Used this to upgrade my old iMac and so far so good. A good performance boost from the old HDD.

Ive purchased these drives twice, one 512 GB and one 2 TB drive. The 512 GB drive failed within one year. When it failed, all reads and writes to it were incredibly slow, and any system that tried to boot off of it would crash, though I was still able to recover data from it. I called in the warranty on that drive, and both its replacement and the 2 TB drive exhibited the same issue where it *looked* like it was working, but its read / write performance was incredibly inconsistent. The systems booting off of those drives would occasionally freeze for seemingly no reason and at random times. I couldnt figure out what was going on until I did a benchmark of the drives and saw how bad the read speeds were. In particular, I noticed that sometimes the read speeds went crashing down to ZERO. That certainly explains why my systems were locking up. I used a free app called HD Tune to do the benchmarking. Ive attached a few of the graphs it produces as it runs to this review to illustrate what a failing drive looks like. If you buy one of these drives and see something similar to what Ive shared, then definitely RMA those drives ASAP because they will cause your system to freeze or crash. I called in the warranty on both the replacement 512 MB and 2 TB drives (for a total of three RMAs), and the replacements do seem to work correctly. So luckily not all of these SSDs have that issue. But its worth noting that three out of the five of these drives Ive had were faulty, and it still remains to be seen how long these two new replacement drives will last.

I had this drive installed in a Windows 10 computer for a few months until one morning the computer no longer recognized the boot device. Tried Linux, DiskGenius, and another Windows system, but none would recognize the drive. It was a paperweight that weighed nothing. I went to the Silicon Power website to get an RMA number to return the drive (theres a 5-year warranty on it!), and on the RMA page were instructions to ship the drive back to Taipei, Taiwan through Customs Clearance. It turns out that shipping this back to Taiwan would cost me a minimum of $35, and up to $95 depending on how I shipped it. So at best Id maybe be a few bucks ahead after lost time acquiring an RMA and preparing the drive for shipment to Taiwan, then waiting possible weeks for a replacement. Less aggravation to just throw the thing in the garbage and cut my losses. In my experience with these drives, even though theyre cheap, they have a lower mean-time-to-failure than the mechanical hard drives theyve replaced (based on the half-dozen or so SPCC replacement drives of various capacities Ive had to replace in numerous systems due to failure). YMMV. And if you decide to make a warranty claim, well, good luck to ya.

I chose this SSD for a home security camera recordings, to keep the computer as quiet as possible and lower the power consumption on a 24-hour device. At this price point and with a 1000 TBW, there is no reason to worry about wearing it out with recording overwrites, by the time it dies I will either need a new PC, or another storage technology will be available. It is very fast for the intended use, scrolling through video recordings is instantaneous and smooth. Highly recommend.

An SSD at this capacity is a steal (2 TB model). I dont have the knowledge and diagnostics to see how this compares to the more popular and expensive SSDs on the market, but as someone that is moving from a regular HDD for gaming I can say that the speed difference is night and day. The only question is durability. Ive been using it heavily for about a month now. I have no complaints so far but Ill come back and update this review if anything happens.

The SSD performs really well for the price (400ish write/read speeds), but I would recommend getting a better SSD if you plan on copying tons of data on it repeatedly (+500GB) in one sweep, cause it does throttle down to 20MB-30MB.
