> 3 dayWell Ive had this for 2 or 3 weeks now. I been messing around with it on a 100 matte white 1.0 gain screen, 120 on a beige wall, 92 on .9 ALR screen. Image out of the box is amazing 4k HDR with disc or 4k scream from Apple TV 4k. Coming from 1080p projector definitely can go back. And having a 55 LG OLED in my living room spoiled watching movies, but lacks immersive size and my full Dolby Atmos setup. So this definitely the next step, with the BenQ HT3550 I still get my 1080p Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and now 4k Blu-ray with HDR, while keep my DOLBY Atmos, DTSX, AURO 3D and now Imax Enhanced Audio setup. With a nice 1.13 throw allows me to go bigger screen and use and acoustic transparent screen now with out compromising my speaker placement now.

18-12-2024The picture doesn’t do it justice! The sharpness of the image and the sound is fantastic! We just plugged in our Roku and it was ready to play! We can’t turn the volume all the way up cause it’s too loud. It’s the perfect projector for our home theater room!

Greater than one weekGreat picture but I could not get over the loud fan. Where I sit with a decibel tester was 40. Late night when you turn the volume down all you hear is the fan. Would have given more stars but to loud. RETURNED :(

> 3 dayI’m coming from an Epson Home Cinema 3500. Had it for 4-5 years and ran into the “auto iris error” which seems to be somewhat common with some Epson models. I am looking to get it repaired, however I was hoping to take the opportunity to try out a different brand while I sent my Epson in for repair. After a lot of research and watching several video reviews, I settled on the Benq HT3550. This true 4K projector looked legit and everybody raved about it. I was very excited to give it a try. I’ve never experienced light leakage from a projector before but almost everybody talked about how it was an issue in the previous model, but Benq got it right with this one. I have to tell you, in my opinion this is a pretty big deal. Call me OCD if you want but to me there’s no reason for any projector to be putting out such a distracting light border. I included a picture but please know the image cannot capture the prevalence of the border. In person, it is extremely noticeable. I marked how far out the border goes with the yellow line in the picture. You can see it better without the image on the screen, but it looks like I simply need to keystone the image and zoom in to fit the screen, right? That’s why I included the image of the picture on the screen so that you could see the image fills the screen, keystone is great, but you still have the light leakage. To be fair, my wife says that it doesn’t bother her and when you are watching something on the screen, you don’t really notice the leakage as much. However, I do notice it and it really bothers me. Have a mentioned in the review yet that I’m a little bothered by this, ha! Sorry, I just can’t explain how people are overlooking this issue. The best explanation I have read is that all DLP projectors have a little light leakage and people sort of chalk it up to being something you deal with. Bottom line is it is a superb projector and image quality for the price...IF (and it’s a big IF) you are OK with a 6 to 8 inch light border around your screen. I’m not so it’s going back. It’s really unfortunate because I was really excited about the potential of this device.

> 3 dayOnly real dislike is that superimposed images and information, still or scrollng are jittery and it really annoys me. If is audition a 4k projector that does not do this then I will buy it if the price is not ridiculous. This may not be the fault of the 3550 but the broadcaster, that is to be determined.

> 3 dayThis Benq projector rocks! 3D is perfect - with a projection size of 120 inches is a total imersion - great experience - movies wich I found not so good now lock enhanced. I was wasting my time with a 3D TV a projector is the answer if you are a 3D enthusiast. 4K HDR with a dark room is fantastic - cinema at home! Although it is not meant for living room viewing I watched the Superbowl on it and even with some lights on it is perfect image. It has VIVID TV and BRIGHT mode to make it possible some living room experience. For me a perfect purchase.

Greater than one weekI would say if you get a good unit your golden if you dont make sure you can exchange it for a new one. Benq has great customer support and sent me out a new unit after my first one had issues. It is rather loud so youll probably want to set the bulb to eco mode. That aside for the money its hard to beat in the 4k realm. Big take away for me was it has more detail than the epson. Epson has better colors but its not great for 4k. Your better off saving some money and getting a nice 1080p projector over the 4k epsons. But if your rooms dark or a dedicated theater room this projector cant be beat for the price in the fake 4k market.

> 3 dayThis projector is simply fantastic. The image, design and feature set (zoom, lens shift, no light border etc) make this guy a winner. 4K films are simply incredible, blacks are inky black thanks to its dynamic iris, and HDR support truly makes for an excellent viewing experience. Great value for the money. The only thing I dont like about this exceptional projector is the optical output is only stereo. Not sure what Benq was thinking when this decision was made. Its seems silly to design such a fantastic machine, then limit it to Stereo output via its toslink port. I had to purchase a sound extractor device to strip the 5.1 sound from HDMI, and then pipe the sound from the device to my surround system. This was an inconvenience, and unnecessary expense, when Benq could have simply incorporated 5.1 Surround out of the toslink port. Wishful thinking I know, but hopefully a future firmware release will turn on surround sound from the optical port. Hopefully it is a firmware limitation....albeit quite unlikely. That is the only fault I have with the projector. I hope this review helps anyone contemplating this projector.
