I took a chance on this backpack as $99 is a lot to spend on one but I’m quite pleased so far with it. Being from the PNW, it can be wet a good portion of the year and for those of us who take public transportation, we need to make sure our contents are protected within our bags. 26L for a day to day pack is plenty for me and I found that it had more than enough space to keep everything I needed. The laptop compartment is well padded and I didn’t need my sleeve at all and the main compartment had space for any books, other electronics, snacks, misc. items, etc. The front pocket was a bit disappointing, it had space but only being able to access it from a small top zipper was an issue. I prefer to have a front pocket that unzips at least half way down the sides for easier access. Fit wise, it worked well on my petite frame (I’m 5’4”) and was comfortable to wear during the day. I like the bag a lot but I couldn’t honestly justify the price tag on this as there are other bags that are much cheaper which do just as good of a job.

Ive been using this as my primary backpack for the past two weeks, and Im very pleased with it. Its comfortable, it fits all my stuff, yet its slim and not too big. It will comfortably hold my 15.6-inch laptop, yet its slim, it doesnt stick out far from my back. This is good for me, but your mileage may vary here, the compartments wont expand enough to hold bulky objects, e.g. a bicycle helmet. I have lots of little things, so many pockets inside the compartments are a must. Across the four compartments of this backpack, I count eleven internal pockets, plus two spots for pens. In addition, there are two exterior pockets for water bottles or similar. I dont think the product images do a good job of capturing them all, so Ive included my own photos below to give you another angle. Unfortunately, only one of these internal pockets is zippered. I wish there were more, for things like USB flash drives or coins that tend to get lost in the bottom of the bag. One thing I should point out. The product images mention a water repellent zipper without giving any details. Only the laptop compartment at the rear of the backpack has a water repellent zipper, all the other compartments have regular zippers. That said, the frontmost compartment should be more water resistant than the others with regular zippers, because the zipper is hidden behind the fabric that makes up the compartment.

Love it. Took to Puerto Rico, through the rainforest, use for work daily, no complaints!

The backpack is nice for sure. But I got the Lenovo gaming laptop bag because it was more comfortable on my shoulders and it felt lighter. But this is still a good backpack.

I like the materials alot, it feels very premium. I got this for my work laptop and work trips. Hopefully it holds up! Seems like it will. If it doesnt, it was still such a good price. I also really like the organization pockets.

Love everything about this pack, accept the fact that the black outside shell (the area where it says Tomtoc, ironically enough) was stained by light rain. It looked fresh and new until it met some very light rain outside for the first time. The water that accumulated just stayed as a stain. Very unusual that the area where this companies name sits, looks like black and grey camouflage. Would be happy to post a pic if Amazon allows me to.

This Tomtoc 15.6 Inch Professional Business Laptop Backpack is made of military-grade CORDURA ballistic nylon built with a waterproof YKK zipper on the laptop compartment. Tomtoc didnt skim on adding organizational options. There are three separate compartments with 15 pockets built in to help tame devices and cables. What I liked most about this backpack was that Tomtoc hit the sweet spot on just about everything with this backpack. For example, it looks great and is well made but it doesnt scream that there are thousands of dollars of tech hiding within. Its also large and well organized but its sized just big enough to carry your essentials without allowing you to carry so much that youre weighed down. Speaking of weight, the weight distribution of this bag is better than any other I have used. I have several unevenly sized items stored within this backpack and it stands upright on its and even did so when I laid it on the side with an umbrella within the side pocket. Naturally, when the pack is on your back it feels lighter than the sum of its parts thanks to this excellent weight distribution. Finally, I have to highlight this backpacks dedicated laptop compartment. This is where Tomtoc spared no expense. This compartment is secured via a waterproof lining that surrounds around the YKK zippers. The inside of this compartment is covered with a thickly padded and very plush material that I full confidence will not scratch my device. In fact, I would dare say this laptop compartment is the best I have ever seen on any backpack and I have several, including some that are priced well above this one. What I liked least about this Tomtoc backpack was that they skimped on a couple of areas on the exterior of the bag. For example, the straps are missing pockets and eyeglass straps. Most backpacks in this price range, and some that are even cheaper, include pockets or slots for quick access to earbuds, ID or metro passes. They also conveniently have straps other fasteners to secure shades and glasses. A curious decision from Tomtoc to omit these features. Tomtoc also failed to add a secure pocket on the back of the pack as many other manufacturers do for backpacks that eclipse 100 dollars. When traveling its awesome to be able to pull off your backpack, unzip the hidden pocket and grab a passport/boarding pass. That convenience too is missing from this backpack. The question I kept asking myself when using this Tomtoc Backpack is if I had to pay full retail price for this backpack would I buy it? The short answer is I would. The laptop compartment alone almost makes this backpack smart investment. Beyond that, it has a 26L capacity, tons of organization and its all wrapped inside a military-grade Cordura shell. Other bags do make me wish I had quick access to my student ID or tap card when I take this one with me on my commute. I also find myself missing the hidden pocket at times but these minor inconveniences do not lessen the level of protection and general usefulness of this bag. For transporting tech, I dont think I have used a better bag than this one as it has supplanted my previous favorite, the Korin Clickpack.

    Greater than one week

TLDR: This is a very good, well-made - and good looking - pack, with lots of compartments for different items, good water resistance, good padding around the laptop, and still in a rather small & light package. Would make a very good business / travel pack but for school or regular use need to really consider how youll load it. The good: Cordura ballistic nylon, taped seams, and a repellent front section mean this bag will give you no worries in light rain. All construction is tight and high quality -- no concerns there with one possible exception for the top handle (see below). There are four (yes 4) compartments. All are full length (which is a bit of a shame, see below) so you have lots of options for separately packing flattish stuff of various types. I like this for a travel bag laid out as follows: Front compartment - travel stuff (book/kindle, snacks, headphones, etc), 2nd compartment - spare clothes packed flat with a 1/2 length pouch (in the top section) for toiletries and the like, 3rd compartment - business folders/papers and a couple of 1/2 length pockets (bottom section) for chargers, cables, batteries, etc. and finally the back (4th) compartment holds the laptop. On the outside are two thin, water bottle pockets. All that and I didnt even mention a couple of extra organizational dividers in various places. So yea, if youre a flat packer, this bag has lots of options and it works very well. Recommended. The not so good: That top handle: They went with a plastic band -- god knows why? Perhaps they thought it looked sleeker or something? The band is not comfortable when the bag is fully loaded and Im worried how well the plastic will hold up under heavy use. But few carry a pack by the top handle much so this is probably a minor concern for most people. All those compartments are full length. This feeds the universal problem with most all backpacks: Everything falls to the bottom. So unless youre putting in things that are long & flat, youre not going to get full use out of the compartments because the contents will just fall toward the bottom and stack making for a very awkward load. They put in a couple sets of 1/2 pockets but only 1 is at the top to help alleviate this problem. Its a real shame as they missed an opportunity here. Most bag designers dont want to build in this much structure because it makes the empty bag heavy and thick before you even start using it. But Tomtoc has done a really great job (truly one of the best Ive seen) of building in multiple compartments without the bag feeling overdone. But they should have staggered one of the pockets to make it a half length from the top. This allows you to load items at the top of the bag and get better load distribution. Dont get me wrong: Its a very nice bag and very useful. I like it a lot. If you are usually packing things youre not worried about falling to the bottom (books, folders, tablet), youll probably really like this bag. Definitely recommended in that case. But I cant give it a full recommendation because most people do have this problem and, at least for me, the multiple pockets kind of make it worse. Ive rated the bag 5 stars because if it fits you, I expect youll like it a lot. And the price is definitely right for this level of construction. But make sure you like the layout (its tough to photograph but hopefully the pictures give you a good idea) or you wont rate it 5 stars. Other nits: A couple of the zippers go down into the water bottle pocket area making them difficult to work when the bag is loaded and bottles are in the pockets. The straps are a little plain and padding is average. I assume this was to keep the sleek look so if you like that, you wont have any issue with the straps.
