> 3 dayI have four 4K monitors: LG 27UN850-W X2, one desk dual monitor setup (will be referred below as LG) Dell U2720Q X2, one desk dual monitor setup (will be referred below as Dell) I use LG, my spouse uses Dell. In my mind LG is better to fit my needs. From my spouses point of view, Dell is preferred over LG. 1. Why does LG better fit my needs? a) both LG and Dell have anti-glare screens. But I found Dell reflects a little bit more than LG. I have a “designer white” desk. Dell’s reflection is noticeable especially during the evening when using the desk lamp and watching videos. On the other hand, LG does not distract my attention due to glare. The Dell glare issue could be a combination of my desk color and light source setup. But given the exact same setup, LG does not distract my attention due to reflection. b) LG has ports arrangement on the back, rather than at the bottom. I’d like to try different gadgets during the past weeks. The LG’s design makes it super convenient to plug/unplug cables, firetv stickers. Dell’s traditional port design also works well thanks to the best ergonomics stands (will come to it later). Adding devices/cable to Dell just by simply rotating the screen. c) LG has a user-friendly screen control joystick. Dell’s traditional button is not comparable. Again, because I’d like to change settings, and try different gadgets. 2. Why does Dell better fit my spouses needs? Ergonomics, ergonomics, ergonomics! My spouse needs ergonomic monitor stands. Dell’s design fits the bill perfectly. A complete freedom of adjustment with extremely wide ranges, at any direction. 3. What do the two monitors share in common? They are all very good monitors for regular day to day work/entertainment. Again we are not professional graphic designers nor video editors. For average users like us, you cannot go wrong with either LG/Dell. For most of the time, all our monitors work in reader/office/text mode. When it comes to entertainment, LG/Dell, for me, do not make much difference. I cannot tell the difference when watching videos or playing games, or editing family photos. They look pretty much the same for casual entertainment. I also placed the LG/Dell side by side, playing the same youtube 4K HDR videos with all monitors in full HDR settings, but I cannot tell which is better. They all calibrated to their own standards. In their own “reference frame”, they all look very beautiful. Btw, isn’t the best entertainment to find a job to do what you like? The office/text mode might be the best entertainment mode for me :-) Finally, because this is my serious review under this LG product tag. I will add 3 more points for LG only: 1. LG has a bulky voltage transformer shown in the picture. The power cable on each side of the voltage transformer is about 55 inch (total about 110 inch including the transformer in the middle), long enough for any home office setup. However, for a standing desk, I have to spend a bit extra effort to hide the bulky transformer in the cable management tray. 2. One of the LG monitors has a very tiny issue with the stand. I returned it and bought a new one. The problem went away. 3. LG has a builtin speaker that can be easily used with fireTV stick 4K, just plug and play. If I want to control volume, I’m using the LG monitor joystick, or a separate speaker or a bluetooth (Jabra evolve 75), where output device with builtin volume controls. The joystick also makes the hdmi input switch very easy, fireTV to Nvidia Quadro, very smooth joystick operation. But better to get a 4K HDMI switch.

> 3 dayI bought this as a used-like new monitor for $380. It was in fine condition but had over 230hrs of total power on time and was missing a few cables and pieces. Amazon customer support helped replace what I needed. Buyer beware... Picture quality is good, not great. With a plain black screen up you can see uneven backlighting in the corners. Also, its a matte screen, so everything is a little fuzzy and the blacks are not as deep as a glossy screen, but some people might prefer it (I guess I missed the memo that glossy screens are no longer in vogue). Brightness is a pain to change! It takes 5 clicks on the LG joystick to navigate to the brightness setting and change it 1%. I think thats probably too fine of an adjustment. Maybe take a page from Apple and have brightness go from 0 to 16 instead of 0 to 100. Im using this with a 2017 macbook pro via HDMI.

> 3 dayThis is a great looking display with fantastic color accuracy. It looks nice side by side with apple displays. The built in speakers are acctually pretty usable (laptop quality sound). The included stand is excellent quality. The Included USB C cable did not work with my m1 Mac. I Solved this by purchasing, a certified thunderbolt4 cable. This display seems to require a proper thunderbolt cable to work with m1 Macs. A usb c cable wont work. I am using in a dual monitor configuration with the secondary display from another brand connected via HDMI. Sometimes the LG display doesnt wake up. I deal with it by hitting esc key, to put the machine back to sleep and wake it up again. Id probably blame apple for the thunderbolt issues, so I am going to stick with 5 stars. This is a nice entry to a pro quality 4k display at the price point.

> 3 dayI converted from a PC desktop to a Mac Mini and paired it with this monitor. It was a worthy investment. I spent hours (probably too many) researching this set up. Do yourself a favor - just buy it. The only gripe I have is that some web designs and UI/UX code shows up a little grainy because its not set up to be displayed on a monitor with this many pixels. Haha. Ill take that trade off. Ive got it mounted on my desktop right now, but in a few days Ive got a monitor arm coming which Ill set up. Thatll be about it for my monitor set up. Ill probably end up buying another tbh.

Greater than one weekI bought two of these monitors: 1. The first one is to connect to a Chromebook for distance learning (via USB-C) and a Kano (via HDMI) for tinkering with code projects. The monitor works great and charges the Chromebook over the USB-C connection. The audio is adequate and is substantially better than the audio in the Chromebook. 2. The second one is to connect a MacBook Pro (via DisplayPort 1.2) for office productivity and watching 4K HDR content and a Dell Optiplex (via HDMI) for office productivity, gaming, and watching 4K HDR content. These monitors perform flawlessly in my two environments! I enjoy the flexibility of having USB-C, DisplayPort, and two HDMI ports to choose from for my inputs. Having these monitors with the built-in adjustable stands allows us to position everything ergonomically to prevent neck and eye strain. Ill update this review in the future after weve used these monitors for a few more months.

> 3 dayThis is a beautiful display at a decent price. Not great, not terrible. It matches my 27 iMac quite well in terms of color and brightness. Its not perfect, but its close. The antiglare surface is also nice for smoothing out bright spots behind you. There are myriad ways to connect to the monitor from your computer, I used the display port and it works well. It connects easily enough to my desks VESA display mount, but I wish there was some way to adjust the vertical alignment. I believe that part is more something I will need to do with the hardware I have. My biggest problem with this monitor is the lack of direct physical controls on the device. Everything is done through the on screen menu. And, as of the time of this review, there is no software for Mac to control the brightness of the monitor. So you only have the little nub in back, behind the LG logo to access all the settings (see photo). There is no automatic brightness adjustment so that when ambient light changes, the monitor changes the brightness of the screen. It takes 4 button actions just to get to the brightness setting. Once you are in the Brightness setting, there are 100 steps between the highest and lowest settings, which is overkill. 12-20 steps is plenty. My old display from ASUS had two buttons on the bottom of the monitor to control the brightness directly. It has a super thin bezel around the top and sides; about 0.25. The bottom is about 0.75. As a secondary 4K display this is a nice choice, just be aware of the little things that can make your experience less enjoyable.

> 3 dayPurchased after reading a multitude of reviews for this model and the prior year versions of the same monitor. Went with this newest version. Out of the box connected to a 2020 13” MacBook Pro via the pass through USB-C. One cord- that’s it. I run the Mac on a vertical stand cover closed only using the new monitor as my primary display. No issues with the Mac running with the lid closed at all. Mac immediately charged fast over the included USB-C cord which was a big selling point for me- video and pass-through charging on the included cord. Out of the box the only settings I changed were to increase the brightness to full, increase the sharpness to full, enable the “Super Resolution”, and dial back the audio volume to 20. Unlike a lot of reviews, I found the adjustment joystick easy to use and intuitive. Took all of 5 minutes to adjust the settings, adjusted nothing on the Mac at all. Colors just plain pop. Graphics are crystal clear, tack sharp, and amazing. I agree with other reviews I dislike there is no audio control from the Mac keyboard like I’m used to, but it’s easy to get to from the joystick on the bottom of the monitor to adjust if needed. Audio sounds quite good for a monitor, can’t complain much about the quality. Music sounded just fine. I purchased to use for photo editing, not video, so audio is secondary to me anyway. Very large power brick, plastic construction minus the stand- which is sturdier than it appears. Tilt adjustment, height adjustment, very nice! Virtually no bezel- awesome. Very happy- great pairing to the MacBook. My previous computer was a 2011 27” iMac, and this screen blows that screen away- obviously technology has improved. Would purchase again for sure.

> 3 dayIve had this monitor maybe two months and am experiencing some issues already. I did a lot of research before choosing this one as I really wanted good screen real estate for my Macbook Pro; excellent picture quality; a monitor that would support charging my laptop while connected. Heres how that worked out: 1. Picture quality is good, a bit bright but good. 2. The charging only works on occasion. Sometimes the monitor charges the laptop, sometimes it doesnt. This is really frustrating to me as my office is tiny and I dont want additional cables. It also connects, for the most part, but I will get the occasional black screen that doesnt detect the laptop. I have to then open the laptop and make sure the monitor realizes its on and close it again. Its annoying at best. 3. I cant control the sound from my laptop. This is wildly annoying. Not sure if Ill return this or if theres better out there, but for the price I paid I would expect it to work a lot more consistently.

> 3 dayI purchased this monitor to get more screen real estate for working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its great to be able to have a Zoom or Teams meeting going, have a document or browser window open, and to be able to keep an eye on my email without having to constantly minimize or move windows around. The image quality is excellent - very sharp and clear with natural looking color. Contrast is also very good, although black levels are not as good as on a higher end modern television or mobile device with an OLED panel. But, you really only notice at night in a darker room. The matte screen also lets me have my home office setup in front of a set of windows without fighting glare. Onscreen text looks great, and the night mode preset that lowers brightness levels and shifts whites to a warmer hue is also nice when working late. Video looks very good, although I havent been able to get Netflix and Amazon to stream to the monitor in 4K. Im using the latest and greatest version of usb-c to connect to a late-model HP laptop. If anyone has troubleshooting tips, let me know. But, non-protected 4k content from sites like YouTube looks great. This monitor doesnt have a high refresh rate by 2020 standards, though, so gamers and people watching live sports might be happier looking elsewhere. The 2-way adjustability of this monitor makes it really comfortable to use for long workdays. The stand is also surprisingly solid and more premium than it looks in the photos. I assumed it would be plastic, but its metal. So, I have no worries about accidentally tipping the monitor off my desk when adjusting the screen. It is also ingeniously simple to assemble without tools or messing with a bunch of little screws. Overall, this is an almost ideal monitor for working from home, and LG seems to have prioritized productivity over entertainment in its design choices, which is great for me. It has a modern, minimalist design compared to a lot of other options with overwrought styling intended to appeal to gamers, which is nice since my office is also our family room. And, IMHO, matte screens are MUCH more pleasant for reading and writing than glossy models. Highly recommended.
