> 3 dayI pulled some old thermal paste out of a drawer and used it on a cpu. The temps were too high - 50 degrees at idle. The paste was 10 years old. So I got MX-4 and re-did it and temps are 42, where they should be. Proof of effectiveness.

> 3 dayDeliberately chose the MX-4 vs the MX-5 or many others after having previously used Arctic Silver 5 exclusively for the last ~15 years. MX-4 isnt the cheapest, nor the one that provides the best cooling, but it is one of the lower cost options and is only marginally less efficient at cooling. The Noctua NH-1/NH-2 is very similar, and while I havent used, it, its probably a good choice too.
