Amazon Kindle US (Type A, United States) Power Adapter [Fits Kindle and Kindle DX]

As a former battery engineer, I can tell you this product has a design flaw. The insulation being used is some type of plastic that becomes brittle and crumbly over time. The PROPER insulation that should have been used is SILICONE. Amazon, you probably farmed this out to some offshore supplier who gave you a very cheap price. Unfortunately you got a lousy product. Do the right thing and offer an exchange for a newly designed cable with high quality silicone insulation. Otherwise I would expect some law firm to start a class-action lawsuit.

What a terrible product!! Ive never seen anything like this before. I have two cables. Both I bought at the same time Ive purchased my Kindle, March 22nd 2009. Today, after a month that I didnt use my Kindle, I reached the cable to charge it and its cover was falling apart, all cracked up.. Then I look after my other cable that I have in my backpack and it had the same issue. It seems like a lot of people are having the same problem. Amazon should send a new cable to everyone. This is a little late (got my Kindle a year ago for my birthday), but I just came across this e-mail when checking other orders. I purchased this replacement because I thought I had lost my original (I found it later). I am very glad I purchased a spare. Both work perfectly, I carry one (along with my Kindle, of course) everywhere I go. I have had no trouble with them. They both perform exactly as described in your product information. Its great having one at my reading chair and one in my pocket.

Theres no good reason why such adapters are proprietary. They should be universal. What a waste of money (mine), energy (for shipping the product), and resources (the material to make precisely this unique thing). I shudder to think about the cost to our planet in terms of waste. Come up with a universal adapter, share the specs openly, let the market compete, and put this kind of thing in my pocket for $1 or less. And let me own one or a small number for all the devices my busy family uses.

I was shipped the wrong item. Not at all whats pictured AND it doesnt have a cord. I have to pay to ship it back? Hows that fair? What a rip off!!

Good price, item as described, delivery great and on time. Device works as it should. Have 30+ years of PC Hardware/Software experience. RECOMMENCED...

The only way this would charge is if I hold it pushed in - poor electrical connection. This was a replacement for original cord which crumbled. Dont buy used!!

Was dissappointed that it had to come from China, but it works just fine. Got it faster from China than I would have the USA.

Had to replace my wifes power adapter, after traveling, because some idiot made it in 2 parts. Only way to replace was to buy both parts. Not a very happy camper because of this design flaw!!!!! My wife likes the kindle, but feels we got ripped off with the design of the power adapter.
