If you grew up in the 60s like I did, then you likely tuned in to the Batman TV series twice a week. In my estimation Adam West and Burt Ward portrayed the only Batman and Robin that matters. The series was chocked full of arch enemies, camp, humor, wit, vivid color, killer fight scenes w/words such as... POW, WHAM, ZOW, BAM... seemingly coming at you thru your TV screen, a wonderful Batcave set with all the bells and whistles including, but not limited to the Giant Lucite Map of Gotham City. And the series featured, of course, the only Batmobile that matters. If you loved the series... then Batman: The Movie is no disapointment. It has all the same wonderful qualities as the series... the only difference... it runs 105 minutes... and is seen in 1.85:1 widescreen. Now it comes at you on DVD in Brilliant Blue Ray which brings out those vivid colors even more. Ive never seen the Batmobile, so sharp, the Batcave so crisp and clear. An entirely NEW viewing experience for a 46-year-old film. And the extras on the Blue Ray version are BATastic! You will get a close-up interactive tour of the Batmobile from nearly every angle. Its almost as if youre opening the door to the real Batmobile and sitting inside. There are several other extra features as well. I love everything Batman... including the newer darker Batman films, but I do not compare them to the TV series or the film from 1966. Its kinda like comparing apples to oranges. But because they played a huge part of my childhood... Adam, and Burts Batman and Robin are my favorites... and Batman: the Movie (1966) is the only BATMAN Movie that matters.

Let’s be honest: This is a deliberately and thoroughly silly movie, in direct continuity with a deliberately and thoroughly silly 1960s TV series—both aimed squarely at kids. “The Dark Knight,” this is not. Nor is it even the campy, but dark Tim Burton movie which this blu-ray’s cover art emulates. This is Adam West at his most Adam West-y. If you go into this knowing and accepting that simple reality, then you’ll have helluva good time and lot of delightful laughs (as was intended). Furthermore, while Julie Newmar remains popular as TV’s original Catwoman, I’m rather partial to Lee Meriwether’s turn in the slinky catsuit in this tie-in movie. She sizzles. The rest of this review regards the blu-ray—and before we go further (because Amazon tends to link a lot of customer reviews to the incorrect items), this review specifically regards the 2008 blu-ray release from 20th Century Fox. It’s got a lot of great behind-the-scenes documentaries and interviews which are very interesting and informative. There’s also a very cool 3D interactive guide to the classic Batmobile which is very well done and educational. However, the disc’s general navigation is very wonky and not very user friendly. It doesn’t hold your place if you leave and return to resume; and you are forced to sit through all the ads every time you restart it. It does not allow you to go directly to the main menu. Also, on my disc, one of the two classic Batman trailers didn’t work. Additionally, while some of the special features are in HD, I’m not convinced that the movie itself is in HD (1080p). It does not stipulate that it is, therefore I suspect that it is not. Don’t misunderstand, the picture quality is very good. It doesn’t look bad at all. But I do notice that it looks ironically grainier and not quite as sharp as the standard definition DVD box set of the TV series, released by Warner Bros. home video—which is so good, you could be tricked into thinking you were watching it in HD. The blu-ray quirks are the only reason I knocked off a star. Still, at around six bucks at the time I purchased it, it was certainly worth the price and worth having to complete my Batman’66 collection.

The story doesnt hold up as it once did and the camp is over the top for 2015. The stars are for the great quality print in HD. I bought this to see if I should buy the expensive TV series on blu ray. Now, I will pass. Im sorry, Adam West is the worlds biggest over actor! I will watch the series if it comes on TV, mostly to see the best Batmobile and killer theme song. This movie has all the best villains and for casual fans like me, is all you need. I have to laugh at 50 year old men who regard this as cult fans. I know a few! They know all the villains and every cameo that pokes out the window on Batman & Robins wall scaling! To sum up the review, If you want the best episode, here it is! Just enough camp and enough of Adam West to handle! They did a great job restoring it for HD!

4 stars for the fun! If you are a Batman fan and you grew watching the show starred by Adam West and Burt Ward, this special edition is definitely a keeper. The series were a hit on its days and have become a cult classic for fans. In the old days in which Batman wore tights and was accompanied by Robin everywhere, the humor was not voluntarily at all. The movie opens with a hilarious sequence in which Batman fights a suicidal shark filled with bombs, how does he escape the trap? With his anti-shark bat spray of course! What makes this movie a fun thing to watch is all the camp humor in it, the detective labor of Batman and Robin is reduced to nothing but funny, wait until you see how they resolve the riddle on who was behind the attack at the beginning of the film. The united underworld puts together our favorite villains form the series: the Joker, the Riddler, the Penguin and Catwoman. There are memorable sequences in this film such as the described opening sequence or Batman trying to get rid of a bomb. This movie may not be a great film compared to recent Batman flicks, but it is definitely fun to watch and to see how naive was the humor in the decade they made it and the concept of Batman that this series created; no wonder why Joel Schumacher tried to pay a tribute with his two attempts on Batman (`Batman Forever and `Batman & Robin) Adam West also made a career thanks to this show and the film, he had presentations everywhere as the caped crusader; unfortunately people never stopped seeing him as the Batman. Besides of a very decent digital transfer of both image and sound (Sound is presented in both Stereo and Mono), the bat features are a good complement to this special edition, there is a comprehensive audio commentary by Adam West and Burt Ward that opposite to what you may expect, gives you a lot of details, production notes and facts about the making of the movie. There is also a Batman featurette, 2 still galleries, the trailer and a documentary on the creation of the famous Batmobile from the show. The menus are colorful and very well designed according to the movie. The only flaw this special edition has are the subtitles, they do not match at all what is being said on screen, sentences were shortened by an unknown reason, and some of the jokes and funny dialogues will pass unnoticed if you are reading the subtitles. If you were a fan of the show as a kid, youll love this special edition; if you have never seen this film or the show, be prepared for the best camp humor ever seen. Not a great movie maybe but lots of fun and good memories.

This DVD was a great surprise. The extra features including trailers, commercials and the behind the scenes stuff were fantastic! One of my favorite extras is the info on the design and building of the original Batmobile. Very cool! With the designer himself - George Barris. (Who also did The Munster Mobile, Patridge Family Bus and Kitt from Knight Rider.) This movie was made while the series was actually on TV and geared for the summer movies as a filler to keep Batman hot for the next season. It worked. This is a fun movie. All the original villians are there! Cat Woman, the Joker, Penguim and The Ridler. All astonishingly played by the actors who made over-the-top acting a household delight! (Especially Cesar Romero and Frank Gorshin.) Of course, Adam West and Burt Ward were at their best! The story is simple but the Bat props and effects are great! I loved it and had a lot of fun watching it on the DVD. It was meant as a series of pure relief and entertainment and every actor in Hollywood at the time wanted to be a guest villian on this show - and they were! KA-POW!

The film adaptation of the popular ABC TV series from 1966-68 has it all, action, adventure, romance, danger and comedy. Adam West and Burt Ward were excellent in the roles of Batman and Robin. Lee Meriwether(who replaces Julie Newmar due to a prior commitment)was at her sexiest as the Catwoman, and Frank Gorshin, Burgess Meridith and Cesar Romero were hilariously enjoyable as the villains. The special features contains a featurette with Adam and Burt talking about the behind the scenes stories, also there is a tour of the Batmobile with its creator, George Barris. This movie is a treat for kids as well as adults, it may not be the TV series we hope for, but it is close enough!

I always liked the Batman TV show and I think it was a very smart move to make this movie with the 4 most known villains. Each one had nice parts. Ive always liked the Riddlers laugh and the Jokers as well. I sure wished that Julie Newmar had been in the role of Catwoman. Theres no other Catwoman like Julie Newmar. All in all the movie has its laughs and great moments. This movie is a must have for all Batman fans of the 60s.

Sure, there are ways to get rid of a bomb, but for some reason this one grows on you. If you were a fan of the 60s TV show or want to introduce this version of the caped crusader to a new generation this will be a great launch board. If anything you to an hour and a half of babysitting material that looks better then when it was originally released. KAPOW!
