> 3 dayThis is not my first Time owning this kit. For the first timer it can be nerve wrecking drilling into an engine block. If you do enough research to build confidence, read instructions, take your time you will do fine. I own a repair garage . we see the famous ford v8s and v10s on a regular basis. Without this kit it would take a good ten hours to rip the head off and repair and/or replace the heads and hundreds of dollars. I can now do it for less than two hundred dollar per cylinder. Same day repair. The innovation Calvin tools offers is great. Amazon gets it to my location same day so thats a plus too. If you work on Triton three valve engines this is a must have kit. There is also a two valve kit from calvin tools. Wish everyone well.

> 3 dayWell where do i start... [The rubber hose that is supposed to let you know when the valves are closed] The air hose comes with an irregular 3/8 male IM style air hose plug. The plug that is included is so irregularly shaped that it would not lock into the 3/8 female IM connector from my compressor. I have included a picture of a good IM male plug next to it so you can see the difference. The additional problem is that the threads on the Calvan kit male plug are also not standard. So you cant just go to a big box store to pick up a different 3/8 plug. Instead the threads are something like 5/16, I had to go to a specialty hardware store to purchase a female to male bushing so that i would be able to use a standard 3/8 male IM plug. [The taps and reamer and guide] Not much to complain here. The quality is as good (or bad) as the rest of the kit. I didnt have an issue setting the guide in or drilling through the soft aluminum.. The groove on the tap should have an e-clio on it so it doesnt fall into the cylinder but it is not included in the kit so its another trip to the store. There is also a bit of confusion with the instructions. Update on reamer depth instructions: I got the ream to the first line instructions following a mechanic on YouTube. Unfortunately for me, that is the wrong procedure. I have contacted Calvan and they said you NEED to drill all the way through until the reamer is stopped by the pin. It was my mistake to follow someone elses instructions but since their instructions on the box dont specify that either, I wont subtract or add any stars. Their instructions only say drill not drill til you stop on the pin. I will give them an extra star just for the good communication/support through email. [Last but not least, the inserts] As soon as i saw these i knew i was going to have some trouble. I am no machinist but i can clearly see how the threads on the inserts are so poorly machined. Out of the 8 inserts only 2 had relatively clean and pointed v shaped threads on the exterior. The other 6 inserts had horrible flat edges making them seemingly unuseful. Out of the 2 good inserts only one had clean threads on the inside of the insert, where youre supposed to thread in your spark plug. The instructions also say to use a threadlocker but none is included in the kit. I knew this beforehand but im just pointing it out that they cant include it for the high price this kit fetches. To be fair the kit did allow me to repair my vehicle so ill give that a star. The high price tag/the total lack of quality control/poor machining/headache from the rest of the kit deplete the additional 4 stars. I dare not say it but even that certain Freight store would problably rival the quality of this kit. I dont know if i can recommend it as there is not very many options to repair these triton engines. I just wanted everyone to know to know what they are paying for. Some tips: Buy a borescope, cheap USB powered borescopes can be purchased on amazon for $10-30 dollars. Buy an assortment set of E-Clips, the size you need is 5/8 inch. Buy some high temp red thread lock to lock the threads and JB Weld to seal the top of the hat. Buy a cheap air gun with a thin long probe but also drill a hole on the side of the probe. When you drill, the shavings inevitably get inside the cylinder. You blow them out but some will get stuck to the cylinder wall. Drilling a tiny hole on the side of the probe will help blast more shavings off the wall so they can be blown out.

> 3 dayI brought this kit and turned into a project. Everything went good until I try to install the insert. I get a couple of the threads started and then it stopped. Found out all 8 inserts were bad and calvan knows this issue. Look at the external threads if they are not V shape do not use them. My threads were more like flat threads. Called calvan and they are sending out 8 new inserts. Very inconvenience.

> 3 dayWe had the Ford Triton 6.8 V10 blow out the number 3 spark plug with only 70k miles on the engine. After doing some research we determined that the best system to repair the plug hole with the engine still in our E-450 RV was the Cal-Van Tools 38900. We did try having it fixed by a local mechanic who used the Dorman 42025 Spark Plug Thread Repair Kit, against our better judgement but we were trying to maintain a schedule. The repair didnt work and the cylinder leaked immediately. At least the mechanic refunded us the cost of his repair attempt but without a mechanic who uses the Cal-Van system available it was up to us to do it ourselves. We used Ron Williams on YouTube to learn all about the installation, Cal-Van should be sponsoring this guy, and we bought an inspection camera to complete the job. We also replaced the other nine spark plugs while we had access and torqued the new plugs to 22 lb-ft with anti-seize. Back on the road and the repair is working great! We have complete confidence in this repair system and would recommend it as the best way to repair the common issue on Fords Triton 2 valve engines of blowing out spark plugs.

05-01-2025My truck blew a spark plug on cylinder No. 4 and I really thought I was going to have to get my engine rebuilt. I found this kit and watched a couple of videos on it, and thought to myself, why not... whats the worst that could happen? I followed the instructions and completed each step listed in the kit, and low and behold it worked! My truck is running again! It is super important to make sure you follow each step and keep the cylinder cleaned out when making this repair, but its a lot better than buying a new engine or taking it to the shop to be repaired.

> 3 dayThis tool is extremely simple to use. Key thing to make sure you blow out all of the shavings from the cylinder before you put the time cert in.

> 3 dayThis is a great set to have if you own a 4.6 truck. Saves you from having to pull the head to fix a poor design in Ford trucks.
