved them all. I honestly cant think of a thing I would change. No matter if your tastes run to mysteries, procedurals, paranormal action adventure novels, thrillers or romances or if you just enjoy a good story well told - this is the book for you. Mr. Fraser touches each of those genres with a deft hand. Inner Space Book One is a book I highly recommend. I cant wait to dig into Book Two in this series. Lets see if Merlin Fraser can deliver in Inner Space Book Two - The Reluctant Nemesis what he generously served in Book One.

Inner Space By Merlin Frasier Merlin Frasiers novel, Inner Space Book 1, is a crime story that spills over into the paranormal. Inspector Nick Burton is trying to find out why his friend and mentor has committed cold blooded murder. Especially since the man he killed was someone Nick had never heard of. It is even more puzzling when his friend is found dead in his cell. Nick is drawn into experiments by a professor who is trying to prove that the power of the mind can be used to move things. Another aspect of the professors work is out-of-body experiences. When Nick pays the professor a visit, he is enthralled by the professors green-eyed assistant. The more Nick learns, the less he knows. Frasiers novel is face paced and intriguing. He keeps the action coming, page after page, with a dramatic twist at the end.
