Liquitex Professional Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 3.78L (128-oz), Clear

I have tried a few different gessos, and sometimes its hard to find a good intermediate between thickness and opacity. This gesso is relatively thin while still being really opaque. I most recently used it to prep stretched fabric for acrylic paint and it worked really well, especially against the basics version (which had a yellower tint and required more layers). Not only is this really good for surface prep, but I also like to mix it with my lower quality acrylics to make it more opaque or mattify it. Great product that never lets me down!

Im not sure if this is the right product but this program will not let me cancel this post... So this post is for both regular and super heavy body gesso. The product I got was super heavy body gesso by Liquitex but Ive used both. This product (and regular gesso) was excellent, and is great for scraping on extra layers onto purchased stretched canvases, or also making textures.

Works great with posca markers. I put on two things layers, but I think one would be sufficient too. Nice grit and doesnt wear down the nibs like painting directly on the canvas would.

What can I say? It works great, just like it should. Easy to brush on. Dries perfect.

This stuff is NOT clear, despite the name. Its milky white when dry, but it is more transparent than the usual opaque white gesso. Thats about all you can say for it. It does let some of the ground show through, sort of a translucent effect at best. Not what I was seeking at all. If you want to mix a colorant into this gesso, as Ive seen from Youtube videos, it will probably not tint it out the way that the usual white gesso would. So maybe thats its best use.

I will not buy this item again. The lid was NOT closed at all and leaked all over the plastic and the box. What kind of manufacturer sells products that need to be sealed send them out unsealed.

Traditional gesso always seemed to crack for me, no matter what I did. So far, this has been crack-free. I work on canvas.) For this alone, its worth five stars in my book. Good coverage and nice white surface as well.
