On paper, this is a great projector. Reviewed, it is a great projector. As others have stated, it hits all of the right notes. Im not sure I can say anything more than what has already been said. I really wanted to like this projector. The fan noise was a deal breaker for me. It is way too loud and distracts from the quiet scenes. Turn it to Eco and now a already struggling to be bright enough projector just becomes too dim.

We were so excited to have a family movie night. The projector does an amazing job. Then it wouldnt stay on. Kept shutting off. Flashing temp? Its Oregon and september so we have 55 degree nights and its not remotely hot. Tech support was helpful but pointless. Telling me to try this and that. Nothing worked. Im hoping we just got a lemon. Im returning it and if the next one does well Ill change my review.

Im very pleased. I watched a few video reviews before purchasing this projector and I like it even better than the reviewers did. To my eyes the lamp brightness is more than adequate for a dark room even when using the wide color gamut. If youre a gamer, the input lag is only going to be a problem if youre playing competitive multiplayer or if you play a lot of twitchy reflex games where every millisecond counts. I was playing GTA5 (by myself) last night and I didnt notice the lag while playing. 4k hdr movies with wide color gamut turned on are beautiful, I watched The Revenant recently and all those outdoor scenes really popped.

Major set back is 3D. Yes it supports 3D but if you have ripped all your blue Ray to USB drive and have it in half SBS, you cant play it using media reader as the aspect ratio cannot be adjusted. If you have roku and use roku media reader, the projector wont detect 3D content and the button will be grayed out and no way to turn it on. If you try from remote - direct 3D, it will switch back to 2D and its a big no go. Benq cheap projectors allow you to use 3D manually but this one work. Have to return as its no go for me. Will look for laser projector at this price point.

This is my fourth projector in 10yrs. Recently had the Epson 5040UB and decided to go with Benqs HT3550 DLP 4K (1080 × 4), over Epsons new 5050UB claimed 4K which actually only displays 2k (1080 x 2) (read Epsons fine print). The HT3550 is also about half the price. The HT3550 is so much sharper than my old 5040UB, its like seeing 4k for the first time. Due to having light colored walls in my light controlled theater, I really dont see a noticeable difference in the claimed contrast between the two. This project is not advertised as a bright room projector and will not be suitable for that environment. With todays projectors in the sub $3000 range, theres a trade off of either having deep rich true theater like colors, or a super bright picture. I prefer I true to form picture in a light controlled room.

I just received this projector yesterday and am incredibly disappointed in the whole user experience as well as all the bugs. For a $1500 projector I expected something way more functional than the Epson my housemates bought for $800. Something seems to be wrong with the HDR mode as sometimes the entire image looks like it has a green overlay on it (EDIT: I fixed this with a software update). Additionally, when HDR mode is on something inside the projector makes a horrible grinding/buzzing sound, like old computer sounds from 15 years ago. The green overlay isn’t always there and the buzzing sound isn’t as well, so there has to be some issue with it. Edit: here is a link to a video of the sound coming from the projector. https://youtu.be/LHJC_qN9Ils Does not play sound from my Sony Blu-Ray player for some reason even though my housemates projector has no problem. Input switching is incredibly slow as are changing some other settings. Sometimes I’ll switch back to my AppleTV 4K and the projector won’t even recognize the input, so I have to restart the projector (which takes five minutes) just to get the AppleTV to show up. I reached out to BenQ yesterday and am waiting to hear back so I can update this review. But if you’re stuck at home right now and are looking for a projector, don’t get this one because it’s not worth the hassle, even without the bugs it’s still a pain in the butt. EDIT: it has been almost a week and I have received no response from BenQ. The image quality is nice, but the whole experience so far has been way too frustrating for something I was so excited to get. Now I feel like a sucker for spending this much money on something that should have been way better. Why does it say “stream Netflix and Prime”? There is no smart TV interface, it’s just saying you can plug in a streaming device through the input. So with that statement it’s clear every statement they make about this projector is just meaningless marketing hype. I expected so much better from BenQ.

I own a BenQ projector that I bought 6-7 years back which still works great. Decided to upgrade to a 4K projector and chose this. The picture quality was Amazing. It was a natural progression from 1080P to 4K - till it lasted. As some have observed, the projector stopped working after a few movies. Except for the Green power light blinking and turning on, the projector is basically dead. No sound (of the fan), no light. Hope BenQ finds the issue and fixes it so future customers dont have to go through this...

Great picture and quality, but set up can be a little tricky! Ensure you read instruction regardless of how familiar you are with A/V.

This unit works great! I repainted my wall with Screen paint I received from Home Depot and the picture quality is comparable to my LG OLED TV. Cant be happier with this purchase!!
