Western Digital 500GB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280, 3D NAND, Up to 2,400 MB/s - WDS500G2B0C

Bought a used Surface Pro 4 on eBay with a bad drive. Installed this SSD and installed W10 Pro and it’s working great. WD claims 2,400MB/s read and 1,750MB/s write for the 500GB SN550 model. Must be something with the SP4 slowing it down. Maybe it’s not utilizing PCIe Gen3 as this drive is rated for. Still good speeds though. Especially for what the SP4 is being used for, web browsing, email and some streaming. It’s great that it comes with a 5 yr warranty. That’s reassuring.

In my workflow I import upwards of 20,000 PNG files into Premiere Pro video editor at one time rather often. this takes a considerable while each time no matter how fast the SSD is... I can compare this WD drive against is a 7200 hard drive and the Samsung 970 Evo. In short, this WD drive takes maybe 10% longer than my 970 Evo but at half the price. these two drives arent currently split that much in price but Id still purchase the WD over the 970 Evo based on current prices.

Happy I stayed with Western Digital, they did me well through the HDD era and it doesnt look like theyre going to let me down anytime soon.

Excellent speeds but with speed comes heat naturally be sure you give this a heat sink even a stock motherboard heatsink helps.

Worked great super easy to install very small the only thing I didn’t love was the matte blue cover sticker design woulda been nice if it had been a more stylized or understated label. This is only a big deal if ur trying to go for maximum aesthetic appeal and if that’s the case there are many other options that prioritize this. Overall for the price the performance is more than enough to give this 2 thumbs up
