> 3 dayI absolutely loved this projector when it was new. It was an upgrade from the BenQ W1070. The picture quality was top notch, bright, and crisp. The installation was simple as it worked great with the ceiling mount I already had installed. I removed the W1070 and slipped the HT3550 right into place. The love affair is quickly coming to an end though as the pixels are dropping like flies. It started with one off to the side and I was okay with that. Then a second died, then a third, forth.... Its up to six now and its becoming unbearable especially when its a really dark scene in whatever Im watching. For the price of this item, I would expect it to last a longer than it has.

> 3 dayUpgrading from my Epson 3010 that I bought new many years ago which has served me well. But as far as picture quality goes this BenQ ht3550 blows it away! Well worth the upgrade I have a feeling this is going to be very hard to beat for the money. I did however notice one issue where every time I shut the projector off the image flips from being bottom-mounted to top mount, however it is USB updatable so Im sure the issue will get resolved soon.

Greater than one weekWhen the price point of 4K projectors started to become more reasonable it was time to upgrade my projector. I checked a few places to see if any local retailers had a demo of the new lower price 4K projectors. It was no surprise you could only see new high end native 4K projectors. They looked good as they should starting at $7995. The collective mesage from all the salesguys was how disappointed I would be with the inferior picture provided by one of those bit-shifting projectors. I did some research and chose the BenQ HT3550 to replace my 1080p projector. The picture is amazing. I can see why you are not going to find this in a demo room next to the high end models - they may never sell another one. There are technical differences that a videophile would notice, but for the average user I will be happy to keep the over $6k price difference in the bank. The setup was a breeze and so far no issues to report. The only niggle was the table in the instructions for determining the mounting position for my screen size was provided in millimeters. I am very pleased with my purchase. Its a significant jump in picture quality over the Panasonic PT-AE2000U I replaced. Its also brighter, quiter, and generates less heat.

Greater than one weekI really wanted to love this projector (ordered by my wife from Projector People). Really wish I could have seen the HDR in action, rather than the blocky, yellow-cast images (clearly not working right). After much research, I am inclined to believe my HDR problems were related to the 1.0.3 firmware (AVSForums had mentions of this problem). Ill never know for certain because I was also unable to update either of the projectors I received, neither the original, nor the replacement sent by BenQ. This is perhaps a problem with my laptop? I tried EVERYTHING. Either way, a projector should work properly out of the box; that falls on BenQ. HDR aside, the 4K image is sharp and smooth. SDR colors are rich and accurate. The PJ isnt super bright, but the blacks easily smoke my old W1070 (dark movies look way better). Alas, the HDR problems are deal-breaker. If I could have fixed it, I would have kept it. BenQ was unresponsive when I said I needed help. So stay tuned for my upcoming review of an Epson 5050UB.

> 3 dayWe rarely use the projector, only taking it out for special occasions, and now half the screen is showing vertical lines, only 80 hours of lamp life used, but outside of 3 year warranty period. Surprised by the positive reviews, would not recommend.

> 3 dayProjector works great, but the Android TV is nothing but trouble. No Netflix, Hulu lags, it has trouble connecting, and a pain to set up. Youre better off getting a Chromecast. Plus its cheaper than the $100 upgrade. Android TV is a BenQ HDMI dongle with Chromecast on it. It plugs in to the inside (a hidden third HDMI port) and is powered on when the projector powers on. If you were to buy the new Chromecast it would work just the same except youd have to use an outside HDMI port. Customer service on the BenQ website is slow and they offer no solutions. They went right to replacing under warranty which takes weeks unless they put a hold on you card for quick shipment. The guy didnt suggest updating the firmware or projector which was pretty easy, but could also be hard for some.

Greater than one weekI purchased the BenQ HT3550 4K Home Theater Projector for this Christmas 2019, so far everything seems great in SDR format but when I use HDR the picture is a dark blue, everything is a shade of blue, I tried to make changes during but it doesn’t seem to change it much, setting different lamp brightness, picture modes and using the brightness/contrast as well as changing the Cinema settings pretty much have no effect, it remains blue… 12/27/2019 Currently I am awaiting a response from BenQ, and depending on the answer I will revise my rating, I wish I could give this 5 stars, I owned a previous BenQ projector (1080p) and it was fantastic! 12/29/2019 Update: Flashed to the newest firmware and reset all settings, I am happy to say the blue HDR has been corrected, and the picture is wonderful, but when disabling the pixel motion enhancer the fan is extremely loud with what sounds like an internal vibration noise. I will be returning this projector for another like unit in hopes that it was a defect or damaged in shipping...

Greater than one weekI’ve had this projector for a few months, and when playing HDR content HDR will frequently be split screen right down the center. Basically one side will be HDR and the other side will not. I have to stop the content and restart it in order for it to work correctly. There is a loud click as the HDR turns itself off and another as it turns on again. It is connected to a Sony receiver and an Nvidia Shield, but also happens when playing HDR content on PS4. Ive emailed support lets see what they say. Update: BenQ replaced with an RMA, but now the replacement is showing the same signs, and last night one of the HDMI ports stopped working. Update 2: I got a hold of support and they sent me another one. Heres hoping this is the last one. At this point I cant recommended this model and BenQ is super hard to get a hold of.

> 3 dayI have had a BenQ projector (W1070) for five years. When I heard that a 4k direct replacement was coming (HT3550), I placed a pre-order as soon as available. I just received and installed today. First test was the 4k BumbleBee video. Amazing clarity and brightness with very little adjustment necessary. The dynamic iris and HDR make a significant impact on movie presentation. Second test was HD content with Pens vs Islanders first round hockey playoffs great picture, even with fast paced camera panning. So far this HT3550 is everything the W1070 was when I first purchased, but with the added 4k and dynamic Iris and HDR. Very pleased with initial experience. Highly recommend.
