> 3 dayDo you own dogs or husband and kids bringing in dirt and grass clippings. This is the vac you need. Great to do a quick brag of dirt grass and tumble weed/dust bunnies of dog hair under chairs under end tables corners in every room where they migrate and try and hide but not from my marital This little bit of a thing is easy to grab sucks up a lot of dirt on hardwood linoleum and area rugs. I have one at home one at the vacation house and thinking of buying a third one for the upstairs bathroom for human hair and lint. Love this. My two Aussies shed constantly. This beats swiffer dusters, a broom or any other vacuum I’ve used and I’ve tried several on the market. Buy this thing easy to use empty and charge. LOVE it. Still not convinced. My husband grabs it and uses it too! It’s quick to charge also so it’s always ready to use.

> 3 daySame cracks as everyone else. Design flaw. Uneven force will be applied to this spot when connecting and using daily. The crack WILL happen eventually to each and every unit; whether it will break catastrophically will vary. I did the same thing as AJ, one of the reviewers here by cutting off the bottom of a 30mm A-10 Warthog shot glass and used the tube as reinforcement. I had 6 of those shot glasses lying around so his idea made wonders. What I did extra was adding JB Weld to both surfaces (scuff the plastic and metal before applying the glue). I hammered the tube down gently. Once its settled, this spot becomes much stronger and doesnt look ugly. This repair should be done early on instead of waiting till the cracks develop further. BTW, the new version of this vacuum now uses clip in style instead of friction - which I believe to be no good because the weak spot remains weak while you no longer have the option to mend it by adding a straight tube. The picture shows that I cut the tube longer to the edge of spout. Picture uploading function is not available now. Still dont know why there is no uploading pic button anymore...

31-03-2025First off, you should NOT buy this vacuum if: You don’t own any other Makita power tools. You expect this to be your main vacuum. You need this to clean thick carpet. Also I HIGHLY recommend getting the “199553-5 Cyclonic Vacuum Attachment” with it, so much so that IMO it should come with it and be part of the kit. I paid ~$120 (on sale) for the quick charger, 2 AH battery, and vacuum and at most would pay $150 for that kit. At ~$120, I do think it’s a great deal as the battery and quick charger alone are easily worth ~$90, so getting the vacuum for ~$30 is great. However, this is also why I say you need to have other Makita power tools, because if you have no use for the charger or battery outside of this vacuum it’s a terrible deal. I use this vacuum to clean my car and garage, and for these tasks it’s fantastic. It’s super light and with the added filter is the perfect length for me to clean the floor (I’m 6’3”) and I use it all the time to clean up random stuff like metal chippings from drilling to dirt tracked in from outside. It can clean short carpet (stuff like entry mats) very well. However, it does not clean thick carpet well as the suction isn’t super strong (at least compared to my Shark vacuum). As I mentioned earlier, I think you essentially HAVE to buy the extra filter as it allows you to use the vacuum without needing to change the main filter and it also seems to improve the suction of the vacuum as well. The added filter essentially acts as the “bag” of the vacuum and makes it much easier to dump out the collected dirt and “protects” the main filter significantly. So much so that I still haven’t had to replace it despite using it frequently and owning it for almost a year. Again I do NOT suggest this as your main/only vacuum as it’s just not up to that task, but as a second/portable vacuum this is a GREAT vacuum.

> 3 dayWith a 4 amp battery, this vacuum will go a long time. The dust cup is easy to clean and the tool is balanced about right. Good suction. Sadly, my wife has seized possession of this vacuum. Overall, this is a keeper.

> 3 dayI love tools powered by rechargeable batteries and have loved my grass trimmer, blower and power drill. So when I saw this vacuum cleaner and decent reviews AND reasonable price, I went for it and now I have two!! My home has never been so clean. If you have time to do the whole house, you can, but often, just a couple of rooms is all you have time for. It makes vacuuming quick, easy and so convenient. Its plenty powerful and the reach of the nozzle is fantastic. Easy to get under beds and sofas and tight corners. Cleaning the filter is a cinch. I bought a larger battery just as a back up but I have never really lost the charge. This is so great that I thought my daughter might find it useful for her suite at college. Shes never been a neatnik but its so light, convenient and quick and easy that she and one of her roommates sent me a cute picture of them with the vacuum cleaner. Too bad she wont let me post it!! 10/29/18 - a bit disappointed with the cracking of the blue/neck part which connects the rod. The very few poor reviews seem to experience the same problem. Some recommend a hose clamp and report great success. What style and size etc.? I tried duct tape and it works ok but the nozzle gets lose. It should be stronger with perhaps a latch to secure it while it has the hose/rod attachment. I am probably too aggressive with it and I am certainly vacuuming more than I ever did. It is still a GREAT little vacuum. It just needs to physically last for longer than a few months. But the design and the power and the convenience so far cant be beat. The physical body needs to stand up to the rest of it.

> 3 dayThought we could buy a hand held rechargeable in the $35 range, and you can. Talked to a couple of friends who shared stories of battery failures, broken components that are not available for replacement on the budget models. THIS VACUUM IS AWESOME! As I already own many 18v LI battery Makita tools and batteries, it was the logical choice. Most of our floors are hardwood and this vacuum does an outstanding job cleaning up after our three Westhighland White terriers and a ginger cat. Very light and maneuverable, will access many places our ac powered vac wont go. Wont replace our ac vac for our deep pile carpeted areas where a beater bar is a must.

> 3 dayA number of years ago I was looking for a hand vac. I read lots of reviews and this one had so much praise, but what impressed me was the positive reviews from men on ease of use because of the extension and the strong suction. One man said he even made it longer for him with pvc pipe. I bought one and it is one of the best investments I have ever made. Since then I have bought five more. Two of those were bought for our oldest son, one for a baby gift and then another one when they bought a two story house ( one for each level). I gave another son one when he and his wife moved. I have three. Two of those are at our primary home and the other at a second home. This vacuum is wonderful! I just got my third one and it came with a wall hanger. None of my others had this. I have looked for the holder as a separate purchase but no success. I hope Makita offers this soon.

> 3 dayLet it be known I searched high and wide before buying this vacuum. While it leaves off a few things I think are indispensible (in a perfect world), I am reviewing it for what it DOES have. I knew before I bought it there was no headlamp, no stand, and had a trigger switch with no lock. BUT...I didn’t want to spend twice as much on a commercial brand with a crappy battery just to get those amenities. In my experience and for my needs an 18volt rechargeable is a minimum. This product has that, AND I can easily purchase an extra or replacement battery. It’s also easy to order more filters (which is prudent if you want the battery to last). I can vacuum 1000 sq ft (hardwood and tile) without losing suction, get ALL THE HAIRBALLS and crumbs in low profile places (like under the fridge), and it is super lightweight. The head pivots/rotates well enough. The one negative that other reviewers have mentioned is that it is NOT made for tall people - I’m only 5’2” and I can just barely extend it arms reach without having to bend over. I assume it will be great for car cleaning so that’s a plus. Overall I would definitely recommend this vacuum if your needs are similar to mine.
