> 3 dayThis set is really impressive, but not perfect, I love the new S-foil mechanism because I hate to use rubber bands. I did make some minor and simple MODs to make the X-Wing more accurate to Luke Skywalkers RED 5 Starfighter from the movies. The images shows how I did it.

> 3 dayI never had a lego x-wing before because its price tags have always been intimidating (try $70). So when amazon offers a lego discount, which is rare, I couldn’t resist taking this chance. Owning and building this set as a 32-year old are very rewarding. The price is affordable, the build is challenging, and the gimmicks are cool. When it comes to wing-folding mechanics, unlike the last version of x-wing this one does not rely on rubber bands which wear and tear through time. It uses technical build which I find it more suitable and is a huge step up in this set. A lot of people complain about the proportions and shapes especially the rear engine, but I think that overall it’s still an x-wing. It’s sleek and it’s simplified in the right places. I think the designer had put in lot of thought with their design choices to make an x-wing and have it look fun as a lego set. The fact that they put in the effort to taper the nose of the ship is already impressive! My only gripe is that its shooting mechanic is dangerous. One small flick, the red blaster can shoot across the room. I had to stash those away before someone gets hurt. I really like this set overall and I think the designers of this ought to deserve more credit. Yes, the build is smaller and less complex compared to the last version, but I think there’s something elegant and smart about reducing the set down to its core without losing its fun factor as a lego set. And the fact that this set has got my attention shows that it is now more accessible to grownups, who wanted to own an xwing but at an affordable price. I hope they continue this trend, I’ll be reviewing its nemesis TIE fighter set which comes in at a good price too. Cheers!
