This package does a pretty good job of capturing VHS tape video for editing and creation of a DVD. The quality of the transfer depends on the quality of the VHS tape. The software is basic and easy to use, but includes most features that are necessary. I did not try to record audio only or create a slide show, so I cant speak to all aspects of the software. The hardware seems to be well built and the software works smoothly on my relatively old Windows 7 machine. In all, it is what I expected.

The device works very well for recording old VHS tapes. The product saved me a lot of time and money! The instruction manual would be greatly improved if more detail was included with respect to selecting the appropriate settings when using the setup wizard. I think novice users may find it difficult to follow.

I have to say Im very disappointed in this software. I purchased and installed on a brand new computer with plenty of memory and a very fast processor. I hate how you have to click on the Text box several times before it will come up for editing. The instructions in the users manual are almost useless. (the users manual seems to be for a older version of the software). Adding chapters is impossible to figure out as there is no instructions in the manual that tell you how. I cant log into Facebook to upload a video. For some unknown reason, when I added multiple photos to a slideshow, it imported them upside down! The software crashes when you go to the next screen to burn the DVD. Im not a novice when it comes to working with software like this. Ive used similar software for years, but purchased this package for the small USB Video Capture Device, because Ive tons of family movies to transfer. Now Im looking for different software and mad that I spent my money on this and wasted so much time trying to figure out how it works!

Used with Windows 7, 64 bit OS and a 15 year old VHS. I had only unedited transfers from VHS direct to DVD to do, and it did this easily and flawlessly. Very simple to use for this purpose, but I have not tried its advanced features.

While it functions, this is impressive software with several clever features that make converting old VHS or 8mm tapes to DVD format. But users should be patient, as the program will lock up without warning during the capture phase and youll have to close it out with task manager and start over again. The phone-access customer support staff were friendly and offered suggestions to fix the glitch, but to no avail. Now out $60, Ill be looking for other software options as I dont have time to attempt capturing videos 2 or 3 times.

Except for a few loading issues on Windows 10 I would have given this a 5 star rating. One error message said that it could not load a file because it already existed (so what?) and I skipped that issue. A second issue involved the on-line registration which indicated that my machine was not connected to the internet which it was. These little set-up problems out of the way I tried to capture a video. No problem. It is really quite simple and the 30 odd page manual is a big improvement over the Dazzle one of 300 pages which is on its way back. Thank you Amazon. Dazzle is made by a company noted for video editing and did not separate themselves from that genre long enough to provide a no frills user friendly approach to transferring a vcr video onto a dvd or onto ones computer. Dazzle would do well to consider a quick start guide similar to the one everyone else uses. If one is interested in serious video editing it will probably require a dedicated program. For the simple conversion, this is the best one available.

We love this product. We had dozens of cassette recordings, years of family stuff, all had been loaded in a dusty cardboard box... for who ever looks at cassettes anymore??? This product saved our family memories, converted them to DVD, where we now burn copies onto DVDs and share those family adventures with our grown kids. Example, our kids were little at their ballgames or birthday parties or talent shows or... and we got them on those old cassette videos. Problem is though we taped a lot of the game/party... way too much. Using this product, we found it easy to clip our old videos, cutting out the parts that no one will ever want to watch, then we merged our clips into a smooth DVD file, titling and dating each one simply by naming each file uniquely. This project is time consuming, dont think this job is going to be done in one day or two shifts. If you have a 45 minute VHS cassette, itll take 45 minutes to convert it to DVD, then, depending on how many clips you cut, add another 45 minutes to realizing your finished DVD product. The few questions I had were quickly answered when I called Honestech for help. Wife, kids and I love it.

    Greater than one week

The item is really easy to use. You only need to install the program CD and it works very easy. The quality of the file is not very high but its O.K. Probably the items with higher price have better quality than this one. One more notice: All my tapes are more that 3 hours long, the VIDBOX makes record only for max. 3 hours and I am forced to record the remained 15-20 Minutes separately.

I converted 54 hours worth of tape into a 7 hour family film. Great for beginners, easy editing.

Delivered as expected; works as expected. Ive been using the device for 2 weeks. I like the ability to view the VHS recordings on my computer screen as I decide which recordings to save. After I was using it for several hours, the picture failed. I telephoned the help desk and the rep advised that he was aware of the problem and that I should be able to regain viewing the picture by trying a different USB port or re-booting my computer. So far, the problem seems to occur only after several hours of usage. If the problem continues, the Honestech VHS to DVD wont be useful for extended viewing and recordings.
