Adhesive is very good on dry wood. Don’t expect it to stick to pressure treated lumber that is still wet.

This product is excellent for protecting the would underneath our decking boards. But be prepared to get sticky hands

I have used a few of these types of products and I found this product to stick better than most. Some of the products I have found start to come off in a few days and you need to staple them down and its a bit annoying. I found this product just stayed put and it actually merged with the wood.... You almost cant get it off. It also looks like it would seal around your screw holes well. I also liked that it just fits the top of the joist. I have tried going with a wider product and folding it over which I think would be better protection but at the same time it takes longer to install. This width was really quick to install which I liked.

My original intention for this was as a moisture barrier between my new exterior deck stairway stringers and the Trex deck boards I also used on my stairs, and I discovered another bonus in the process. On some of the other deck joists where I used a copper brown wood preservative on the cut surfaces, and where those surfaces directly contacted the underside of the Trex composite boards, the wood preservative leached up into the boards and significantly discolored them! Wherever I used this tape, that leaching and discoloration did not occur. Its a bit pricey, but not a bad idea to use on top of all joists and stringers!

Ive seen a number of questions and comments about the tapes specs, so here goes. THICKNESS: using a micrometer, the thickness of the tape + backing paper is 0.023 thick, and the paper backing is 0.002 thick, which means that THE TAPE ITSELF IS 0.021 THICK. The butyl tape seems to be of good quality but I cant tell you how long it will last when exposed to the elements. Is it gooey? Yes. I have no way to measure gooey, but I had occasion to put some of it down on a girder, then two weeks later I changed my mind about the joists that would go over it. I then removed the tape and thought you might like to see what it looks like as you peel the tape away. See photos. When the tape came off, it left a lot of this glue on the wood. I used the removed tape as a way to lift off the goo, much as one wraps Scotch tape around your hand, sticky side out, and then use it as a lint brush. Thats what I did except I didnt wrap the discarded tape around my hand ... too messy. I eventually got most of the glue off of the wood, but there is still a bit left. I can therefore attest to the fact that THIS STUFF IS GOOEY and will probably do a good job of preventing moisture from getting past it and into the wood that it protects, which is its main job.

Used this to cover the 2x8 beams under a deck I was building. Very nicely thick and super sticky! Works perfectly to protect the wood. Highly recommend!

The tape sticks pretty well. Be sure your surface is totally free of debris, coatings that will not allow it to adhere or it wont. It is adequately thick so it will be pretty durable. It is wide enough to comfortably cover a 2x. I just applied it to my project so now Ill wait and see if it endures.

    Greater than one week

A much thinner product versus several others that are on the market for Use, One and done send it back In price comparison this is not a good buy.

So used this for my first deck project in a long while. I’ve seen a lot of people using these and want to try it out. Seems for the couple bucks why not make it last longer. Obv I can’t give a did it work review. But here are my thoughts….. Install was not to hard. Very sticky so cloth gloves helped. Two people really makes a job go fast. We rolled all our tape as recommended by zip tape but this manufacturer does not suggest it. If you messed up you could pull back and fix. We used it in really hot weather so I think that made install easy. The small rolls had not trouble with install or the paper. The big roll had troubles with the paper backing. I like seeing the black in the joist spacing. Other than that it seems to be s good idea to protect the structure. I’d give it a good review but can’t give 4 or 5 star since ultimately you want to review performance as well.
