Infant Optics DXR-8 Add-on Camera (Not Compatible with DXR-8 PRO)

UPDATED REVIEW------ This video monitor system works great, until it doesnt (we have two cameras and one monitor). My original review reflects that we had to exchange the first camera, and I thought it was a one-off issue, but now Im no longer happy with the overall quality of this system. It was difficult to decide how to rate this, because as long as the system works, it really is great, but the fact that 2 cameras failed within their first year due to different reasons, bumped the rating down to 2 stars for me. One camera stopped being able to move down, the other stopped working in night mode (so you couldnt see anything in the room and were basically back to an audio monitor). Its a hassle to exchange if you dont have a second monitor set as a backup, because you will be out of a baby monitor for a week or so while the defective unit is mailed back, received, and a new one is sent back to you. I awarded one star for a system that we loved as long as it did work and a second star for customer service (we contacted Infant Optics directly and they were very nice and helpful) that honors their promise to exchange the broken cameras (though we did have to pay for shipping back for any defective units). Overall though, I would expect the video monitor system to just work — especially with a baby or children in the house, Id rather not have to worry about equipment working and dealing with exchanges and the inconvenience of not having the video monitor while we wait for replacement. Sadly, I cannot recommend this system, which is too bad because if the cameras worked 100% of the time, this would easily be a 4 to 5 star product. ORIGINAL REVIEW------ PROS: • can be operated remotely to swivel and turn • good picture quality even in the dark • mounts easily (flush against the wall or standing up, long cable) • sleek look • great customer service • far reaching video signal (though see CONS note below) • can add multiple cameras to cover many rooms CONS: • camera stopped moving down (manufacturer replaced for free (we had to pay shipping of defective unit), easy return process) • signal reaches far but has a few trouble spots within the house, even close to the bedroom We have two cameras and one corresponding video monitor. The quality of the video feed is good and the image shows up well even when the room is dark. The best feature of the camera is its ability to swivel and turn, which you can operate remotely from the monitor — we have a crib and a big kid bed in one of the bedrooms, so its nice to be able to move between the two easily without having to adjust the camera angle manually. The camera signal reaches pretty far — were able to be out and about in the yard without ever losing contact. However, there are some trouble spots within the house, even very close to the bedroom with the camera, so we do have to move the monitor to a better spot frequently (by now weve figured out the best places to get a good signal in the house, it just takes a bit of trial and error). The camera is easy to mount to the wall — we just hung it from a nail and it sits flush and straight against the wall, but you can also just stand it up. When our newborn baby was still in our room, I simply taped the bottom of the camera to our bed post with a command strip and that held up perfectly. The cable is a good length, too, so you have some flexibility as to where to mount it relative to an outlet. The white color fits well with the rest of our white furniture and light gray walls, so the camera blends in pretty well with the rest of the room. We actually had an issue when one of our cameras stopped moving down after about 6-7 months of owning it — all the other directions worked, but it could not move to angle further down. We contacted the manufacturer and they sent us a new one — great customer service. Both cameras still going strong (both the original one that came with the monitor and the replacement one). Overall we really like this camera and monitor system.

The camera and monitor are easy to setup and use, and they work very well keeping an eye on things. I had a technical issue as well and had to call email customer support, and they were amazing with quick, friendly responses, but best of all, doing great work helping resolve my issue, so everything is good now. Definitely I recommend the camera and monitor because of the product quality and customer service!

We own a monitor and camera from Infant Optics. Both have worked perfect for over two years. We are very happy with the quality of the image, microphone function, speaker, battery life, and range of antenna signal. We decided to buy a second camera and had problems with it from the beginning. We contacted customer service and they quickly helped us troubleshoot the problem we were having. In the middle of trying to figure out what was going on with the camera, we had to move homes, the pandemic started, life got crazy and we lost track of the situation. After many months, we attempted to start using the camera again and the same problem we were having before continued, rendering the camera useless. We contacted Infant Optics, and they quickly picked up the situation right where we had left-off months ago. The company stood behind their product and provided a replacement camera. We received the replacement camera quickly and in perfect condition, and it works as well as our first camera. Incredible customer service! I strongly recommend this product.

I really love this camera. The night vision on it is great as this is what we see the most. During the day when the lights are on in my kids rooms the picture quality is really great it shows the colors of the crib sheets and other objects well. Having multiple children i love that there is a scan setting and every 10 seconds or so it switches rooms thus allowing overnight observation of all rooms. It does have the talk back feature which can be utilized but we do not very often unless we are playing around. we have not tried out the different lenses but will shortly be switching out to the wide view lens. Overall we LOVE this camera, definitely worth the money. it also does not run off of wifi which means it can’t be hacked (bug plus for us) and the battery life has on average lasted 6-8 hours or so (this is hard to say as im not always super close when it dies) the volume can also be turned up fairly loud. We really love the infant optics products. Another added bonus to all infant optics products is their customer service is out of this world amazing! My parent unit quit working and they replaced and had the new unit to me within 2 days of shipping the old one. They are very friendly and even after receiving the new parent unit they ensured to email me to check that everything was working appropriately and I didn’t have any dither needs (this was awesome)! I will continue to buy their products and I am constantly recommending them to friends!

I would highly recommend this product to any of my friends and family. The camera and monitor is extremely easy to install and very user friendly. I just recently added an additional camera and it was very simple to set up. Their customer service is also exceptional and very efficient! I needed a new charger cable for my second camera and got a replacement within a few days. I was blown away with how easy they made it to contact them and resolve my issue. I highly recommend this baby monitor.

This camera was perfect for our first kid! However, it’s not ideal for two kids. We bought the extra camera, and connecting to the monitor was very easy. The part that I don’t like is the “scan” feature which is supposed to go back and forth between the kids room and it does just that but not all the time. I’ll set it on scan when I put our kids to bed, and an hour later it will stop scanning and just stay on whichever room it was on. I found this out the hard way when I couldn’t hear my new baby crying cause the “scan” was stuck on my toddlers room. It will still say it’s in scan, but it’s not scanning. So before I go to bed I have to just put it on the babies room. Thankfully 99% of the time my toddler sleeps through the night. It’s annoying that it doesn’t scan all the time. If I would have know this I would of bought a split screen monitor system.

I have been very satisfied with my infant optics monitor and camera, as well as the add on camera. I love that the cameras move to see the entire room, and that you can use multiple cameras on the same monitor. I have not seen an equivalent product with a similar price point. I recently had a sudden issue with my monitor (after having no issues for almost 2 years) and received excellent and prompt customer service. Infant Optics sent me a new monitor, even though my monitor was technically outside the 1 year warranty period. I highly recommend this monitor and it’s add on cameras as a low cost monitor with a variety of desirable features.

Works great. We bought the original system 3 years ago for my son. Was a little worried this camera wouldnt connect but decided to try rather than buy a whole new system. Great news, it connected!

We have used the Infant Optics DXR-8 for over 2 years. The image is great, including in darkness. We started having trouble with the monitor holding a charge a few months after using it. Then the monitor was making clicking sounds. After contacting customer support, they were able to walk me through readjusting the monitor battery. Since then, the monitor has held a charge fine. Also, after much support, it was determined that my camera was the source of the clicking that we were hearing from the monitor. Customer support was great! Even though I was about 2 years past my warranty, they replaced my camera, so it is no longer making the clicking sound. They went the extra mile to keep me as a customer, and I greatly appreciated that level of care.

This baby monitor is hands down, much better than the Motorola camera I had prior, which cost nearly twice as much. Pros: -Amazing night vision, the photo attached is in a almost pitch black room yet I can still see my baby clearly. -Ability to add a wide angle lens, I like to use this one for the playroom so I can see more. -The zoom function also has really good clarity if you want to get a closer look at something. -The battery is SO GOOD. I have had this thing for over a year now and the battery still lasts hours just like the first time I had it. It can go a good 8-10 hours without being plugged in if you dont have the screen on. -Easily add additional cameras, then you can have it continually scan through the various screens or just choose the one you want to stay on I cant really think of any cons for this monitor. I had an issue with one of my cameras after it was dropped and had to deal with their customer service and they were very responsive and helpful with the issue. I also think theres a lot to be said for buying a monitor from a company whose sole focus is baby monitors and not other products. This really is top notch and if youre thinking about buying one just go for it, you wont be disappointed.
