20-12-2024The product was being used to control a patio light string and a short surfaced in the power cord resulting in the unit disconnecting the power for the lights and disconnecting the wifi link. TREATLIFE customer service promptly sent a replacement which is now working fine. Their customer service was great!!!

> 3 dayEverything works great, app on cell phone easily controls dimming, time setting but I would like to set the dusk to dawn but cant figure out how to make it work. Havent taken the time to contact the manufacturer/seller. Im sure its probably a simple setting under scenes but cant figure out how to save the setting. If you are tech savy this is a good device for you.

15-12-2024Okay, here is the deal. I purchased and was expecting a seamless Alexa integration, like my other 3rd party plugs. That was not the case. The directions suck, pure and simple. When you contact Treat Life Customer Service, there is a communication and time zone issue, where as I suspect is in a country that is far away from the USA. Takes days for a response and their response needs interpretation and breakdown. Treat Life or Smart Life, pick on and stick with it. I recommend Smart Life. We got both the Treat Life and Smart Life apps to work with minimal difficulty; the problem came when we tried to connect it to Alexa. After weeks of trying everything, calling Amazon, contacting Treat Life numerous (way too many) times, we gave up. I initiated a return and wrote a scathing review. We loved the dimmer plug and ability to dim our string lights, so we decided to give it one last try. I called Amazon again. The Amazon Tech (Aaron was awesome, by the way) was determined to find out why the Treat Life Dimmer Plug wouldnt connect to Alexa. After close to an hour of a determined Tech - problem was resolved and we now LOVE our Treat Life Dimmer Plug; the Treat Life company, not so much. Here is what happened and I want to point out, this has never happened with any of our other 3rd party plugs. The Echos were purchased under my husbands Amazon account. I have a joint account. I was trying to activate the skill via my Amazon Alexa app. Once I activated the skill via my husbands Amazon Alexa app - it worked. We are now happy. I cancelled the return and deleted the original review. Exterior Dimmer Plug is great and we recommend the product.

> 3 dayI so much wanted this dimmer to work with my LED string patio lights. I didnt even care if the Alexa integration worked or not...I just wanted a manual dimmer. After I plugged the string lights into the unit, I pressed the button to turn them on and everything seemed to work. The dimming range was very limited but acceptable. The problem I had was that the wall outlet I have to use for the string lights is on the same circuit as some can lights that are operated by a wall switch, which also has a dimmer. I found out that turning on the wall switch not only turns on the can lights that are directly connected to it, it also turns on the string lights that are plugged into the wall outlet. By the way, the wall outlet is definitely not connected to the can light switch. Both outlets on the duplex wall outlet are hot all the time regardless of the on-off position of the wall switch; they are merely on the same breaker circuit from by power panel. So, I took the Treatlife dimmer out of the connection so the string lights were plugged directly into the wall outlet. With that configuration, the can light switch has no effect on the string lights. I have to plug the string lights in to turn them on and unplug them to turn them off...or course I cant dim them but they work as expected. I then plugged the Treatlife dimmer back into the wall outlet and plugged the string lights into the Treatlife dimmer. Back to the problem of the can light wall switch turning on the string lights. Even worse, when I use the can light dimmer to dim the can lights, the Treatlife dimmer responds by quickly pulsing the string lights from off to on, off to on, etc. This problem seems bizarre to me but I dont have any option but to return the unit and look for a different dimmer for the string lights. Maybe this problem is unique to me because of my wiring configuration but you may have the same problem if you use other dimmers on the same circuit breaker. UPDATE: April 9, 2021 - Treatlife immediately responded to my review by offering to send me a newer version of the dimmer at no charge to see if it will work in my circuit. Im hopeful it will but think the company deserves five stars for excellent customer support. UPDATE: April 12, 2021 - Treatlife sent the new dimmer via expedited shipping, which deserves five stars for customer support. However, the “updated” dimmer was the exact same model I initially received. The replacement dimmer did not solve my problem. Other dimmer switches on the same breaker circuit that do not control the duplex outlet I am using for the Treatlife dimmer still turn the Treatlife dimmer on/off and dim and pulse the lights connected to the Treatlife dimmer. So, my initial caution still applies...be careful if you plan to use this dimmer on a circuit that has other dimmer switches.

> 3 dayThis is my third one and it broke in 47 days. The first one lasted maybe 6 months, and the second one just about a year. Can anyone recommend a good one?

> 3 dayThis works great for only 1 family member and this is a big problem. More then one person lives here and more then one person enjoys sitting in the back yard at night. This can only be run with the app and the app only works on 1 phone making it useless for a family

14-12-2024On the plus side, this was the only dimmer which could handle enough wattage for my application, worked with LEDs, and had some means of remote control. Minus number 1: The ONLY way to control it is through the phone app. It MUST be connected to your WiFi; therefore it has access to the entirety of your LAN, unless you hook it up to a Guest WiFI (recommended for security). The privacy policy notes that it will share whatever data it can glean with law enforcement, which, since the company is in China, means the Chinese Communist Party. It notes specifically that the laws under which it operates are not the same as those of your own country. Minus number 2: Although it claims to connect with Alexa and Google Home (I have neither, so I have not tested it), there is no way to integrate it with other home control devices. I specifically asked their tech support if there was an API, and they said there wasnt. I tried to http to its address on my LAN, but it did not respond (at least on port 80). It does integrate with IFTTT, and I have used this successfully to implement a schedule. But I cant sense its state, or control it with my home control system (Indigo on a Mac). Minus number 3: It looses much of its state if unplugged, in a power failure, or if it is otherwise powered down. It forgets its dim range setting and dim mode (there are 3 of them, which are not explained in the manual; the only way to see if one works is to experiment blindly without advance knowledge of how it will affect the load) and resets them to its default values. Fortunately it remembers your WiFi name and password. Minus number 4: The group settings dont synchronize properly. One can establish, say, a group of 2 dimmers. One then has 3 members in the app user interface; lets call them Dimmer1, Dimmer2, and Group. If one turns both Dinmer1 and Dimmer2 on, Group may still display as OFF. If one turns Group on, then IFTTT turns Group off, Group may still display as ON in the app. There are other examples of this lack of consistency, but I cant remember them and they may not even be reproducible. I havent done extensive testing.

> 3 dayThis dimmer is easy to utilize and set up. The app is effective for timed on and off. There are scene options allowing for sunset and sunrise options. The one disappointing aspect is the I’ve not figured out how to turn the lights on at sunset and off at a specific time.

18-12-2024So good that I ordered a second for another set of lights, and may order a third! For those of you wondering, this does have a physical switch / dimmer you can use without your phone. Theres a single button that you tap to turn the lights on and off, or hold down to dim/brighten (it starts going one direction until it maxes out then goes the other direction). Wifi setup was very simple, and, while I havent looked into the fancier settings yet, the basic controls on the app more than meet my needs of manual on/off and a brightness slider. Ive made use of the timer feature as well to make sure we dont forget to turn the lights off after a night of partying. The construction seems solid and pretty rugged. I expect it will last a long time, even outside. I also like that it provides a slot to hook onto a screw or nail for easy wall mounting. My one suggested update is to have a longer power cord. Unless you have an outlet within about a foot of where you want this switch to be, youll need an extension. In my particular scenario, we had to run an extension along the side of the house. That extension goes to a triple outlet staked into the ground because I need at least 2 switches at this location and want to keep the connections off the ground to avoid potential issues with puddles. However, if I connect this switch directly to that staked outlet it will only be about 1.5 feet off the ground, which is pretty inconvenient for using the physical button. This means that I need to either live with that; buy and install another 3-6 ft outdoor extension, causing a setup of extension -> landscape outlet -> extension -> switch -> extension -> lights; mount the switch and leave the outlet hanging (ghetto and probably not 100% weather safe); or, hopefully, find a different cheap outdoor splitter that can be mounted to the wall right beneath the switch. I feel like the power cord should be 3-4 ft, which is long enough to go from the floor, where most extension cords reside, to a normal & convenient height to use the button.
