I used the Smart Life App and under Electrician choose power Strip wifi. Alexa picked it right up and I can now easily turn the surge protector on or off via a schedule or voice.

The Chinese are probably spying on me but this is cheap and it works fine. I use the Smart Life - Smart Living app to control it. So far Ive purchased 2 of these, so far so good.

Not going to lie, bought these to use with heaters. Yes, you can use smart plugs for heaters if they don’t draw any more wattage than the smart plug is rated for. Safety measures for heaters are mainly carried out to make sure people don’t plug them into plugs/power strips that aren’t made to handle the load. I.e, you plug a 2000W space heater into a $5 power strip from the dollar store, you might blow up your house. The little heaters I’m using are a simple 1500W and being that these smart plugs are rated for 1800W max, they are doing just fine so far. I was a little nervous these being the first smart plugs I’ve used, but they were super easy to connect and I had no issues downloading the app to set up. Everything went smoothly and they couldn’t be easier to use. I love that the app actually tells you how much energy the plug is drawing while it is running a device and the app even records the usage for that day so that you can go back and look at how much power you used within a certain amount of time if curious. Especially in consideration of your power bill. I’m also crazy about the fact that I can turn these off from anywhere if I accidentally leave them on and that on super cold nights, I can turn them on 15-30 mins before I get home so that I’m nice and toasty once I get there without having wasted energy. There’s even a timer option for the forgetful person in all of us. I look for these to save me a ton of money this mild southern winter as it’ll keep me from running anything unless absolutely necessary. Two thumbs up. 11/30/2020 UPDATE!!!: After using these for a week or two, Ive had to come back and deduct two stars. They originally seemed to be a five star product, but Ive noticed an annoying flaw. They keep falling offline and I have to unplug and re plug them in to reset, as theres no way to do this from the app. This is particularly aggravating as one is located behind my bed and I have to pull it back to get to it. Once I do reset though, they seem to reconnect to my wifi just fine. Now this could have something to do with the fact that my internet is satellite based and not DSL, but I doubt it as I have no issues keeping my other devices connected to it. One falls offline more often than the other, but theyve both done it. Either way, if I were to choose to buy some, I can say without a doubt it wouldnt be this brand. And unfortunately, this means I cant recommend them. 1/18/2021 Update Turns out, it actually was the Belkin router I was using. I ditched the router and set them up on my network that solely uses my Exede router and have not had any problems since with disconnection or otherwise. As a sidenote, I also stopped using them with my space heater because Id rather be safe than sorry and its just always a good idea to plug a heater directly into a receptacle rather than an extension of any sort. Anywhoozle, bumped them back up to 5 stars because theyre doing what theyre supposed to do quite well!

My electric bill is going up, and up. Most likely thanks to Covid and stay at home. But I needed to take charge of the situation and identify if anything can be done to bring it under control. Step one was to identify the big power hogs. Then I’ll move to the clusters – power strips with lots of items hooked up to. This smart plug is designed very well. It does not cover any part of the adjacent plug on the wall, going sideways instead of a cheaper solution – Round. Adding to SmartLife app was a breeze. Usually I do it in an outlet convenient to me, and after I add it, I unplug and then unplug the select appliance (a Fridge to begin with), plug the smart plug then plug the appliance in. BTW, once you add the plug to SmartLife, Alexa will automatically add it as well. No need for any extra work. In SmartLife one goes to “ELECTRICAL” (bottom of the plug screen) and he’ll see the total power consumption for the period. In my case it crosses 2 KWh per day. This should help me assess if I can justify replacing my 18 years old fridge. Hopefully this review helps people trying to understand and solve their high electric bills.
