For the most part, I like this software/hardware product. I actually am very happy with the hardware. It is easy to connect my old camcorder to my computer and transfer to digital format. I have been putting them (transferred home movies from VHS) on disk drives (I call them thumb drives). My somewhat low rating is for the editing software. If you try to get too fancy making changes, the program stops responding and if you dont save your project OFTEN, you lose all the work (and a lot of time) you put in up to that point. The PDF directions are easy to read and comprehend but it wont let you email it to print from a different printer. (Mine is out of ink right now and I wanted to email it to work so I could print it on that printer.) There are a few other options Id like to see added. For example, there is a title screen and a credits screen in the storyboard editing. You cant copy a photo into either of these screens. It would be nice to be able to do that. It would also be nice to add a picture to the transitions between clips. And, I discovered (during this last non-responsive error) that you can add text to a clip but only to the beginning of a clip. I would like to add text to the middle of a clip, kind of like an editorial during events. I will continue to use this program; I just have to remember to save the project often and find other tricks to make title pages and ending credit pages the way I want them by making a new clip screen and adding a picture. Hopefully, it wont freeze before I get each edit done.

The item is really easy to use. You only need to install the program CD and it works very easy. The quality of the file is not very high but its O.K. Probably the items with higher price have better quality than this one. One more notice: All my tapes are more that 3 hours long, the VIDBOX makes record only for max. 3 hours and I am forced to record the remained 15-20 Minutes separately.

Im using a Surface Pro 4 and the editing software doesnt work. It worked the first time and then afterwards it stopped. The video quality is poor compared to original vhs or 8mm tape and works inconsistently. Audio background noise and video discoloration and banding are evident but not on the original tape. The cables are cheap and often come loose. I had to use my own. You have to exit the software and then reopen if you are doing multiple captures or recordings. When first playing a video sometimes the software doesnt display the video and you have to exit and reopen the software.

While it functions, this is impressive software with several clever features that make converting old VHS or 8mm tapes to DVD format. But users should be patient, as the program will lock up without warning during the capture phase and youll have to close it out with task manager and start over again. The phone-access customer support staff were friendly and offered suggestions to fix the glitch, but to no avail. Now out $60, Ill be looking for other software options as I dont have time to attempt capturing videos 2 or 3 times.

Ive tried at least two other analog A/V to USB converters in the past and sent them back because either they didnt install correctly at all or produced very small, poor quality digital video copies. This device installed flawlessly on my Windows 10 desktop machine. I didnt use the included CD, but instead downloaded the latest drivers directly from Honestech. I followed the installation instructions exactly and allowed time for everything to install. I used the program so far to save an MPG file from an old VHS tape and to record a DVD using my PCs DVD burner. In both situations, everything was flawless. The mpg file was full-screen with quality equal to that of the VHS tape (old home movie). I havent played with some of the other features of the program, but so far Im pleased with this device and the software. It is serving the purpose for which I bought it.

Impressed with the way this converter software and device has evolved from version 3 that I purchased 2 plus years ago. This new (Latest) version software makes video transfer a breeze in all ways. Well worth the price for all it does and all that is included. Great for converting VHS as well as 8MM video to newer formats to stream, burn to DVD or watch directly on TV..And yes, shipping was as always super fast.

Im very happy with this software. Installation was quick and easy. I opted NOT to install the QuickTime portion of the software, which shouldnt be an issue, as I plan on using the Easy Wizard mode only. So far Ive transferred two VHS tapes to DVD, and both look very good. Typically VHS film quality, mind you. But thats to be expected when your source is VHS. The transfers to DVD are perfectly watchable. The only issue I saw was a small wavy line appearing at the very top of the frame(s). However, this doesnt detract from enjoying the DVD transfer, in my opinion. (Im not sure if this is a VCR tracking issue or something that normally occurs during the VHS to DVD transfer). My VCR only has one Audio OUT jack. So this results in the audio being heard in one channel only, IF listening to the DVD with headphones. However, this should be rectified by using a 2-Female to 1-Male RCA Y-adapter connection (costs around $5 to $10). The sound will still be mono but at least it will be heard through both the left and right channels (when listening with headphones). All in all, I am extremely pleased I chose this product for my VHS transfers. (My operating system is Windows 8.1 with a 2.0 GHz processor).

We love this product. We had dozens of cassette recordings, years of family stuff, all had been loaded in a dusty cardboard box... for who ever looks at cassettes anymore??? This product saved our family memories, converted them to DVD, where we now burn copies onto DVDs and share those family adventures with our grown kids. Example, our kids were little at their ballgames or birthday parties or talent shows or... and we got them on those old cassette videos. Problem is though we taped a lot of the game/party... way too much. Using this product, we found it easy to clip our old videos, cutting out the parts that no one will ever want to watch, then we merged our clips into a smooth DVD file, titling and dating each one simply by naming each file uniquely. This project is time consuming, dont think this job is going to be done in one day or two shifts. If you have a 45 minute VHS cassette, itll take 45 minutes to convert it to DVD, then, depending on how many clips you cut, add another 45 minutes to realizing your finished DVD product. The few questions I had were quickly answered when I called Honestech for help. Wife, kids and I love it.

After recording 40 DVDs excellent results, also have used on VHS and Super 8 cam recorder. I used the picture software that accompanies the product to pull photos from my scanner and crop and reprint. I was a little skeptical when I read the other reviews but as sold on this product. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to save their old VHS tapes movies to purchase this product.

I knew going in that this product was likely to disappoint, but having read reviews for many of the other similar products, it seemed they all had their fair share of cons, so I took a chance. The bad: This software crashes. A lot. Without warning. For no perceivable reason. I tried updating the software, downloading new firmware, uninstalling/reinstalling, and nothing seems to work. While easy to use, the software does have some blind spots, most notable in the picture slideshow creator. That part of the software is basically unusable due to lack of option for sorting the photos and creating multiple separate slideshows for one DVD. The good: Even through the many crashes, I was able to eventually get my home movies onto the computer and create DVDs from them. I found that if I simply left the software alone and didnt touch the window at all during the download process, it would not freeze. It was annoying, and certainly not something I should have to do after paying $40+ for a product. I do not recommend this product. The ONLY reason I did not return it myself was because I was downloading home movies from VHS to create DVDs for a Christmas present, and I simply did not have the time to return it and look for a better product. Even on deep discount, this thing is broken and a real pain to work with. Its a travesty that something like this is released and continued to be sold. UPDATE: Three years later. Hi again. I just built a brand-spanking new computer with all the bells and whistles. I thought Id give this product another shot (seeing as how I had some more VHS tapes Id like to digitize) with the new rig. Certainly all those old problems were due to my lackluster budget computer, right? Wrong. The same freezing issues persist even now, with a AMD Ryzen 2700X CPU, 16 GB memory, new GPU, etc etc. I said not to buy this at $40+, and its apparently only gone up in price over the years to $75+. You do the math. There has to be a better option. 2021 Update: No idea why I keep thinking this junk is going to work. Its only gotten worse over the years. Now the video doesnt play in the screen on the computer either. Worst purchase Ive ever made.
