We built a patio in our back yard and needed a smart plug for the lights. I purchased this smart plug and has been pleased with it. The set up was straight forward and hassle free. It took me about 5 minutes to download the app and set up everything. The plug has been working so well for several weeks. I’d recommend this smart plug.

These little sockets are true gems! They are high quality material and construction, so you can feel comfortable that you have a solid product… always a good thing, when dealing with electrical, let alone electronics! They are as easy to use as they look… plug them in, turn them on and set them up. The Tenda Beli app is readily available. Download and follow setup. Super easy! The sockets are sensitive, so they work readily and easily after pairing. They are easy enough top use, I think, even for the non-tech savvy.

You set them up, which is frustrating. Then you get them to work and a couple of weeks later they seem to forget. So you set them up again and theres nothing you can do to get them to work. Server unresponsive...what?

You have to download the Tenda app. Theres no getting around that. Once the plug is synced and you have the steady blue light, you can take the plug, put it in whatever outlet you want...like its ready to go. I wanted the plug to control a floor lamp, and for Alexa to control IT. I needed to download the Alexa app too, which Id had previously, but disabled because it conflicted with my car Bluetooth and gym app. So I re-downloaded the Alexa app, and followed the Alexa app instructions to tell it to communicate with the Tenda app/plug. Once the two apps were communicating, I told Alexa to make a command to run BOTH smart plugs and floor lamps: Alexa, turn on the lights. (Id already had a smart plug/lamp setup from before, so I was basically adding a second plug/lamp setup.) So now when I say, Alexa, turn on the lights, she turns on both smart plugs which turns on both lights. When I got that working, I just went ahead and uninstalled the Tenda app and Alexa app again. Retested the lamp command (for both on and off) and bingo, both lamps come on and off with no issues. So its proof that you DONT need the Tenda or Alexa app once youve got your plugs synced. Id be sitting in the dark if this wasnt true!

These are very well made switches. The size is good – they do not block the adjacent outlet, and the manual switch on the side is easily accessible. I am relatively new to Wi-Fi based smart switches, and they all seem to have some quirks, but if you are persistent, they will work just fine. Configuring them requires installation of the Tenda Beli app on your smart phone. Keep in mind that the way these switches work is that they have their own little Wi-Fi “hotspot”. The app will have you sign on to a Wi-Fi network, then connect to the switch hotspot, and finally connect the switch to the Wi-Fi network you first accessed. Understanding that is helpful if you’re watching your phone disconnect from and reconnect to Wi-Fi inexplicably. You also need your phone to be pretty close to the switch for configuration as the hotspot range is pretty weak. For one of the switches I had to manually connect to the switch Wi-Fi hotspot but once I figured everything out it went well. One downside is that there appear to be many different apps controlling these switches. For example, I now have the Bali app for these switches, the Meross app for my garage door opener, and the Smart Life app for two different brands of outdoor switches. While these apps integrate with other apps and services, keep in mind that you are going to be juggling a bunch of apps to get things working and you are unlikely to integrate much. With a Smart Things hub, for example, you have a single place to go for programming, troubleshooting, or integration. With these Wi-Fi based apps, you are on your own. That being said, integration with the Alexa app was simple and worked well. If you are looking for a simple way to say “Alexa, turn on the bedroom lamp”, this is the ticket. If you want to control various elements of your home from the same app, you may want a hub based Z Wave or ZigBee solution. But for a simple way to get into the world of voice commands and home automation, these Tenda switches are an excellent starting point.

Good product, good price. It makes me feel safer because I can turn my lights on and off when I’m away from home. This was my first smart plug and I’ll probably order more of these.

Instructions are not my favorite but they’re sufficient to get your plugs set up. Getting this set up and connected was pretty easy. They’ve also maintained connectivity and I was able to add them to my Alexa skills and devices with ease. They also haven’t disconnected and I can control them with my echo dot without any issues. What more can I ask for?!

I think the picture explains it way better than any words I could use.

Product won’t merge with Alexa so if that’s why you want them then buy something else. The app works and i can control lights that way but not what i intended
