> 24 hourFrom the first page, this is one of the most riveting science fiction works Ive read in a long time. Sounds corny, but I really couldnt stop reading until Id finished. People are involved in a major planet-wide deception and are losing their freedoms. Memories are re-wired repeatedly. Just when the main characters are discovering more of the truth about how theyve been deceived, theyre caught and have their memories wiped/changed. Trusted people turn out to be villains who are robbing this planet and turning it into a wasteland. I cant wait until the next book comes out! :)

> 24 hourInteresting sci-fi. Didnt realize thats what it was when I first started reading it, and when I realized they were people on another planet, not just someone on Earth who had powers, I was kind of skeptical, but kept reading. It was very enjoyable and I liked the pace. Didnt know it was supposed to be a series when I got it (if I did, I dont remember), and am now anxious to get the next one to see what happens to these people. I have always been fond of stories with ordinary people who happen to have extraordinary powers and this delivered.

> 24 hourEver wonder what a world without badness would look like? Or how it would feel to live in a perfect environment? The Overtaking takes you to a place where goodness reigns and bad thoughts can simply be erased. People are transplanted from a harmful society to a manufactured city without crime and worries. Danielle believed the premise. She thought she was kidnapping Shayne for his own good, taking him out of an evil environment and giving him paradise. But Shaynes memory wipe does not go as planned, and he retains his mind-reading abilities. Memories of a mother he was programmed to forget pop up, and he starts to realize that things are not as they seem. As Danielles eyes are open, she and Shayne fall in love and discover a nefarious plot built on an illusion. The story is fast paced and fresh--cute and heart-pounding and joyous and gut-wrenching all at the same time. This book was a great start to what will be an epic and exciting series. The cast of characters includes many talents and special abilities as well as two members from the overlord group. Shayne is a cutie-pie, Danielle is gutsy, and Jennaya upbeat and friendly. My only complaint is that one of the heart-throbs died. He had so much potential! (sob, sob, sob). Summary: Delightful sci-fi romance and great start to an engaging series. Victorine Lieske has gathered a personable cast of characters, Shayne, Danielle, Nolan, Celeste, Jennaya, Kellec, Asia, and Gita to fight an evil empire bent on mind controlling a peaceful planet and raiding it for their resources. I cant wait to read the next installment.

> 24 hourThis was an awesome sci-fi novel! I raced through it! I loved the premise and the twists and the characters. However, I just found out it was written 11 years ago and the rest of the series obviously hasn’t followed. I’m devastated!

> 24 hourI didnt really expect any of that. I suggest not reading the summary before opening this or any other book

Happy Reader
> 24 hourIve read several of Victorine Lieskes and this is my least favorite. I like sci-fi and I really like her other books, but the writing in this book felt so choppy and the story just didnt flow for me. I had such a hard time with the story I almost didnt finish this book. There was no character depth and this story ends in a cliffhanger. Content: Completely clean Language: Completely clean Religion: Not at all Overall story: Science fiction romance. This had a lot of potential. Two characters from different worlds meet. Both are misunderstood. One society had super powers. Kind of a cool premise. BUT, as mentioned above theres no meat to the story. Neither the characters nor the story are very well developed. HAPPY READING!

> 24 hourThe Overtaking is an inspired young adult novel in the realm of Hunger Games style. It was easy to like the main character, Shayne, and after Danielle wised up, it became easy to like her too. There was a decent story to this that left you wondering what will happen as you read it. I found when I was finished I wanted to read the next one instantly, only to find it wasnt out yet. Kudos to Lieske for the creativeness in this novel and boo for making us wait!

> 24 hourIm not much of a sci-fi fan, but the Overtaking was a really enjoyable read, feeling more like an urban fantasy or paranormal romance. The writing was fresh and fun, great turns of phrase and fast paced. Being an indie book, its also nice to point out that this read as clean as any book from a traditional publisher (no errors or typos, etc). The story kept me interested throughout, and I enjoyed the romantic elements. The romance between the main characters was set up really nicely, particularly with the set backs the romance kept facing, and how the characters re-approached their relationship each time. I would give this 5 stars, except that I wish it had ended more wrapped up. I understand there is a sequel coming, but I personally prefer a book to come to a more complete ending even with a sequel on its heels. I am totally hanging out for the sequel now though. I can see this story and world being developed into a great series.
