The rules for Qwirkle are simple, straightforward, and well explained in the accompanying instruction sheet. Age range is shown on the box as 6 and up. Ive played only against other adults, but children could have a great time with this game, either with other kids or with adults who would have adequate patience. The more compelling thing about this game is the complexity that develops as the game progresses. Its not a mindless game, and its not just about luck. There is certainly some luck involved, as choices depend on the tiles drawn, but there is significant strategy involved in how best to use the tiles one draws. Qwirkle is great for travelling; the tiles come in a cloth bag, so you dont need the box, and once youve read the instruction sheet, you dont really need to have it with you. Throw the bag in a suitcase or anywhere available in the car. There are a couple of caveats about play: 1. You need a flat space, and youll probably use more space than you expect. The tiles tend to spread, and youll never know which direction theyre going to go. Start in the middle of a card table (or larger). 2. Depending on who is playing and whether or not you decide to impose a time limit on each turn, the more players you have, the longer it is between each persons turn. Depending on the players, this can get testy ... or just more social. Enjoy the game; most of the times Ive played, we didnt even keep score. But for the more competitive, theres plenty of opportunity for competition.

Challenging enough to make you think, but fun and casual.

Our friends introduced us to Quirkle in Germany, and we enjoyed it so much they gave it to us to bring home. It is easy to learn and an entertaining combination of strategy and luck. Each time we introduce it, others decide they must have it, too! We’ve bought several to give as gifts.

This is my all time favorite game! I have gifted it about 5 times and everyone loves it. They even have a mini version for travel that comes in a zippered pouch and the tiles are smaller. This is a really easy game to learn but you can play with strategy as you get to know it and it gets really fun. It is sort of like scrabble mixed with sudoku. Even my 9 year old nephew plays it. It is also one of those games that is just as fun for 2 players as it is for 6. Also great for any age. My only critique is that in lower light everyone has a hard time differentiating the red and orange tiles and sometimes the blue and purple tiles. I wish there was more contrast or a pattern or something instead of the colors being so close. Otherwise, 10 out of 10!!

My kids are honestly, not too bright. They dont do well with games that require strategy. And they dont take losing well. They get easily frustrated with many board games. They love this game. So it is excellent for family game nights. You can play this game with very young kids, to the elderly. Even people with a partial language barrier could play this game together. All the players need to understand is language, shapes, and the rules.

This game is kind of like playing scrabble, but with shapes and colors instead of numbers. The game consists of tiles that have 6 different shapes, and 6 different colors. Each set that is played can be a maximum of 6 tiles long, called a qwirkle. A set must either be all different shapes but the same color, or all different colors but the same shape. For example, you can have a red set that contains the circle, square, sunburst, ninja star, plus, and diamond. All red plus all 6 of the possible shapes, this would be a qwirkle. You can not repeat the same shape in the set. Example: You can not have a red circle, red square, red plus, and then another red circle. The goal of the game is to use the tiles in your hand to make a new set or add on to an existing set. You earn 1 point for each tile you play, one point for each tile in a set that you connect to, and bonus points for making a qwirkle. Most points when the tiles run out is the winner! We have played this game with a group of adults only and it was a lot of fun. Its a lot more laid back than a stressful game of scrabble, and the game moves along a lot quicker. I have also played what I call clean up qwirkle with my 8 and 9 year old sons. Whenever someone got a qwirkle we had to go clean house for 10 minutes. The house got a lot cleaner, and the kids really enjoyed the game. They ask to play clean up qwirkle pretty often now! They definately needed help keeping track of the points/scoring, and also a few reminders of not placing tiles in incorrect places. But they did understand the basic concept of the game and are needing less reminders whenever we play. This game would be a great addition to any familys collection.

I wish the tiles Were White instead of black, the black makes it difficult at times to see.
