I had the previous version for 6 years or so. Loved it. The bulb finally went and I ordered this new one because it was an upgrade with 4K and it is glorious!

    Greater than one week

Purchased July 2022. The projector is a part of our golf simulator. After sitting idle/powered off for a couple months the projector failed to power up recently, 11-23-2022. Tried all reset procedures. Reached out to Amazon and the unit could only be returned by August 23, 2022. Thought we did our homework but obviously we missed something....$1,000 for no more than 2 months of use. I have reached out to Optoma via their contact us. Time will tell if they make it right.

This is a great projector, especially if you are using it for gaming. I was so impressed with it, I ditched the TV entirely. Its super bright. Great response times. Enough features. I have Fire Stick, Chromecast, PS4, and a direct connect HDMI all connected. But... It has handshake issues. This isnt the end of the world, but it does make it annoying enough that I reached to Optoma customer service to see if they had any resolutions. I ran across mentions of the issue in multiple reviews, including Projector Central. The main issue Im having is with a direct connection to my MacBook, Thunderboldt to HDMI. It basically wont hold the picture, constantly flickering. Ive tried multiple cables and converters, nothing works. Other reviews mention issues with the PS4 (Ive had none) or other devices. Ive had minor issues with the Chromecast, but not as much as the direct connection. I believe this is a firmware issue, not a hardware issue. Customer support basically brushed me off even after I sent them links to all the other references of the handshake issue. They suggested I send it in, since its still under warranty. I havent made up my mind on what Ill do with the unit yet. I dont want to send it back in, since theyll probably send me a refurb. I just wish Optoma would recognize there is an issue and look into it. They say they have no reported handshake issues. Well, Im reporting it. That said, this is a great projector for the money. I looked long and hard before upgrading. I settled on this one mainly because of the brightness and gaming aspects.

Picture is nothing short of astounding. I have the projector mounted in a bright living room and can easily watch during the day with the curtains drawn. I would love to give this five stars..but I cant because every once in a while, it does some kind of thing where the power indicator flashes purple and the power button on the remote is ineffective. Never had this issue with my old HD 27. Anyhow, at these times, I have to climb up on the couch, pull out the power plug and plug it back in in order for it to work. This sucks even more because it often moves the mount so I have to refit the picture to my screen. Wish I knew a fix; but for now, Ill just expect to have to go through this nonsense once or twice a week. Otherwise, its an awesome projector!

The only thing I didn’t like about it was no Bluetooth for sound hookup nor was there really any good ‘out’ port for a high quality sound system.

Brightness seems good but the colors are weird and not vibrant.

**UPDATE FEB 18th 2023** PLEASE spare yourself the agony of buying this projector. If you have $1k to spend, its very likely you can comfortably finance a $3k projector. IF YOU CANT thats OKAY, but dont buy this.... Stick with a better affordable one you already have, and save up or finance something in the low-side of the high-end projectors. Projectors range from $200 to $115k. I started with one of the cheap ones on AMZ, used it outside for summer movie nights for 3-4 years. I think it was a max 720p, eventually kicked it up to a 1080p cheapo for like $200. That did the trick outside, and during the pandemic I thought, hey why not bring it inside for movie nights by myself... It was good but not amazing. Okay, my living room has a lot of ambient light, so I looked up good Bright projectors. I figured, I just need one that can play 4k (even if its not full 4k) and has lots of lumens. Thatll be fine. Thats how I ended up on this, even though the CNET review said it was mediocre at best. Oh how I wish I had NOT bought this back in may 2021!!! Unboxing my Epson 5050ub today, its a beefy machine 4x the size of this. If you need something portable dont even look at projectors like this from Optoma or Epson etc. Just get the nebula portable projector from Anker. The 4x size seriously looks 4x better and is worth that $1k vs $3k pricetag. Go with Epson 5050ub or ls12000(1k more) if you are looking for an amazing picture youll be happy with for 5-10 years. The BenQ ht5550 is also a good one, but I really liked how the 5050ub handles old or bad sources. Lots of roku streams are still 720p so having decent contrast and upscale and black levels VERY MUCH outweighed crisp resolution for me. I sit 10 away from the screen anyway lol. The exponentially better picture, at $100/month for 18 months lol and just a better experience with switching sources (Ive tried HTPC, Roku, PS5 no syncing problems like optoma) I wish I wouldve bought this years ago. Ill be selling my optoma to a friend for half the price I bought it for. **Update Feb 15th 2023** The issue with spinning icon and blue screen has gotten progressively worse. To the point it may take 15-20 minutes for the Projector to properly throw a picture for the PS5. Sometimes it just gives up and I have to power cycle everything (ps5, receiver, projector) to finally get something to appear on the screen. This might be okay for cheaper projectors in the sub $500 range, but for a projector around the $1k pricetag I feel like its unacceptable. The projector is used daily as a main media viewing device and needs to function properly every time. . Ive moved my rating down to TWO STARS because of the above visual problems as well as the abysmal customer support, if you even want to call it that. . Their website looks like it came from 1998, no frills. Which tells me how much effort they put into their customer facing persona. I found a support contact form and filled it out. That was in June of 2022. Got an automated email saying theyd respond in 2 business days. They never did. - Emailed them Jan 17th got an automated email. Followed up on Feb 15th and they claim they replied and to check spam. Nothing went to spam. Theres no response from them. - I cant recommend this projector. There is no customer support. So Ive gone ahead and bought a Epson 5050UB. Ill probably sell this Optoma to a friend for $500 or something. But really, go online and read reviews, you can get a better Projector for around the same price range. For example the BenQ CineHome HT2050A. When I bought this I was only interested in a bright projector because its in my living room and I watch frequently during the daytime. Dont make the mistake I did. ______ Ive had this projector since May 2021 so coming up on a year of ownership. Its in my living room which faces North and has a lot of windows on the east side. Attached a pic to give an idea of a sunny day at noon (March 19th 2022) T2 is playing at 720p upscaled from a Win10 PC using media player classic with the newest codecs. PC is running to an older but trusty Onkyo TX- NR636. I did have a Yamaha RX-V385 hooked up that supports HDR, but Im not super into the high contrast of HDR and prefer the stronger audio quality of the Onkyo. Plus every time a source had HDR the projector would take forever to sync up and sometimes would fail to output proper video til I made it sync a few times or cycle between inputs. ****I emailed Optoma to try and get steps on how to update firmware but never got an answer and havent found any instructions online.**** Overall I like the picture, darks can be a little muddy sometimes but thats not a big deal to me. I watch soccer, F1, play PS5 racing games and shooting games, lots of anime, TV and movies. The projector works well in every facet and with any amount of ambient light. ***One star off just due to the issues sometimes syncing up a source and having to fiddle with it for a few minutes.*** Its a good deal if youre not looking for an ultra high end projector that will cost you easily double, triple or even higher prices.

Dont buy Optoma Products. Bad components. Main board went out every 9 months with very little use of the product. First time covered by warranty but then costs as much as projector after first time.
