Greater than one weekIve been on AM4 (B550) for awhile now, Ive had a 3700x, 5800x, and now this guy. This CPU is plenty for gaming, photo and video editing, etc. Couldnt be happier with my purchase (roughly 6 months of ownership now), especially since I got it on sale!

> 3 dayOriginally had a 3700x (which I thought was the best overall CPU from the 3000 series due to its 65w performance) and upgraded to a 5800x... instant regret. For starters, the thermals were completely out of hand... temps easily topping 80*c when running standard benchmarks (Cinebench for example)... even when tuning with curve optimizer - which is finicky at best in my opinion as well from a stability standpoint. Yes - I understand its TDP is 105w compared to 65w of the 3700x, but still... it was HOT. Didnt feel like much of an upgrade from a performance standpoint either... lesson learned - 3700x to 5800x (both 8 core) not at all worth the upgrade. I returned it to the local store I bought it at, and told myself if I could snag a 5900x, I would. Got lucky here on Amazon one morning and scored one for MSRP ships & sold by Amazon (wont pay third-party scalper prices). Upon installing, I ran the usual suite of tests to see how it was... my initial reaction was one of absolute surprise - honestly I thought I may have done something wrong. When I fired up Cinebench, the max temp was 62*c. Huh??? Four more cores, same 105w TDP, yet TWENTY DEGREES cooler??? I checked all the BIOS settings (which Id left stock, other than setting my memory profile). Everything was fine. I ran other tests, and it was confirmed across the board... This processor runs extremely efficiently from a thermal standpoint. Obviously the performance increase is something else as well... even with my x470 motherboard, I am seeing incredible performance uplifts compared to the 3700x it replaced.

> 3 dayThe stability, efficiency, and sheer power of this chip and the Zen 3 architecture is really something. This chip does great on gaming, as well as mining and other heavy workloads. I’m not a pro at overclocking, so I mostly just run it at stock clock settings. Can’t stomach paying over $700 for the 16-core so this is what I went with, and I have to say I’m very pleased with it. I do also have a 5800x, and several variants of the 6-core Zen 3 chips with and without an iGPU, and to be honest, for what I do I think they are all about even on the gaming performance. Good chip tho
