> 3 dayThe screen is so bright it makes the colors pop. My old monitor has clouding issues and man, I was missing so much by not upgrading earlier. Maybe I can get a replacement screen for my older monitor so that my eyes will be better off.

> 3 dayAmazing response rate! This is the current top of the line for fast gaming . 144hz mode is great, but the real advantage is using 120hz mode with the lightboost trick. This trick eliminates basically ALL motion blur by syncing the backlight with pixel updates (so only correct images are displayed). This is at 120hz - so you get amazing response, no input lag, and no motion blur. Not sure how it can get any better than this as far as performance is concerned. One drawback is the color gamut. It is not top of the line, and probably worse than the average LCD panel in this price range. But that is the price to pay for its amazing performance specifications. Using the lightboost trick removes almost any calibration you can make to the monitor, so unfortunately theres not way to get both a great picture and great performance. The adjustable stand is great - lots of vertical movement, rotation (of the stand and monitor), and tilt. Not much downward tilt, so youll have to make sure your eyes are at least at the middle of the monitor in a natural position, but the monitor collapses to that its about 1 in off the the desk, so this shouldnt be problem in most situations. Havent used 3D on it yet (but the 3D features are required to do the lightboost trick). Theres a new technology coming out, Gsync, from nvidia that is the successor to the lightboost trick (since this isnt officially recognized by nvidia), but requires a hardware upgrade. So far, this is the only monitor that supports Gsync (with the upgrade), though im guessing more monitors will come out with it built in. For the price, you cannot get a better gaming monitor.

> 3 dayThe monitor Ive wanted for such a long time. 24, so larger than anything I had before (18), 3D capable, fantastic price, and just in time for my GPU upgrade for FO4 and DOOM. Its worked perfectly since I got it a few months ago, not one hiccup once I got the matching DVI cable to go with it (there are certain ones required, I used the BlueRigger DVD Make to DVI Male Digital Dual-Link Cable, I would suggest the same if you need one. The only reason I left it at 4 stars instead of 5 is, and I know this a refurbished unit, but the bezel and base are scratched up. Pretty bad, its very easily seen. I take good care of my equipment so seeing scratches on my stuff is rare so it stands out like a sore thumb. Nothing on the screen, just the bezel and stand. Screen is 100% flawless, I havent noticed any odd pixels or lighting, its been 100% perfect in operation for me. If youre on the fence about a refurbished product, I know a lot of people are, its a pretty good bet you wont have any operational issues with this, even if it is a little scuffed up. It was packed extremely well, fairly confident that unless they used it for a volleyball that shipping damaged are not likely. Came with monitor, base and mounting screws. Oddly the base allows for portrait and landscape, you can stand it up vertical if you wish, nice touch, but Im not sure why.

> 3 daylet me preface this by saying in the past I have had 60Hz monitors with a response time somewhere around 5ms, needless to say this is a major upgrade from the past. The monitor showed up in its base packaging, no exterior box around it to hide what was in it, which annoyed me but is no reason to take a star off from this product. inside it was padded with some Styrofoam and it had some thin plastic over the glossy parts so as to prevent smudges and initial damage from the factory. It also comes with an attachment at the base that helps to keep the power cord and the DVI Cable from being seen. There are three cords included in the packaging, a DVI Cable for video, an AUX Cable for the built in speakers, and of course the Power Cable. the AUX Cable feels rather cheap and probably wont hold up to much wear and tear, however both the power cord and the DVI Cable appear sturdy and of better quality. there are also ports available for other inputs such as HDMI, and Displayport, however it does NOT include those cables, it only includes a Dual-Link DVI Cable. One word of caution, although it may just be my cable, but I tried to plug an HDMI Cable in, but it would not transmit at the full 144Hz, it limited itself to about 60 Hz. it may have been my cable specificly but that is something to watch out for. The monitor comes with a CD that includes some software to manage and adjust various settings, however it is also available straight from the manufacturers website. Now for the features on this! The VG248QE Comes with a built in cross hair setting that displays either a Green or Red with two different types on the screen. I find this is cool in concept, even useful in games like Counter Strike, but I do have a couple of grievances. for one, the Red Crosshairs are offset by about a pixel to the right, this may be me being picky but that bothers the living daylights out of me! also I dont like how fancy the crosshairs are, I would personally prefer a simple + without all the other crap around it. And lastly I wish the image size was customizable. there is too much screen space taken up by it in my opinion, so adjusting the size would be nice! it comes with various preset monitor settings including, Theater, Gaming, Scenery, Night View, sRGB, and Standard. From what I can tell, the changes are as follows: Scenery Livens up the colors, making colors brighter, which you commonly seen done on professional photography level. Gaming brightens the colors as well but with less contrast, allowing you to see figures in the dark shadows. it also Sharpens the images, giving defining figures I have not yet tested the other modes, so I can not comment on them. The screen itself moves 90 degrees clockwise, it will also swivel on its stand, be angled anywhere between 15 and -5 degrees and it can move up and down ~11cm. I love the way you move this monitor, its not jerky, and there dont appear to be any preset spots for it to sit, instead it almost flows when you adjust it up and down. I have also not had any issues of it falling down or repositioning itself in any way thus far. One slightly disappointing thing is that the Viewing angles seem rather narrow, and I find I can not have too many people crowd around it. Now onto the things everyone cares about. The Refresh rate. As I have previously stated up to this point every monitor I have owned has been a 60Hz monitor. Needless to say there is a large difference between 60 and 144 Hz. However I could not tell at first, simply because I forgot to go into NVidias Control Panel and allow my G Card to go above 60 fps. Once I had that figured out, I dont think I will ever go back! The motions of moving, in game or in the browser are remarkably smooth, so much so that it was very unsettling at first. and everything on screen is so much clearer! your graphics card doesnt have to render blurred images because your producing more images each second, so they can be clearer, more precise. This improved refresh-rate made this monitor worth every penny! To Long? Didnt Read? Heres a quick Pros Cons! Pros: 144Hz 1ms Response time multiple preset screen settings Built in crosshair Low in price compared with other 120/144Hz monitors 24 Inches Cons: Did not come with 3D Gear No USB Ports Narrow viewing angle Red Crosshairs Slightly offset All in all, as a avid gamer, I highly recommend getting this monitor, assuming of course that you are getting ~144 fps in game! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: 7-31-14 So after using this monitor a while I tried playing on a different monitor at 60 Hz, for those that own this monitor you know, it is painful to try to go back! it feels so choppy and extremely blurred compared with the ASUS 144HZ. I still have had no issues with the screen moving, and not a single dead pixel yet, whereas my old 60 Hz monitor has about three scattered about the screen. I find that I usually play in the gaming mode due to the added ability to see the enemy hidden in the shadows!

> 3 dayPros: Monitor is large yet compact and will not take up a lot of space on a desk. The ability to raise and lower the screen vertically with just a push makes going from low/eye level when typing to fully elevated for watching movies farther away really convenient. The very bottom of the monitor is 2 from the desk when its fully lowered and 6 7/8 from the desk when fully raised (just some info I wish knew when buying). Although I likely wont use it that often, I also like the option to swivel the monitor into a vertical orientation. Lastly, the 144 Hz refresh rate is extremely noticeable especially if youre coming from an old 60 Hz monitor. Mouse movement, window dragging & video games are so much smoother and fluid. Others may disagree but I found the viewing angles for the monitor to be very forgiving. Granted, if you try and look from a 45 degree angle youll see some yellowing/bluing and darkening but that is expected of a TN panel. Cons: The monitor will ONLY work in 144 Hz mode when using the DVI or DP ports and a resolution of 1920x1080. I bought an HDMI cable assuming it would support 144 Hz but its capped at 60 Hz. Maybe thats just my lack of understanding technical information about HDMI and DVI/DP so I can let it slide, I just wish it was stated. Out of box, in all the default Splendid viewing modes the colors were very washed out and each mode was VERY bright. After a bit of research, this appears to be a common problem with the monitor. The solution is to download custom ICC profiles. A simple search of the monitor model number and ICC profiles leads you to multiple tutorials on how to load these profiles. After the profiles are applied the difference is obvious; the colors, contrast, brightness etc. are all improved dramatically. I only wish ASUS put a little more work into the default settings so I wouldnt have to adjust anything. Summary: Overall, the monitor is the perfect size for sitting up close but also big enough to watch movies from afar. There were no defects, scratches, or dead pixels (so far) out of the box. The screen is very bright and clear, but youll likely have to download an ICC profile or tweak the settings to get the picture/colors that are best for you. Be sure you have a dual-link DVI supported video card before purchasing because the 144 Hz can only be unlocked using DVI/DP. For a $277 monitor with 144 Hz capabilities and decent-good picture quality (after adjustment) its a solid buy.

> 3 dayASUS VG248QE 24 Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms... What do we all want to know about the ASUS VG248QE 144HZ monitor. For a while i was curious and started my research about monitors and the refresh rate and what the benefits were and how much it would affect my budget along with do i have a decent graphics card and how that would affect my gaming experience and myself coming from a ips monitor was it going to be worth it and could i take the leap for a 144HZ monitor and like i have read beforeand let me tell you,if you are ready for a TN monitor at 144HZ look no further this ASUS VG248QE 24 is absolutely beautiful, and i mean you could be watching one of your music videos and kinda get the feeling that you could just reach into the monitor or put your hand right under the front of the this monitor and scoop whatever you want and grab it right out into the palm of your hand/s,and this is no joke.I really dont see how some people complain about the color because after a couple of days i found my settings and not the settings you will see posted here on some other reviews to work for this monitor. So if you are truly ready for a TN monitor with over 60HZ look no further because i spent over a year reading post after post, site after site and i will never go back to a IPS monitor again hands down.So anyone reading this post congratulations and kudos for taking the leap of pixels.

> 3 dayNote: My old monitor was a 24inch Samsung widscreen monitor with a 3000:1 contrast ratio. This is an absolute beautiful monitor! The colors are vibrant and everything looks so smooth and crisp. The first time I plugged it in I just started at my desktop background for a couple minutes, and then started browsing pictures on the internet. It was truly a whole new experience. My friend came over a couple days after I had installed it, and he was blown away too. Games, internet, movies, photos, all look amazing. Youre going to see a lot more detail that you missed before, even if you had a similar sized monitor. The 144hrz of the monitor means 144fps, compared with the conventional 60-75 hrz (60-75 fps). If you play the latest games, and are a huge gamer, you probably wont be able to notice a difference in framerate, since the target fps is around 40-60 with your video card. But if you play older games that support higher frame rates, or you play games at lower quality to get 100~ fps, then this will be a huge jump. MAKE SURE TO SET YOUR DISPLAY OPTIONS TO 144HRZ TO EXPERIENCE IT PROPERLY! One thing to note when handling the monitor: When tilting it 90 degrees, from landscape to portrait, If its too low you can scratch the pristine base. Make sure to lift up the monitor as high as possible before rotating it. I scratched mine sadly. :( If you want to do 3D, you are going to have to buy special Nvidia 3D glasses and youll need an Nvidia compatible video card. The glasses are around $50-$100, and the card could go well above $200. I already have the card, and I hope to buy the glasses soon.

> 3 dayIf youre a gamer and youre looking for a monitor, dont look any further; from one gamer to another: buy this, you will not regret it. Dont gimp your high performance setup and expensive hardware with a 60Hz monitor. If youre running current top-end GPUs and pushing frame rates over 60 FPS, if your refresh rate doesnt match your frame rate, youre going to have issues. The biggest thing Id like to push is the fact this monitor is not only built for gamers, it also looks amazing, do not in any way be dissuaded by reviews stating this monitor looks horrible, or has bad color. The capability for adding 3D and Nvidia G-Sync is also a great option to have. Ive seen some reviews on various websites that state this monitor looks washed out and other such cons, but Ive seen no such issues. Out of the box stock settings admittedly look bad; however these are just OEM default settings. A few minutes spent in the menu tweaking contrast, brightness, color correction etc., gets this monitor looking absolutely gorgeous. Some people recommend downloading ICC color profiles and jumping through hoops to try and make this look good. Bottom line: it isnt necessary. If you want to follow one of those guides, download a color profile and do all that, its your choice. But honestly, in less than 5 minutes you can have this monitor adjusted to your liking and looking great on your own just by adjusting some menu options. I used a Envy 17-3D gaming laptop for years with HPs LCD-LED display, and this Asus blows it out of the water by a country mile. I cant understand why some people write bad reviews for an item without fully testing it out first, and at the very least adjusting menu options. I paid $250 for this, and for a monitor under 300 dollars, I couldnt be more impressed with the features, and the visual quality. This is a gaming monitor built with gamers in mind. The vast majority of bad reviews stating this is a monitor with bad visuals are from people wanting to compare a $250 TN panel meant for gaming with monitors not built for gaming and 3 times the price. This monitor boasts a 144Hz refresh, 1ms GTG lag, amazing contrast ratio, availability for G-Sync & 3D upgrades, Gameplus features built in and other gamer-centric features. Comparing this to IPS monitors with only 60 Hz refresh rates, 10+ms GTG, input lag and cost anywhere from $500 dollars to well over $1,000, is far from correct. On top of being an amazing gaming monitor that will show no ghosting, artifacting or screen tearing and built in features for gamers, for a TN panel monitor this looks amazing. In my opinion during routine everyday PC use, and for gaming, youll see no noticeable difference in color and visual performance with this TN panel than you will higher priced lower performance IPS monitors. Finding a monitor that does gaming well, as well as have great visuals is a hard find, but this does it and it does it for a great price. The 24 monitor is large enough that you get a great view, yet not so large you have to constantly move your head side to side to see everything, or have to sit far away from the monitor just to get it all in your field of view. It has a good solid base, and a bracket for cable management on the back of monitor. The monitor swivels, it tilts, it pivots, it has height adjustment and you can flip the monitor for either a page orientation of 16:9 widescreen or a portrait orientation. So no matter your setup or how you sit at your PC, this monitor can be set for maximum comfort and best viewing. ** IMPORTANT: First, be sure your GPU has a DisplayPort I/O so you are able to use a DP cable to connect this to your GPU if you want the full range of performance this monitor offers. *DO NOT USE* HDMI or DVI with this monitor! If you use HDMI or DVI with this screen, you will not be getting or seeing the performance you paid for. Neither HDMI nor DIV/DVI-D are capable of full HD at more than 60 FPS (60Hz). The majority of the reason for going with this monitor is the superior 144Hz refresh, 1ms GTG, and no discernible input lag. Thus allowing high FPS with no graphical issues. If you want to be able to use your monitor at 144Hz, if you want to be able to run 100+ FPS and not suffer blurring, ghosting, artifacting, or screen tearing, and you want the best viewing experience and performance, DisplayPort MUST be used. This monitor only comes packaged with a DVI-D cable and audio cable, and does not come packaged with a DisplayPort cable; so be sure to pick up a VESA certified DisplayPort along with this monitor.

> 3 dayI like it. For the price that I got it at, I really, really like it. Ive read on a lot of reviews that people dont like the finish and how it attracts dust, I personally dont mind. When I got it I thought, wow people complain so much about such a small detail. But if it matters that much to you then, I dont know then, maybe a different monitor to avoid getting annoyed by the dust it collects? It honestly doesnt collect dust that much if you dust weekly (and my pc set up is in my bedroom so a blanket + carpet flooring by comparison) For the colors that people complain about, I just went into the monitor settings and adjusted the screen color and contrast to the way I find comfortable for my eyes. I did find that the default setting when you first get it did bother my eyes a little bit. If you work with photo shop or other applications and need precise color display then I wouldnt recommend this monitor, it was specifically for gaming for me. I dont have any complaints about the monitor, other than its a bit too big for my desk set up, but I have another monitor so thats my problem. My first 144 Hz monitor, the change in experience is pretty great. Changed my life forever. Im a college student so for this upgrade I felt it was a good deal (I had wanted a pure black monitor to match the pc color scheme and the other ones in the market didnt fall in that criteria) A month into having this monitor, thats pretty much all I have to say I think; will update if I have problems later.

> 3 dayI considered buying this monitor for a long time and I have to say that I am not disappointed. Firstly, to all those people out there who say that the human eye cant even detect refresh rates beyond 60fps or what not, I will say, 100%, with no doubt, hook me up to a lie detector, give me a blinded test that you are WRONG. The difference between a standard 60 vs the 144 which I use on this is extremely obvious. It is actually a little strange at first because it feels a little psychedelic like everything on the screen just got really, well, smooth! Whether or not this is somethign that matter to you is another matter. At this point, I prefer it, but I didnt have a problem at 60. Game wise, its response time and all that is nice, but I never played many twitch games so it never really mattered to me. The brightness is good. I work in a pretty dark environment, so the brightness doesnt matter to me as much, but compared to any other monitor Ive ever had, I would say this is just as good if not better than most. As far as 3D is concerned, I bought this initially because I thought 3D gaming...Awesome!!. So I bought the NVIDIA 3Dvision 2 kit and all that jazz and two days later, returned it all. Just wasnt as good as a wanted and there werent enough instantly compatible games to really make it worth it. I have the full 3D setup from my projector (Epson 5030U which I also reviewed-excellent projector) and truthfully, I decided that if I want to play 3D games, that big screen vs close screen didnt really change much for me. Size wise, I always would say to go bigger but realistically the monitor is perfect for me to work and mess around on. I sit about 2-2.5 feet away from my monitor and its size is just right. Also, I can see from A to AC on an excel spreadsheet in full screen standard view and that is plenty for the majority of my work. Thats a weird way to describe the size, but if it is relevant to you, then I did a good job :-) Overall, I was between this and a BenQ model that was similar and Im not thinking that I should have gone with the other one. I have nothing negative to say about the similar BenQ, I never used it. I dont know if I made the right choice, but Im not thinking about it anymore, so I feel like that means that I am pretty happy. I recommend.
