Greater than one weekOverall, Im pleased with this Hoover carpet cleaner. We have several large area rugs in our newly built home that havent been cleaned (only vacuumed) since we moved in 18 months ago. We were thinking about getting a professional rug cleaner to do the job, but saw that this carpet cleaner would cost less than a one time cleaning by a professional. The reviews were good so we decided to give it a try. Unpacking and assembly was very easy. No tools required. The quick use guide was good if youre the kind of person that doesnt want to take the time to read the entire manual. The manual itself goes into just the right amount of detail to tell you everything you need to know. The machine is very easy to use. Just put warm water into the tank up to the first fill line. Then add the cleaning formula up to the second fill line. The two fill lines take the guess work out of how much formula to use (as long as youre using the correct formula for the machine). Dumping the waste water is easy... just squeeze the handle on top, lift out, dump and reinsert. The machine is very light and easy to handle. Its a very easy machine to use. As far as cleaning, the machine does a pretty good job cleaning my rugs. The waste water was a very dark brown, so it definitely sucked a lot of dirt out. Visually, it was apparent that our rugs looked much cleaner after cleaning them with this machine. So, I am pleased with the result. Especially considering that this machine only cost us $99.00. There were a few spots on our rugs the machine did not get up. So I used my Bissell spot cleaning machine to get those out. Some dirty spots just require a little more muscle and time. One cleaning note - the warm water, formula and scrubbing this machine does will definitely loosen the dirt. But if you rush going back over the carpet to suck out the dirty water, the results wont be as good. I found that a couple of extra passes over the carpet with just the suction on to suck out all the dirty water possible will bring better results. Does this machine clean as well as a professional cleaning? Probably not, especially on deep rugs and carpet. But I dont believe there is much difference between the effectiveness of the two options. If youre willing to purchase this thing and do the work yourself as opposed to using a professional, youll save a lot of money. The question now is, how long will this machine last? Some of the reviews indicate it could die within a year or two. I guess it depends partly on how often you use it. But if I get two years out it, it will be worth the purchase. What would I change about this little rug cleaner? First of all, I wish the electrical cord was longer, but its not a big deal. Second, I wish the two tanks held more water. You have to empty the waste tank and refill the clean water tank often. To clean 5 large rugs and 4 smaller rugs in my home, I refilled the clean water tank a dozen times. I dumped the waster water tank 7 times. Its a bit aggravating to have to refill and dump so many items. But I guess its a trade off to make the machine lighter and easier to handle. I only found one problem with the machine. The machine is designed to stop vacuuming whenever the waste tank is full. There is a full tank line on the waste container. The problem is that the machine stops vacuuming before the full tank line is reached. It took me a little time to figure out what the heck was going on when it stopped vacuuming. Once you know it will stop vacuuming a little short of the line, its not a big deal. But I want to mention it in case those reading this review experienced the same problem. So, I do recommend this machine. Its does a nice job cleaning carpet and rugs. It will save you money if youre willing to do the work yourself.

> 3 dayI have never used a carpet cleaner like this before so I have no idea if it is better or worse than others. I bought this to clean the carpet in my apartment because I didn’t feel like vacuuming alone got it clean. I was right, this cleaner pulls a whole lot of nastiness out of carpet. The biggest surprise was how much hair my top-of-the-line vacuum misses. This cleaner easily gathers up the excess hair and fuzz and turns it into wads of gray chewed-up looking clots that resemble rat fur. Very disgusting, but helpful since most of it doesn’t get tangled in the inside of the cleaner. After using it several times, I found the best way to get an area clean was to spray it going forward and backward and then to run the cleaner over each area around 15 times for minimal dampness. I cleaned all the carpeted areas of my apartment with it twice and the water was still pretty cloudy. The solution reservoir doesn’t hold much—it’s enough to do half a mid-sized bedroom and then you are on to the next debacle—cleaning it. Cleaning the cleaner is by far the worst part. Debris gets caught up in the housing around the roller and while you can take it apart to clean it, you have to remove some screws and it is a pain. The dirty water reservoir is hard to empty. There is a handy little strainer that looks like a coffee k-cup that you can pop out and rinse off so that is handy. The downside is that you have to empty and refill the cleaner a lot unless you’re just using it for a small space or a rug. It came with a sample of pet odor neutralizing cleaning solution and that is what I purchased for continued use and I do not care for it. It smells vaguely like floor cleaner but mostly like pencil lead. It did neutralize the pet odor after two uses—I had an elderly cat who had a few accidents in the last days of her life. I doubt this would make much difference if there had been more urine or a stronger urine odor. The smell dissipated over 12 hours with the window open and fans on to dry the carpet completely. This mentions stairs—I could not use it on my standard-size carpeted stairs. It is bulky and can’t cover the whole stair going side to side, and there isn’t enough suction to dry them out if you try to go at them from the front. For the love of dog, do NOT add the solution to the reservoir before the water. The instructions explicitly say to add it last and there is a reason for that. Overall, I would say the product works okay but if I had it to do over again I would have just had professionals come and clean the carpets for me. I can’t wait to move somewhere with no carpet!

> 3 dayThe handle for the upholstery cleaner was hard to attach. You had to force it on to make the fluid flow through the hose to the brush trigger. Once we got it to work, it worked well, but I fear that it may break in the near future seeing how much force I had to use to connect the hose...I wish there was a larger compartment for the cleaning fluid and the catchment container...

> 3 dayI have a low pile rug in my living room and it was impossible to keep it clean. I have one medium hair cat and this rug is her favorite place to hang out. It is a 10 x 12 rug and it was taking me, no lie, over 2 hours to vacuum or clean and it still looked awful. I decided to try to get a shampooer especially designed for removing animal hair. This model appealed to me due to it being described as lightweight but still having great suction. That is it in a nutshell. I had a Hoover carpet cleaner for 20 years and it worked great, my only quibble was the weight, had to be over 20 pounds so my carpets werent cleaned as much as they should. This machine is perfect for my needs. I would read the other reviews, it works best when you take your time, put down a small area with solution, then SLOWLY go over it to remove all the water. If you sweep like a vacuum, using more speed to vacuum will actually take more time. Assembly takes about 5 minutes tops, and the directions to assemble and use is included and straightforward. A small bottle of cleaning solution is included, probably for three or our tanks. The suction on this small machine is incredible. You could feel the machine almost latch on to the carpet and I felt like the solution was getting deep into the surface and then really getting sucked out. I had high suction only until the supply canister of water/cleaner was just about out. I did no prep work on the carpet so it was absolutely full of cat hair, shredded paper, dirt, etc. Since this was the first time cleaning, I wanted to get it as clean as possible, and I needed a little bit of time to see how to best operate it. An hour later, the rug was shampooed and it took about an hour. The collection pail water was very dark brown, which was gross but not as gross as realizing I was walking on it and my cat was rolling around in it. The price was fantastic well under $100. I would expect it be well over $100. I rent out furnished apartments and Im going to buy at least one more machine to use for my business. Its an excellent investment, particularly if you own an animal or if you rent to individuals who have animals. 5/5 stars:: excellent machine!

> 3 dayThis particular version of the Hoover line of carpet cleaners is truly a 5-star product because every aspect of it, from design to operation and maintenance, appears to have been successfully thought through and seemingly improved from what I read about earlier or less expensive models. This model is great for cleaning up small areas with pet messes or dirt. Its not meant to be a whole-house solution (like the Bissell Green Machine), but it does what it advertises. Its lightweight and easy to maneuver; it is easy to fill the cleaning tank with water and cleaning fluid; its super-easy to see how much cleaning solution is left because its made of clear plastic. Emptying the dirty water tank and removing the brush roll cover are not quite as graceful but work reasonably well. The model comes with really good accessories, including a brush cleaning tool and very helpfully, an attachment that enables the cleaning of stairs. Hoover has created very good, to-the-point YouTube videos explaining how to operate the cleaner, how to clean it, and also another video on advanced maintenance.

> 3 dayI had a good eureka carpet cleaner but sadly it doesn’t work anymore. After much research and reading tones of reviews, I decided to get this Hoover because research and reviews stated it worked good on “Pet” cleaning stains. I must say, I am satisfied with cleaner. It worked great at pulling up dirt and pet hair from carpet. One thing that wasn’t desirable was when I turned off the cleaner to empty there was dirty water puddled out. I’m am sure if this is normal or a problem. I did get the rubber mat and sat the cleaner on it so most of the water coming would be on it and not on the carpet.

> 3 dayDecided to give this a try to see if I can clean the stain on a very white long shaggy rug. My expectation wasn’t that high after reading other reviews about shaggy rug. OMG!! This works GREAT!! It has no problem cleaning a very long shaggy rug!! Very good investment!!

> 3 dayEasy assembly easy fill water/ cleaner bottle and easy empty dieting water empty process. Used one time one day after delivery and cleaned 2 bedroom light color carpers one long runner closet carpet one hallway runner carpet 2 small bathroom carpet mats and one medium living room center carpet, this required 3 full clean water bottles with cleaner but cleaning was exceptionally good with hoover cleaning liquid supplied with small bottle already all used up. Pet stains from one cat were removed 90 percent and a weekly clean with this machine will keep carpets rugs looking very good for a long time. Lightweight and easy to move around on carpets it really lifted a lot of dirty brown water . The best policy is to not over wet the carpets rugs and so greatly reduce drying time. Additional cleaning weekly will improve carpet appearance even more. Great price for a great little cleaner . Highly recommended for its cleaning ability at this time of writing.
