Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4, Premium CPU Cooler for AMD AM4 (Brown)

I purchased this particular cooler to install on a new build with a Ryzen 2700X CPU and X370 Motherboard. (Apologies for the bad quality photo). I already knew that I was not going to use the standard Wraith cooler that comes with the CPU, even though that is a decent cooler.

Lo uso come sistema di dissipazione su un Ryzen 1700. Ho montato una seconda ventola, identica a quella data in dotazione. Oggettivamente, un signor dissipatore. 40-42 gradi circa overclockato a 3.7GHz (su tutti i core) è un risultato disarmante, e in generale è molto silenzioso, quasi inudibile in idle. Il sistema di montaggio, poi, mi ha stupito: per amici e me stesso mi sono sempre trovato a montare Cooler Master o robaccia (per non parlare di roba stock), ma questo Noctua potrebbe essere montato anche da un non esperto ai lavori.

I originally bought a 212 LED turbo as i was happy with the Cooler Masters in the past. However, I was doing an AM4 build and that cooler only dissipates the air vertically, towards top of the case. Ultimately the orientation meant it did not fit over my memory cards with the heat spreaders. I bought this cooler with an additional fan and was amazed by the quietness. I mean whisper quiet. It fit as it includes a bracket solution to fit in any orientation.

To start with Id like to point out that unlike some reviews here I did receive the Am4 specific version, the real deal is very clear to identify so Im pleased to receive the correct item.

Very nicely packaged, and was a breeze to install. Keeps my 2600X nice and cool at 30c idle and topped out at 72c after an hour of stress testing.

I bought this cooler to replace the stock cooler on my AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. Im not a gamer so the computer is primarily for business software. I built the computer a few months back and it was very noisy. So I decided to replace the two noisiest components, the power supply and the cooler. First I replaced the power supply since that was the louder of the two. I went for “Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 750W 80+ Gold SLI/Crossfire Ready Ultra Quiet 140mm Hydraulic Bearing Smart Zero Fan Full Modular Power Supply 10 Year Warranty PS-TPD-0750FNFAGU-1 “ This is a fantastic PS, absolutely quiet..5 dB till about 60% (i.e. 450 Watts of quiet power). After replacing the PS, the stock cooler noise became even more irritating. I researched a few different coolers, most of which were in $40-50 range but had a little more noise levels. Since I wanted a very quiet one, I decided to go for Noctau brand based on reviews I had read an a few different websites. I selected Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 primarily because it is meant for AM4 processors.. This is a BIG cooler, so I looked up for compatibility with my hardware. Even though my motherboard (Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite) did not show up on the list, I measured the space required for the cooler and found it could easily fit.
