> 3 dayI am so happy with these, I ordered the 36 pack and am sending this one to a friend of mine who also enjoys adult colouring books. The colours are vibrant and go on so beautifully and if you wish, you can layer them as stated without risk of bloom. I like Prismacolor pencils too and had always used those in the past but I think I prefer the texture of these oil based pencils. Its nice to have both brands in my stash of art supplies. These are well worth the price and in fact, Amazon has the best price I could find.

Greater than one weekBy far these are the best pencils out there in my opinion. But it isnt fair to compare with wax based pencils. The oil base will always be better than the wax. They are expensive and I cannot get these in the US. Because of this I do alternate with two different brands depending on the seriousness of my coloring. The wood used for these I think is the best quality found in colored pencils. They sharpen with the least amount of waste. For the best realistic results, these are the pencils I use. Love them!

> 3 dayThis is not my usual brand of colored pencils. After watching a video where these were featured, I wanted to give them a try. These pencils are really nice to work with. Beautiful pigment.

> 3 dayThey are very nice pencils. I own a large amount of Prismacolors, the whole set Caran dAche Luminance, some Derwent coloursofts and Koh i noor polycolors, so didnt need any more colored pencils. But I wanted these and am glad I got them. They feel different from the other pencils I own and lay down color differently.. The Koh-i-noor polycolors feel closest to them, but these feel like a bit higher quality. Its a more substantial pencil and you can feel the difference in the quality of the wood. They are harder than wax-based, but lay down color silkily. I wanted them more for the different feel than because the colors are different/ I like the way they layer. Of course one can use all these together. The lightfastness of most of the pencils is a plus. I think the pencils you prefer to use depends on a lot of different factors and your favorite pencils may not be my favorite pencils. I would say, Caran dache Luminance are the highest quality that I own. But these are a very good second.

> 3 dayI’ve often used a brand of watercolor pencils as my go-to set for colored pencil work for many years, just because its lead was harder than Prismacolors, but I decided to try this Polychromos 36 set out from hearing its lead didn’t easily break from typical use (what made me dislike Prismacolor in the first place). So far Polychromos does live up to this reputation- I highly recommend buying the

> 3 dayBut nice. Not waxy as Prismacolor pencils are but instead are oil based. Which is good or bad depending on what youre looking for. Not yet convinced to buy a larger set. Updated 11/04/2014 I still like the pencils but I just didnt love them enough to replace my prismacolor. Positives are the smooth layer of pigment with no wax crumbles to swipe away while using, buttery wood makes sharpening on a hand sharpener a spiritual experience. Cons are that it didnt deliver the pigment load I was expecting from a no wax pencil. Weak colors and similar coverage over the paper as wax based pencils. Ended up gifting them and the recipient loves them. Because I know many artists who swear by these pencils and create great art with them I think you should try at least the small set to see how you like them and I stand by the 5 star rating because they are great. They werent for me but they are high quality pencils. Heck buy some of all of the professional brands to see whats out there. This is one area where what doesnt float my boat may be your cloud nine. Oh and the tin case is to die for. I nearly kept it when I gifted the pencils.

> 3 dayWhat can I say about polychromos other than they are by far one of the best colored pencils that Ive tried. They go on smoothly and blend exceptionally well. The price is high, but the quality of what you get makes it well worth it. No wax bloom like you get with prismacolor pencils as they are oil based and just glide across the page, and you dont have to press hard to get a solid coat of color. Highly recommend these!

Greater than one weekThese are amazing colored pencils. The best Ive had the pleasure of working with and the tin is gorgeous. I splurged and bought the set of 120 and once I had my hands on them, they were well worth the price. The color lays down fabulously and the pigment is rich and vibrant. Sure, they arent as buttery smooth as Prismacolors, but they are smooth nonetheless (and have better quality throughout). Faber Castell never disappoints. Then again, when youve been making pencils since the 1700s you tend to hone your skills to perfection. What I didnt expect though, was the sweet woodsy smell of cedar when I took off the shrink wrap. This was a pleasant surprise because I love cedar It reminds me of my grandfather and how he used to do woodworking when he was younger. His shop always had a sweet woodsy smell to it. I highly recommend this product!
