Kaytee Clean & Cozy Natural Small Animal Pet Bedding 24.6 Liters

Bought this as an emergency back up for my son’s Guinea pigs when Petco ran out of our usual brand. Never again! My son discovered maggots in it as he put it in the guinea pig cage, and not just one or two, hundreds of them. How disgusting!!!

This bag was not tightly-packed. The material was loose inside. It hardly expands at all, definitely not even close to 3x the size. I have gotten similar bags of bedding a dozen times and this is the worst by far. The last bag the same size just not the natural lasted 4 times as long. And this one does not do a good job absorbing pee, the plastic below was gross.

I use this and have never gone back to wood chips. It is so much better with smell and my bunny is so much happier with this.

The bedding comes in bulk and last quite awhile before needing changed.

We have had many small animals in our household over the years, and we always used CareFresh. When we got our first hamster (a female), she did great on that product. However, our second hamster (a male) came down with a breathing issue. After several visits to the vet and several rounds of antibiotics, our vet said he likely had a tumor in his nasal passage. Sadly, he continued to decline, and we finally had to put him down because he was slowly suffocating to death. It was awful. Then we purchased out third hamster (also a male), and about four months into having him, HE started coming down with breathing issues. My daughter was devastated. He began to decline at a fairly rapid rate, and I decided I wasnt buying the tumor idea any longer. Too coincidental. So I started doing some research. Well, I discovered there are some substances hamsters can be allergic to, and one of them was CareFresh (timothy hay too - first ingredient in that high-quality hamster food that starts with Ox - so that went into the trash too!). Carefresh is too dusty for them, and it gets into their nasal passages. Hamster owners said that Kaytee Clean and Cozy was the least dusty product on the market, so we immediately ran to the pet store and purchased some. Well, over the next couple of weeks, our precious little guy slowly got better. He went on to live out his full hamster life :) Our fourth hamster (male) is doing fantastic on this bedding and is currently 2.5 years old. Like I said, CareFresh seemed to work well for our other critters (birds, guinea pigs, reptiles), but not for the hamsters. PLEASE consider using this bedding. I just wonder how many hamsters have died with breathing issues when it may have been a simple change in bedding. As a side note in case youre interested, during my research to replace the high quality food that went into the trash, I found that the preferred food with hamster people in the UK is Tiny Friends Hazel Hamster. Ours have done really well on that, along with their daily fresh food :) If my post helps in saving even one hamster from dying due to breathing issues, I will be happy :) Thank you for reading.

Very absorbent and controls odors nicely. Goes a long way.

amazing! this bedding lasts me a while and fluffs out for more volume nicely. it leaves barely any, if any at all, odor in my guinea pigs’ cage. easy cleanup too! the texture is just a little rough to my liking, but it’s still pretty soft! overall, good value and good product.

So it is probably my own fault for not double checking the product before I bought it, but I THOUGHT I had ordered aspen shavings for my breeding rat colonies. However this crap came instead, and looking back, somehow they did a switch on me right before I paid. Anyways, this crap comes and I cant really wait for a return and replacement, so I use the stuff. It DOES NOT CONTROL ODOR AT ALL!!!! I am very disappointed. It gets piled up beneath the water bottles and ends up causing the drip to run steadily, soaking the bedding thru and thru and then it attracts maggot flies and well, the clean up is horrific. This product is HORRIBLE!!! I do NOT recommend if you dont want to spend extra time cleaning it up. I am currently waiting on my aspen shavings to arrive and I will get the last of this crap out of my life for good.

Easy to clean, well worth the price for the size, disnt smell bad, a bit much dust tho. Wear a mask while fluffing it up. Otherwise use a diff brand if you think it has too much dust, im not sure.
