My grandson and I play this game. He is 5 and understands that we are making patterns. Sometimes we just stack them up into shapes or buildings. More ways to play that just as a game.

Quiet afternoon? Nothing to do? My husband and I will pull Quirkle out. Hes not a real game fan but we enjoy this one. It is like scrabble but without words. There are so many ways to add onto the board. I love the wooden blocks. They are stored in the linen bag--no need to dump them onto the table and have the task of turning over the tiles. You draw out of the bag.

This is a really fun game. You make sets of either one of each color with the same design or six different designs of the same color. The point system makes laying down your tiles strategic. It is a fun game without too many rules and a lot of thinking. You can make the game shorter by working to a certain point goal rather than emptying the box of tiles.

I bought it for my younger children because it looks like a childs game, and the box stated ages 6 and up, but it turned out to be a bit more difficult than it appears. It may look like playing with blocks, but it is much more. My younger ones still want to play with them, and I let them with the stipulation that they dont lose any of the pieces. Its like a deck of cards in that respect. Once the rules are established, it really is a remarkably strategic and fun game for such a simple concept. It doesnt take anything to play except the squares, a pad and something to write with. My 14 year old and I play it regularly, and we love it. We renamed it bazinga. The only thing that would make this game complete is a device to keep score, as you have to write down your score after each move, and it takes 30 or 40 moves per person to complete a game with two people. This game is similar in ways to dominos, card games, chess, backgammon, or checkers, and is highly recommended to anyone who enjoys any of these.
