> 3 dayCurrently have a 2017 27 5K iMac and will be replacing it with an M2 Mac Mini or Pro when theyre released so I took advantage of Amazons Prime Day pricing and bought two of these LG 27UN850-W monitors. Since I dont have the Mini yet, I wanted to compare them to my iMac. I connected one at a time and ran screen tests to confirm no dead pixels, etc. Both look to be in perfect shape. My iMac recognized them immediately and they worked right out of the box using the cable included by LG. I only changed two settings, one was to uncheck the High Dynamic Range as it made the images too bright. The other was to scale the resolution which made everything on both monitors almost identical. After changing both settings and working with the LG monitor and my iMac side-by-side I have to say that I am *very* impressed. Of course the LG is 4K, not 5K like the iMac, but the difference is more than acceptable. My office has a window behind me and although I really like the iMacs glossy screen, the LGs mat screen helps with the reflections quite a bit. Im not a professional, but I do work a great deal with photos and videos as well as other graphics. When I move the images from my iMac to the LG and back I can see some differences but not enough to warrant spending $1500 on Apples stand-alone monitor. The LG monitor is simply an excellent value IMHO. Ive only been running the monitors for a few days, but I have to say that I am very impressed. Ive been using iMacs for about 20 years now and I wasnt looking forward to switching to a Mini (or Pro), but I believe these are the monitors that will ease the transition a great deal. Highly recommended so far. Ill be sure and report back if I come across any issues.

> 3 daybought to use with a MacBook Air M1 (2020), crystal clear screen right out of the box, 4K resolution with 60 Hz refresh rate while using the USB-C cable that was included in the box with the monitor (USB-C also charges the Mac while connected). Also includes an HDMI cable. not the cheapest option out there but it looks great and works flawlessly with the Mac Air M1. hopefully the build quality lasts, well see.

> 3 dayI use this monitor to edit in Lightroom and Final Cut and it is really good especially because I can connect my MacBook to it via thunderbolt. The only time I see issues is when im gaming! The the monitor sometimes glitches and its not very good with dark settings but other than that the colors are perfect if youre just editing or making content.

21-12-2024I converted from a PC desktop to a Mac Mini and paired it with this monitor. It was a worthy investment. I spent hours (probably too many) researching this set up. Do yourself a favor - just buy it. The only gripe I have is that some web designs and UI/UX code shows up a little grainy because its not set up to be displayed on a monitor with this many pixels. Haha. Ill take that trade off. Ive got it mounted on my desktop right now, but in a few days Ive got a monitor arm coming which Ill set up. Thatll be about it for my monitor set up. Ill probably end up buying another tbh.

> 3 dayGreat color and clarity. Connects quickly and easily with my M1 Max Macbook Pro. I knocked off one star because the included USB C cable is pretty short and the monitor doesnt work with anything but the included cables. I tried 2 different USB C cables from Apple and a generic one and neither worked. I called LG and they said they dont make a longer one and that is the only one that works with the monitor. I use 2 of these monitors with my laptop so a longer cable would make it much more convenient to connect the one thats furthest away from the computer.

> 3 dayThis is used with a Mac Studio. It is incredible quality and worked out of the box with no issues. 100% worth the price.

> 3 dayThe picture quality is excellent. However, I tried to daisychain this to another monitor and couldnt get it to work. I wish LG had better instructions regarding this. In general, the menu buttons and design could use improvement. Over all, Im sort of happy with it.

Greater than one weekWe have an office full of LG 32UN880-B monitors, which were out of stock, so we ordered this one for about the same price. Side by side, this monitor has terrible viewing angles and is far more washed out than our other LG displays. Very disappointed in the quality of this monitor vs other LG HDR monitors.

> 3 dayWorks really good using USB-C direct from MacBook Air. Screen quality looks almost as good as my iMac Retina 5K. The size of macOS menu items at top and and dock icons on bottom and screen work-area area -- all were as expected and as appear on my iMAC. On HP monitor I bought first and am not returning all these were totally distorted. I read this monitor works well with MACs and it sure does. Monitor controls work via little joystick which is really slick. Screen hight and tilt operate very nicely also. Good quality USB-C cable included. Super beefy AC adaptor also which I guess is good? Excellent for MACs!

> 3 dayUPDATE 11/2022: As long as you take care not to jostle the cord once inserted in the back of the monitor, it works pretty consistently. After plugging the USB-C into the Mac, its important to wait to hear the connected sound, look for the battery icon to show the charging lightning bolt, and only then close the laptop to put it in clamshell mode. If you dont see the charging lightning bolt, the monitor screen will go dark when you close the laptop. __________________________ I purchased this monitor to work with my M1 Macbook in clamshell mode, and that requires the laptop to be powered. The monitor connection is supposed to power the Mac. To be clear: if the MacBook isn’t receiving power when closed, the monitor goes dark. As numerous other reviews have noted, theres something defective about the hub input for USB-C. It works about 50% of the time, no rhyme or reason. Youll hear the connecting tone, then it disconnects, then it connects, then disconnects. From reading other reviews, its no use getting the monitor replaced, because the replacement will have the same problem. I was out of the return period when I realized this was happening. Lesson learned: when you get electronics, use the f&*% out of them right up front, to make sure theyre going to work in the long run. Other downsides: (1) it’s so bright I can only use it at the very lowest brightness level (and I use Flux to dim the screen in lower light); (2) you must manually adjust all settings using a button under the screen. For instance, the brightness buttons on your Mac will not function.
