HARRIS Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade, 4lb with Powder Duster Included in The Bag

We had a major ant problem in and around our house and I sprayed this powder around the edges on the outside of the house and behind cabinets and along baseboards etc inside in order to help repel and kill the ants. We had such a large ghost ant population around here, that I had to use various efforts to discourage them from coming in the house. I used this and boric acid at the same time because I just wanted to make sure that something would work. I also sprayed all around the house and put ant stakes inside and outside. But I know this works, because there have been times that I used it with nothing else. The problem with all these anti-ant substances or methods is that what often happens is THE ANTS DIE IN TRANSIT. So I began to find dead ants here and there and everywhere. They often die before they get back to their nest, and in fact they die sometimes on their way into the house after crossing over the path of the boric acid or diatomaceous earth or poison. So Ive been finding dead ants here and there around my house for over a month now, and I keep hoping they will leave me alone, but they seem intent on wanting to live in and around my house even though I dont leave out food or anything. By the way I was told these are called ghost ants. They seem to be everywhere in the area of Central Florida I was living in. One warning is to be very careful not to breathe diatomaceous earth. It can actually cause damage to your lungs if you breathe too much of it. I see many people using it carelessly. Be careful! For example when you open the bag, the powder begins to sift into the air immediately which reaches your lungs, so I advise wearing a good mask such as an n95 when messing with this stuff. It is almost impossible to use it in any way without it getting into your air space. So you have to be careful. People seem to think because you can actually mix this with water and drink it if it is the right type, that it is not dangerous. No it is not dangerous to drink it in water, but it is dangerous to breathe it in its normal dry form. I also use this as a gnat killer by spraying it on top of the soil of my potted plants. This seems to be working well. Diatomaceous earth has many uses, so I recommend you read about it, but use it responsibly. I gave it only four stars, because the sprayer that they give you with it doesnt really work very well. At times it doesnt spray out at all and other times it sprays too much. It is very difficult to control the sprayer. Ive seen other sprayers of this type that work better.

My house was infested with fleas and my pets do not go out side at all. I used this all through my house and it took about 48 hours and they were gone. applied it again about 5 days later as some baby fleas were showing up and I left it down for 3 days. That was a few weeks now and there are no fleas.. Awesome stuff.

I have used DE for years and started when I raised goats. I needed something that would be friendly for animals but take care of insects. I no longer raise goats but I always use this all over my yard for insects because I have a dog and I don’t like pesticides. Their story is amazing and I will continue to buy Harris. I’ve been using Diatomaceous Earth for several years around the house and in the yard. This purchase came with a thing to spread it around outside, much more convenient & efficient than using a measuring cup to spread it. I’ve found it to be very effective on large anthills outside and along the wall when we had ants inside. I mixed a tbsp or so in my cats’ food when several of them had tapeworms from fleas, put it down along the walls inside the garage, around the border of the house on the outside, under & directly on the front/back deck & porches, and in the crawl space to cut down on bugs. DE is the only pest control method I use, aside from topical/oral flea treatment on my pets, because it’s safe to use around animals and humans! When the exterminator came to do a termite inspection, he commented that was a good choice to control pests around the house, enough said for me!

Got this is a detox, its working great. No scent which is wonderful. As described.

I really like DE and I use it multiple places. I mix it into my chicken feed to prevent and kills worms in my chickens. I sprinkle it in the garden both at ground level as well as on the leaves and veggies. I also use it on my fruit trees. It really works on the insects we get here at my farm. I love that this one comes with a device to squirt/spray/distribute the powder on these various places. Its a little messy to fill but it helps to powder a chicken tail that has nits (as she runs away from you!)

This is a great product for keeping fungus gnats controlled. If infested, cover the top of soil completely with it about 1/4 inch and try to go at least two weeks before working into the soil. Bottom water to keep from disturbing.

I got this to apply around my apartment, for precautionary measures. The duster is much bigger than anticipated. I used something else to help apply it where I wanted it. Best thing about it, its natural and effective. HOWEVER.............be very careful when applying this. I would suggest wearing a mask when applying it, not because of smell, but because in general, breathing this in could be very harmful. Also, wash your hands, after any contact with it. Again, for safety reasons, despite it being natural and safe. This large 4 lb. bag will last me quite some time, and for the price, Im pleased that I got it.
