Never installed a SSD before but I followed the video Sony published and it was simple! Took about 30 minutes. I’ve decided to put all ps4 games on the ssd because it’s not clear to me if this ssd is better than the one that comes with the ps5? At any rate, 200 is pricey for 1T but it’s worth it I thought.

The Firecuda is a good hard drive all around. I have a Dell XPS 89830, and I had to replace the original HD because the factory install put a large angle head SATA cable on the HD. I clean the dust out of my PCs twice a year. Opening the PC eventually weakened the SATA cable and it broke. The power supply swing out mechanizm has a bar that was hitting the SATA angle head cable connector a bit too much. I put a stratight SATA cable on the SATA port on the original HD. I tested the port by wiggling the cable and the HD port broke off. I glued gunned the thing together to get buy until the Firecuda arived. The original HD is a standard Seagate HD. The Dell XPS 8930 is a bit slow without the Optane module enabled OEM Seagate Hd. With the Seagate Firecuda, it boots fairly fast without Optane enabled. There is a big difference. With Optand enabled, Firecuda, it is faster yet.

Bought when on sale for my PS5 digital. Simple to install works a treat. Settings set so that PS5 games auto install to built in hard drive and PS4 games auto install to this drive.

So this thing does not appear in my bios, on top of that, my PC doesnt recognize it unless I have it plugged in from the start, but it never gets past the logo screen if it is, and I believe the issue is with it trying to boot out of the hdd instead of my ssd which houses my OS, but the hdd has nothing on it so if its plugged in when I boot the PC up I get locked in the manufacturer logo screen and cant even access bios in the first place. So I hooked it up while I was in the bios screen, doesnt appear in any form, go to restart, and it sticks in the logo screen, frozen, cant do anything. Ive tested the cable, tried all six SATA jacks, swapped the cable, tried different power cable ends, plugged it in while the PC is off completely, while its in bios, while its booted fully, no luck. The drive is definitely spinning up, everything is connected, it doesnt show up in partition manager if I hook up the SATA while booted. Trying an internal to external conversion when that shows up, turning my $130 hard drive into a $150 hard drive, being that my other option would be to get an OS on it, hook it up, swap it to storage, then switch back to booting out of my ssd, and thats waaaay too much headache for a hard drive, laughably bad out of the box. One would figure when you install a hard drive, its just a matter of hooking it up and partitioning it, but apparently not for this one, and judging by some of the other low rated reviews, this is a pretty common problem with these drives, so buyer beware.

You can pretty much get any SSD that will fit and work. This one is fast and large enough for the price. I cannot speak to the long term reliability of this discount drive. If I can then Ill update the post in a year or so.
