> 3 dayMy dad uses these for art drawing when I was little. 40 years later when I got into drawing I bought myself the same brand and they are good pencils. I’m happy with them.

Greater than one weekBest drawing pencils in the world, bar none! They resist breaking during sharpening, and you get the blackest blacks (instead of just shiny grey) when you need it. So many old & beloved art supply firms have gone under due to Asian competition. Im delighted to see Staedtler is still there making great stuff.

> 3 dayI have the Mars Black and they are smoother but sometimes the black doesnt mesh with the lighter grades. So I thought I would get around to giving these a try. Several of the pencils in the set have been hard to sharpen. Frustrating to have them keep breaking before you even get to use them. I tried several different sharpeners and it made no difference. Secondly a couple of the pencils actually smell unpleasant when sharpening them. I love pencils and have lots of brands so this was kind of surprising the smell of the wood. A couple of the pencils are scratchy too - easily digging lines into the paper. (My Prismas dont do that even in the lightest grades). However after adjusting for that they were ok drawing a picture. Not fabulous however.

> 3 dayMy favorite drawing pencils ever! I have purchased several of these for artist friends, as well, just because I want them to be experiencing the best pencils, too! (This is not a paid advertisement...I didnt get a discount on these or free samples, Im just a huge fan!) This is a great starter set, too, although they dont have anything beyond a 6b. There is another set you can buy that goes up to 8b.

> 3 dayI review pencils on YouTube (rixcandoit), and find the Staedtler Lumograph drawing pencils to be at the top in quality and tonal application. In fact, of all the drawing pencil packs (tins) that I have, the Staedtler Lumograph tops them all in the upper soft range (5B and higher). I believe they must add some carbon to the graphite mix for their really soft pencils to make them so dark with less reflective shine that most other pencils sets have at their softest range. Only the General Pencil Co. 9xxb pencil rivals the 9B Lumograph, but the 9xxb is not part of a standard pencil tin kit.

> 3 dayJust got them and surprisingly LOVE them and the 8B is the darkest of any brand if you are looking for a really dark black. I actually bought a dozen Conte Extra Fine Drawing Pencil in 2B (French) because they are so black, but you cannot use them until the very end of your drawing as they are waxy and do not lift well, so it is not a good idea to use them for layering until the very end when you are adding the finishing touches to your piece. Also, you need a very light tough otherwise the lead breaks off and can create quite a mess. And to tell you the truth, I did not think that I would like these, have no idea why, but bought them as I was told that the 8B was really dark black, which is a hard value to achieve. So, I would say that statement is correct, and this brand has the darkest 8B of any brand and I have used Prismacolor, Derwent, Faber-Castell 9000, Cretacolor. My favourite being Derwent, as it also has water soluble and coloured graphite which is fabulous. Actually I am not that impresses with Faber-Castell 9000 as they are scratchy and I think damage the paper, and off course make it harder to lift without leaving impressions. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

> 3 dayAs an architecture student, I used these pencils previously and was smitten. They offer a large variety of led hardness and work wonders when doing shading, complex line work, or any sort of technical drawings. I repurchased them for my own art solely because I enjoy the feel and quality. Would recommend to any artist or artisan that needs good, sturdy pencils.
