MindWare Qwirkle Board Game

> 3 dayThere’s a lot to love about this game, but it won’t be for everyone. HIGHLIGHTS: • No major setup required. • Very easy to learn (and teach). • Quick rounds—great for fast games. • Some strategy is required. • Superb for travel; it’s easy to pack. WHAT I DON’T LIKE: • Not much complexity. • Unexciting design of the tiles. A great game for kids, and it’s a good option if you’re looking to involve both kids and adults. It’s super quick to set up, the rules are easy to understand, and it’s fast enough so that it can be played once or multiple times. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a quick, casual game to enjoy with people of different ages. Ultimately though, it might be a bit too simple for some groups. We’re in an era of FANTASTIC board/tabletop games. There is a lot of competition, and there are many, many games deserving of your attention. For that reason, it’s tough to fully recommend this, because other games might be more worthy of your time. To put it another way, I don’t know if it would hold everyone’s attention for an entire game night, or for a family evening while traveling. It’s great for a few rounds, but there simply isn’t much depth to it. The bottom line? It’s good, but make sure to consider other games as well.

> 3 dayGreat game for family or couples. Appropriate ages 5 and up. Similar to dominoes but uses colored wooden squares with 1 of 6 different shapes printed on the face side of the square. Play continues until all of the squares are placed on the playing surface (table preferable - not recommended for surface in a car). Players continue to draw from the cloth bag each turn until bag is empty. First player to place all of their tiles on the playing surface wins the game and also ends the game. Scoring is kept at each players turn. Scores determine who came in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. A great alternative to dominoes.

> 3 dayIf you quiver with fear when your child asks to play a game, well youre a lousy parent who isnt interested in your childs social, emotional, and cognitive development. Ha! I kid! But lets say you groan when they bring out Candy Land or Chutes & Ladders. Qwirkle could be your redemption. The games point was simple enough for my 4yo to grasp it, and they mastered the rules after only a few games. But because the actual sequence of events is random and changes with each game, the challenge is stimulating for everyone, including adults. Most childrens games are less-interesting to adults, because of the formulaic game play: roll die, move piece, draw card, etc. Why do people like Scrabble? Because the game is different each time. It stimulates the (supposedly) higher-order cognition within the (supposedly) more developed adult brain. Well, I often describe Qwirkle to other adults as Scrabble with pictures. You will find yourself thinking hard to maximize your points, trying to keep up with your kids. And why, exactly, are kids required to play this game? Weve played Qwirkle games at gatherings where there are more wine bottles than children, and Qwirkle is still fun. Thats not how Mindware intended the game to be used, but, really, do any manufacturers expect their products to be used in the ways drinking party-goers eventually deploy them? Qwirkle is awesome. I highly recommend it to parents of young children. And parents who can act like young children.

> 3 dayThis is a really fun game. You make sets of either one of each color with the same design or six different designs of the same color. The point system makes laying down your tiles strategic. It is a fun game without too many rules and a lot of thinking. You can make the game shorter by working to a certain point goal rather than emptying the box of tiles.

> 3 dayThis is an easy to learn game. My mom with dementia loves the bright colors and blocks are light and easy for her to move around. We love it.
