When painting, I like to use alternatives to paint brushes for experimentation. Previously, I had been using the flat surface on the backside of paint tubes. I saw a YouTube video where an artist was using one of these wedges, so I decided to give it a shot. It allows you make some interesting gestures that smoothly move the paint. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something different for painting (particularly abstracts!).

Its an efficient way to undercoat my canvas, and allowed me to make wide sharp turns on the canvas when Im doing abstracts.

This is without a doubt the best artistic tool youll own besides your hands. I LOVE my Catalyst Wedge. I have the smooth edge #6. It does just about everything! My only critique is that it doesnt come in two more sizes (medium and large). I would own them if they did. (Hint, hint!) It fits in your hand so comfortably you find yourself using it all the time. Using it reminds me of the first time I was given paints and was told to use my fingers - only now my nails are subjected to much less abuse. It gives you the same level of control or freedom (whichever you prefer) you have if your own hand was moving the medium - only better because of the different choices of edges. It is so much fun to use! Because it is silicone, clean-up is easy and its okay if it sits in water - unlike your palette knives and brushes. I havent decided which one to try next - probably #4 because of the graduated lines - regardless, I am looking forward to adding others to my painting toolkit. Cant wait to see what other great tools this company comes up with!
