> 3 dayYou can download books for free from overdrive. Sign up is free and instant, you can even sign up for libraries in other states then download books for free. If you know your way with computers you can convert your overdrive books to epub and save them forever. Otherwise you can use google to search and download almost any ebook you can imagine for free. I have hundreds of books on my Kobo and didnt spend a dime. Fully compatible with Linux too (calibre) PS: Make sure to get the cover that puts the screen to sleep when you close it.

> 3 dayThe kobo doesn’t allow you to download other apps that have books on it. It does however let you borrow books from the library if you make an overdrive account. It is lighter than most eReaders. The screen is clear and can adjust the brightness. Not a bad eReader just wish it had more to offer.

> 3 dayAs much as I loathe Amazon, I couldn’t handle this over the Kindle Oasis. The body felt super cheap; page turn buttons were flimsy. The screen constantly had ghosting from the previous page. The only plus to this device was USB-C charging.

> 3 dayI have a 2014 Kindle Paperwhite, which still works and looks amazing, but wanted a new E-reader with all the new features. So I order a few new ones and spent a whole week scrutinizing the new Kindle Paperwhite, the Kindle Oasis and this Kobo Libra 2, and each time I kept coming back to the Kobo as my choice for e-reading. The New Kindle Paperwhite I eliminated almost immediately, the contrast is just too poor to me, sure the screen is bright, but the letters are so dull and faded looking. The Kindle Oasis is still, in my opinion, the best Kindle E-reader. The auto brightness works great, and man can the screen get bright white, and the letter contrast is better than the Kindle Paperwhite. if I didn’t have the Kobo to compare, I would have stayed with this model. Still lacks some of my favourite features that Kobo has. I also find the Kindle software clunky and requires too many steps to make simple changes. Now onto the Kobo, it doesn’t have auto brightness, but it does have auto Natural Light, which works fantastic. Really don’t need auto brightness, with one finger you can increase or decrease the brightness by swiping on the left side of the screen. Great auto rotation feature that works for landscape mode too. With the Oasis you must go into the menus to select landscape mode, a big pain. Pluses for Kobo: The new flared edge is perfect and the soft back makes is very comfortable to hold Auto natural light adjustment One finger brightness control Auto rotation in all aspects Battery life is stellar Screen background colour is slightly off white, with natural light off, I find it easy on the eyes Software is very intuitive and fast Turns on really fast and in one step (Both Kindles turn on slowly and then you have to swipe the screen) Software feature set overall is better, page in book and pages left in chapter on screen Now onto the biggest plus for me and what should be the most important, the clarity, crispness, and contrast of the letters. This Kobo is really crisp and clear, and the background colour is a perfect shade of white to enhance the reading experience. On both Kindle units the screen is just really bright white and the letters/words suffer from lower contrast Update: I find Kobo customer service to be lacking, they are not accommodating like Amazon. Another thing to considered, if you share your books with a family member, note that you cannot with Kobo.

> 3 dayFirst off, lets say that this is a great ereader that I actually liked it better than Kindle Oasis 10th generation. Some people criticized its plastic shell, but I actually liked it. I think the plastics made it lightweight, easy to hold, and not metal-cold in winter. Battery was good, letters were sharp, and I enjoyed reading at night with this device in hand. But I returned it. Reason 1: Lack of synchronization. Although Kobo Libra 2, as a standalone ereader, is great, it does not sync well with the PC app. I did not test whether it syncs with an iPad Kobo app, but google tells me that it only syncs with books purchased from kobo website. Kindle, google play book, apple books, all beats Kobo in this essential function. Reason 2: lack of accessories. Along with Kobo Libra 2, I bought a Kobo origami case. The case was great, worked as intended, but it added a significant weight to the device, made it not very pleasant with the floppy back. I returned it. I prefer a sleeve case, a pouch, so when I read it can be held in my hands, and when I dont read it can be protected. Amazon is filled with pouch/sleeve cases for Kindle/paperwhite/oasis, and all kinds of ipads. None fit the kobo snugly. They were too big, too small, or too rectangular, etc.

> 3 dayI have been using this for quite a few months now and I love it! Comfortable to hold. Easy to adjust font and font size. Amazing battery life. I also bought the recommended cover which is very nice. I use the foldable cover as a stand to read hands free while eating breakfast. I would also recommend that.

> 3 dayUPDATE: The device’s battery life is quite poor, and it gets more and more annoying the more I use it. I get 4-5 days of battery with a few hours of reading a day. It also freezes and reboots very frequently, especially when changing the light settings. Nigh unusable. Get the Kindle Paperwhite 5 instead; its battery lasts for months (I got 50 days), not 5 days. This is the best-looking and best-designed e-reader available today, at least in the US market. It looks best in the white color. It’s extremely easy to hold that makes you forget its weight, the back pattern is beautiful, and the screen? The screen is the crispest e-ink that I’ve ever seen. Kobo’s official case is also really, really high quality and well worth the $40; it may not seem like it, but once you try all the third party cases and all cases for the Kindle too, you’ll come to the same conclusion. Unfortunately, the battery life on this is quite poor. And the difference was enough for me to return this and keep the Kindle Paperwhite 5. Despite its beauty, I wish it had a larger battery, a more battery-efficient CPU/operating system, and more stable components. I still regret it sometimes in my heart, but the battery life is worse enough to make that decision. Other reviewers clearly haven’t tried using this long term vs the Kindle, but I have both, and have used them for months. I want to like the Kobo. I in fact can’t help but like it. It’s just better in every single way than the Kindle… except performance. I’m getting 3x the battery life on the Kindle. This Kobo eats about 3–4% per hour of reading, while the Kindle eats only 1%. While sleeping, this Kobo uses 0.06% battery per hour, while the Kindle uses just 0.01–0.02%. So about 300% better battery performance from the Kindle. The Kobo also crashes and reboots every now and then. I’m told it has a very unstable system kernel. Again, this is all a huge shame. The Libra 2 has the best screen on the market. Its contrast and readability are unmatched. It displays images perfectly. The body of the Libra 2 is very comfortable to hold and looks incredibly beautiful. The buttons are a nice bonus and look a lot nicer than on the Libra 1. The official case is beautiful and works well as a stand. For me, however, these don’t make up for the 3x worse battery life compared to the Kindle Paperwhite 5 (2021).

31-03-2025I really love using my Kobo! I had previously purchased a Kobo device and decided to return it and spring for the Kindle Oasis instead. I decided this year to make better use of my public library and added this Kobo to my devices for the Overdrive integration. Apart from Kindle exclusive titles, all books I search for are available through the Kobo store and priced the same as Kindle. Yes, this device feels more cheaply made than my Oasis due to the plastic. No, the battery life isnt quite as good as my Oasis and other Kindle products win in that category by a long shot. It isnt inconvenient to keep charged though and this is still a great reader! Page turn buttons and USB-C are quickly becoming my deal-breaker features. Since Amazon has yet to release a Kindle with that combination this may become my primary device and I would certainly consider Kobos more expensive flagship models in the future.

04-04-2025The Libra 2 hits a sweet spot in Kobos development path of incremental hardware upgrades from the already outstanding Aura HD. It has a perfect size and form factor, is lighter, and has a glorious screen. Except for some unneeded gimmicks on the home screen, the software works just right. Sideloading is straightforward and uncompromised. With how much I love reading, I would gladly pay for the best product on the market at any price point. This is the one.
