I bought this, ironically enough, for a trip to Switzerland. My 17 laptop fits (just, but I have a big battery, so thats why I have to maneuver it a bit). Did not tempt TSA by attempting to just open just the compartment. In Europe they dont always require you to remove a laptop if they can see it well. (I was stupid about my iPad, though, it was in my jumbo handbag and I was politely reprimanded. Yes, I suppose an iPad IS a computer, not that you can open it or use a disc or anything.......) I have so far had NO problems with quality as other reviewers have complained of. Zippers work fine, stitching holding up, etc. It became my primary carry-all throughout my trip. I just used a small purse and put it inside. The iPod earpiece feature is a nice touch, but I listen almost exclusively to audiobooks and need to be able to turn it on and off a lot. If I was listening to music Im sure I would use it. Its super-comfortable, even when loaded heavily, and is the perfect carry-on because it holds a lot but is still the right size to shove under the seat. I happened to see it on Amazon as a Deal of the Day, and $55 was well worth it. Would recommend.

I tried the following bags before settling on this one: SwissGear 1900 – tablet sleeve not useful for my purposes Under Armour Storm Hustle II – nice lightweight bag but not sufficient number of useful pockets (internal zippered or velcroed) KAKA waterproof – roomy and well constructed but no internal zippered pockets SwissGear 1908 – not bad but the SwissGear 1923 had more pockets / stitching seems weak Amazon Basics Adventure – fair construction / good weight / not enough useful zippered internal pockets – I liked that laptop compartment had anterior and posterior padding SwissGear 1923 – has one internal zippered pocket in the bag’s flap. Zippered side pockets and front carabineer are also useful. The backpack handle would have been better if it were more rubbery and flexible instead of hard plastic. This bag weighs a bit more than some of the other comparable bags.

I really like this backpack! It is so convenient to have the ScanSmart feature when going through airport security! The laptop compartment unzips to allow you separate the laptop from the rest of the backpack. This backpack has lots of storage compartments like many other reviewers have mentioned. I was able to carry my laptop, DSLR camera, a couple of changes of clothes, several magazines and books, and still could have packed more. Of course it was pretty heavy at that point, so I wouldnt have wanted to pack more. My point is that you can carry a lot with this backpack! It seems like it is good quality and will last a long time. However, this is a pretty large backpack. Im a pretty big guy (64) so it fits me fine, but it looks a little silly when my wife wears it. So you may want to get a smaller size backpack if you dont want to look like a pack mule.

I purchased this backpack to replace my other Swiss Gear laptop backpack - NOT because it was broken or anything was wrong with it but because my new laptop wouldnt fit in my old bag. I needed a bag large enough to hold my new 17 laptop. This was no small feat to accomplish! Knowing how well made my Swiss Gear laptop backpack was, I searched for a a new backpack from them that would be large enough to hold the larger laptop while still providing plenty of pockets and storage space for other items. I am not disappointed in the least. As always, the product is made to the highest standard of quality. My laptop fits beautifully in a padded pocket; there is plenty of storage space for paper files, pens, MP3 player, calculator, e-reader, whatever! The straps are adjustable and padded as well. And since I have purchased my backpack, I know at least five other people who have purchased this same model and are equally as thrilled with their choice as I am.

After an exhaustive search of backpacks online and in-stores, I ended up buying this one for school. It looks a bit bulkier than expected-but Im not complaining. For those of you wondering about how the backpack will look like on you and need a reference on height, I am 55. This backpack has no problem fitting in my 17 MacBook Pro (including its Vera Bradley Case) in the laptop compartment. On days I dont bring my laptop, I store a 1 inch binder in the laptop compartment. It also has an additional pouch across from the compartment for storing a tablet in which I use to store 3 or 4 regular sized folders. The main compartment of the of the bag can be used to store up to at least 4 binders and a textbook. For those of you who dont have a laptop, you can also store 2 more binders in the laptop compartment. Or, you can store a 2 inch binder, two 1 inch binders 1-5 folders, and still have room for a book. The main compartment of the bag also has an attached mesh zipper pocket across from it that can be used to store your chargers and what not. (Ive also packed the bag varying ways of how to hold your supplies for those of you who were wondering about storage.) I use the side compartments hold my glasses while I use the other to hold a hairbrush. I would prefer the straps to have a bit more support like the Jansport bags have - other than that, I have no complaints :)

I had L.L. Bean backpacks for years, so when I was leaving for college three years ago I ordered their newest model with laptop sleeve built in. After only a few years of use, it was fraying at the edges and the zipper began to tear off on the main compartment. I returned it for this one, not knowing if Id like it. I really like the seperate laptop compartment on the back. It makes getting to my computer -- what I reach for most of the time -- quick and easy. The front compartment door could be a little larger but other than that I love this bag! Looks new to this day. UPDATE: after about a year with the bag, the left shoulder strap began to tear at the top where it attaches to the backpack. it looks like its a problem with the stretchy shock-absorbing component of the strap. Ive sent the bag into Swiss Gear for warranty repair, so well see if/when I get a replacement what happens. even with this Im still pretty happy with the bag, as its very functional and good looking. just wishing the straps were a little more heavy duty...

I have used this bag for a couple of trips in the last week and am very happy with it. The bag is very well put together and it is really convenient for the airport as it is as simple as unzipping the back half of bag and opening it out flat for the security scanner. If I were to suggest anything that would make the bag better I would ask for more sections inside the main compartment to store things. There is really only one small pouch inside and then some dividers but I didn;t have a great place to store my paperwork when traveling. The front and side pouches are very roomy and I had plenty of room to store the various gadgets and accessories that I feel the need to travel with nowadays! All in all, this is a nice handy bag and is great value for the cost.

Best backpack. I bought this backpack in 2015. Its 2021. I use it for travel on an almost weekly basis. It doesnt have a scratch on it. Your back will not sweat wearing it either thanks to the mesh back. Cant recommend it strongly enough. Only thing I wish it had is a sternum strap.

OK, so that may be a bit dramatic. I looked for quite awhile for a bag reasonability priced with pockets, bottle pockets, key pockets, kleenix pockets, eyeglass case pockets, book pockets, laptop phone and cord pockets and so on. I commute many mornings via Park and ride into work and need a bag that is easy to carry, pockets for bus pass, phone, Kindle, paper files, pens, keys, glasses, lunch bag, rain coat, and wow. This bag has it all. I am quite satisfied. Sturdy construction. Zippers tough and hold up to my every day use. I have been using for a couple months (or thereabouts) and have nothing about which to complain. Side pockets, one on each side, easily handle my 22oz thermos and coffee cup. The front pocket has slots for pens, markers. There is a attached key clip thingy that easily releases and re-clips. I dont use the padded laptop pocket much - it is large enough for a 15 - 17 screen. My wife things it larger than necessary, however, she isnt the one on the bus in rain and or snow wanting an easy one hand or over the shoulder bag. I do recommend it! Did I mention it has pockets? 22Oct2013 update - I continue to really enjoy this bag. This week (no kidding) I have seen this same bag over the shoulder of a fellow bus commuter, and a gentlemen who belongs to the same wellness center. I have take work out clothes with me to work using this bag so that I could stop and workout on my way home. This is ideal in my book.

This backpack is awesome! I bought this over 4 years ago to take to college and its still going strong! I havent had anything break on this, and I have loaded this up with multiple textbooks at a time. As a math major, I think this has probably gotten up to 50 pounds in it at least. Now I am working on my Masters and still using the same backpack. This is great for compartmentalizing and organizing your stuff. I can hang my keys or a Nalgene water bottle off the carabiner, I put my calculator in a side pocket, pencils/pens in the front, laptop in the back and most of my books in the front main pocket. Makes it really easy to find whatever I need. I have been very happy with this, and even if it breaks tomorrow, I think Ive gotten my moneys worth and will buy another SwissGear.
