I’m having a difficult time making the software work. I need to be able to load the VHS video to my MacBook Pro, which I was able to do. However I have two problems, when I run the video on my computer the movie plays with a Play Directive in the upper left part of the screen that says play with some kind of icon. Also I’m unable to transfer the video to a DVD. I assumed when the software says Roxio easy VHS to DVD it means I can transfer the video from my computer to a dvd.

This product does what it says. I had a little trouble getting the sound to work and record, but I called Roxio tech support and they helped me get it working within about 15 minutes. I have a MacBook Air with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.

Not sure if it is this device or my old VHS recorder, but when there is a glitch in the VHS tape the rest of the conversion is not synced (audio and video is off). Other than that...I have been able to recover ALL my old VHS and 8mm anolog tapes and convert them to digital.

My experience is the video doesn’t stay synchronized when playing it back.

I found a bunch of old tapes and wanted to get them into a digital format. I looked up this product, and although I saw a lot of bad reviews for it not working on OSX 10.6, I saw a few others said it worked fine. I have 10.7, which I just upgraded a little while ago from 10.5, and it works fine. I plugged in the software, plugged in the cables and updated anything that needed to be updated and boom its there. Ive already ripped 3 VHS tapes onto my Mac. You just have to let it play as its recording. Which is good if you want to watch the video again right before you start editing it. You can also mute the audio so you can continue facebooking or whatever it is you kids do.

I had OLD VHS home movies I needed preserved it paid for itself. Although it is pricey there isnt much out there that is easy to use. I bought it for my parents to do there own conversion not very tech savvy so this saved me some time in having to do it myself and they had no problem using it.

After I got everything connected and running, it looked like everything was working well and then as set up was just starting I got an error message saying, “unknown error”. I don’t know if I should return this product or take the time to reconnect everything again. I’m very disappointed because I bought it to copy one very important VHS tape I don’t want to lose.

This works really well, but then it stops working at all and you have to reinstall it, or at least unplug it, then plug it in and get it working again. A good price, considering I only have a limited number of VHS videos to convert into a digital format. The quality of the tapes themselves is pretty bad, but I guess thats due to age. Most of the tapes Im converting have only been watched a couple of times then stored. It would be great if there was a way to maximise the quality and convert them to a widescreen format but you cant have it all. However, it does the job as well as can be expected.

YAY!!! We can finally enjoy our favorite home movies easily again without having to dust off the VCR and pray it still works - ha! This software was quick and easy to install and use - didnt curse once! ;) Excellent product - why pay for a service when this is so easy? Update: taking it down to 4 stars - still a good product but I found that about once every 5 tapes or so the sound will cut out partway though and you have to redo. VCR head cleaner helps. I have to run one after about every other tape or I really have trouble.

I bought this package to rip some old home movies from VHS to my Macbook Pro. The experience you have when using this product is rather mixed. PROS: It does what it says it will, easy install, easy process CONS: very few options, VERY unreliable connection If you need to convert VHS to digital or DVD this prodect is decent. Its not great but it will get the job done. The setup is fast and its a fairly straight forward process. When you install the disc it will install both Easy VHS to DVD and Toast Basic. You can use Toast if you want or just import into iMovie. If they wanted to you to use Toast youd think they would have included the premium version. The version they give you functions but its also full of the upgrade reminders which drives me crazy. Importing into iMovie is very easy. Its time consuming (even on a quad core processor with 8gb of RAM) but it does transition smoothly. The size of the file on the best setting is very large. Its surprising because when you are done youd think you created a HD file. Its really that big. If space is an issue avoid the high quality setting. The biggest issue with this product is the connection. At first the video didnt show up so I unplugged and replugged everything. Next the sound didnt come accross so I unplugged and replugged everything. Then the sound came through but the video went out. After a few times everything magically worked. Not a fun experience. Overall its an ok product that will not amaze you but it will get the job done. The connectivity is a bummer and more options would be nice too.
