This is a great product with the correct salinity. This is an absolute necessity if you have hermit crabs. We did not know this was necessary in our tank and our crabs went several months without it. We added it to their sand/substrate and put a dish of it in their tank. The substrate needs to be approximately 6 to 8 inches deep (or 3 to 4 times the height of your largest crabs shell) and should be Sandcastle consistency. We added approximately 1 gallon of salt water to accomplish this. The crabs spent about one week exploring the new sand and soaking in the salt water. Then they finally tunneled down for their first molt. This probably saved their lives. If hermit crabs cannot molt, they cannot survive. For more information on this I recommend a website called hermitcrabpatch.com. The information the pet stores give and the information thats generally available is completely wrong and is very unhealthy and often fatal for hermit crabs I highly recommend this product to anyone with hermit crabs.

Ive been a saltwater hobbyist (45 gallon) for almost 10 years now and since the very beginning have been using this brand of salt with no problems at all. The pricing is always competitive compared to other name brands but the salt to me is always the same no matter which brand you go with. To mix this salt I use R/O water in a glass jar, pour in the salt and then fill with water. I shake it for a few seconds and let it sit till the salt dissolves. When the salt dissolves I start pouring slowly into the tank and measuring the salt amount with my meter. Other brand name salts that compare to this one are smaller grained and dissolve faster but for me, I have no issue waiting and Ive noticed that on occasion over the years passed that if I do get impatient and pour some undissolved salt into the tank it doesnt seem to harm the fish or coral- some salts are not recommended to pour directly into the tank without dissolving first like I mention above in a glass jar with R/O water. Overall I favor this brand and have used it for so many years that switching now seems pointless. Id recommend to others as Ive had no problems with this product over the years.

Its not just for my fish tank. Its NOT marketed as food grade. Instant Ocean Sea Salt MSDS reads nearly identical to Morton Sea Salt MSDS. Instant Ocean taste better and cost less. Cons; no anti-clumping chemicals (also a Pro - no chemicals) so it hardens on wet days - I put dry rice in my shaker.

I use this brand for the value. I’ve never had an issue with my saltwater tanks using this brand. Only problem I’ve noticed is that it takes a little more than what is recommended. I use for small batches of water, usually 5 gallons. I usually have to add about an extra cup to it to get salinity correct. Otherwise no issues. And the price is much better than the other brands. Just make sure you check the salinity before adding to aquarium.

Always gives me the best results when doing water changes compared to other brands. Highly recommend.

This is a great salt. It dissolves quickly and gives my tank the right ph. My clown loves it. I have a 10g and these bags last for about 6 months (I do a 20% water change every week). Make sure to seal and keep airtight once open because it will clump together. It will still dissolve this way but perhaps less easily. The packaging recommends 1/2 cup per gallon to achieve 1.022 salinity. This is pretty on point.

Instant Ocean Sea Salt is my go-to aquarium marine salt for my brackish opae`ula (red Hawaiian volcano shrimp) tank, brine shrimp cultures and marine algal cultures. Ive never had a single issue with this salt. Its perfectly formulated and it has a lower total heavy metal percentage than most other aquarium marine salts on the market, including Reef Crystals (though all are safe when used as directed). It mixes very quickly, no CO2 injection required just an airstone or a filter agitating the water. If youre in the market for a low-cost, high-quality aquarium marine salt then Instant Ocean is a fantastic choice.
