VIDBOX VHS to DVD 8.0 Deluxe

Dont tread on me
> 3 dayI had a Diamond video capture device and VHS to DVD 3.0 that served me well for MANY years. Only recently did the Diamond stop working. I started looking for the replacement. Since I have been happy with the VHS to DVD product, this item caught my attention. I can tell you that the hardware that ships with it was quickly set up and is recognized by the system with no issues. The new version of VHS to DVD is a bit dumbed down, but it still does a great job of capturing off my DVR, VHS and other sources I have tried. I recommend it as a replacement for any old hardware / software you have for video capture.

Greater than one weekMay change this if I get a hold of support. But got this for my wifes birthday she wanted old vhs home movies transferred. Each tape is 30 minutes. The first time I tried easy mode and it said it recorded it all but ended up with only 8 minutes. Then I did it again in advanced mode mpeg2 and got the full 30 minutes so was like ok now we are in business. But later started anther tape recorded 30 minutes at 1.8 gig, but then after it stopped it said 30 minutes at 1.8 gig, but only wrote a 700 meg file with the last 9 minutes on it. Thats also what it showed in the edit part. Tried 3 times same result. Now trying a 4th in wmv to see if that makes a difference. I do not care the format I will be re-coding in handbrake to hevc anyway. I raised from 1 to 3 stars, because it actually does you just have to leave it running on top of the screen or it will cut it. At least in windows 10 if it gets tabbed down you have to start over. I have used a lot of encoding software and this is more like a screen capture software that catches its box only and only when its on top.

Greater than one weekAwesome buy. I bought this in conjunction with a vhs converter and have been extremely pleased. The software is awesome and offers a lot of editing options, and is straightforward to use even for novices. Also, the product works well through constant usage without drop off in quality. Video quality depends on the input, but I just saved 20 years of home movies with this product. Cant ask for more than that.

Greater than one weekWow. I had postponed buying something like this for years because I really wasnt sure what I needed. After searching around on Amazon and leaving the site, still confused, a wonderful email (thank you, Amazon!) showed up in my inbox, recommending the honestech VHS to DVD 8.0 Deluxe (marketing automation at its best). Their packaging was so simple to understand. I knew immediately it was exactly what I needed. The price was much less than I thought I had to spend ($55). And I got Prime shipping. Set up took just a few minutes, and I started copying all my old VHS tapes (ah, the memories!). Im just thrilled to finally start tackling this project. The ONLY negative Ive come across, is that I have to be there when the VHS tape ends, or the software will eventually eject the DVD without recording on it. This limits when I can work on it. Very, very excited to have this product.

> 3 dayI’ve been meaning to convert my old VHS and camcorder tapes and wanted to make sure that someone could help me if I ran into any problems since I have no experience in any of this. I was a little hesitant at first after reading some of the reviews but decided to give this product a try anyway because they seem to be the only one I found to have customer support and people who used their older products seem to like them. I ran into some problems at first when I couldn’t see anything on my PC so I called the customer support and they walked me through the whole thing. It turned out that I just connected the cables wrong. I felt a little embarrassed but the guy I talked to was very patient and nice, and even made sure everything worked fine before getting of the phone. Other than the glitch at the beginning, I’m actually surprised by how easy it was to use! I even tried to edit a little using their more advanced mode. I’m definitely glad that I got this product and would recommend it to others like me.

> 3 dayDelivered as expected; works as expected. Ive been using the device for 2 weeks. I like the ability to view the VHS recordings on my computer screen as I decide which recordings to save. After I was using it for several hours, the picture failed. I telephoned the help desk and the rep advised that he was aware of the problem and that I should be able to regain viewing the picture by trying a different USB port or re-booting my computer. So far, the problem seems to occur only after several hours of usage. If the problem continues, the Honestech VHS to DVD wont be useful for extended viewing and recordings.

> 3 dayWorks as intended! Easy setup and connections between a VCR and computer enabled me to copy old home VHS tapes. Once copied to your computer, the files easily burned onto a DVD. Gotta copy them before the tape wears out - or the VCR breaks! One note of caution......my VCR as 3 different sets of audio/video jacks. It didnt work on the one set of jacks, but did for the other. Something to be aware of in case you encounter a problem during setup.

> 3 dayThe USB Box is great and works very well. The Video Editing SW works to edit video. The editing tools are very basic. Much time spent single stepping in frame, and second increments to get to the frame to cut. Makes DVDs that play on your computer, but does not make those that play in a video player. Some how apparently not included.

Greater than one weekThe package did great at converting my VHS videos to digital files, although I wish it had an HDMI interface (does anyone still have S-VHS cables?). The short coming I found was in the software to edit the digital files after I converted them so that I could string them together into one DVD video, with chapter breaks and such. I had to get other software to do that. But with the conversion it did great.

> 3 dayI bought this to replace a VCR/DVD combo recorder that I bought ten years ago because the VCR does no longer work. The VCR/DVD combo worked well and made good copies of my family tapes before the VCR died. I decided to try this Vidbox because it was 1/4 the cost of a VCR/DVD combo recorder. This Vidbox was easy to set up, simple software, and easy to record. The problem I have with it is that the quality of the video is poor. I tried 3 different VCRs and really good quality RCA cables with no better results. Pixels in the video as well as no video at times. It has a setting to correct this problem, however I could not tell any difference with it on or off. It might convert better if you are trying to copy store bought videos. That was not my reason for purchasing this. I have personal videos that I wanted to preserve and it just did not cut the mustard.
