First, full disclosure: we have 2 medium size (25 lb) dogs and yes. They shed. The i4 was our solution to cleaning up after them daily. We figured it would be a step up from our Dyson which has maybe a 15 min battery life. We were wrong. I occasionally unplug the base so I can plug something else in for an hour or two. The unit loses roughly 50% of its charge. So the solution to that is…. NEVER unplug the base/charger. It does a great job of cleaning up standard dirt/dust. But it typically just gathers up dog hair and leaves small clumps that I then have to walk around and pick up. The real kicker is, it’s maybe 5-6 months old and we suddenly get an error message. We followed the troubleshooting steps on iRobot’s site and even took the unit apart to ensure NOTHING under the hood was blocked, stuck, not functioning, etc.. We cleaned out the dust bin, replaced the air filter, ensured the cleaning module had zero obstructions, etc.. Nothing fixed the issue. So iRobot’s solution is to replace the cleaning head module for $65-$70…. despite the fact that there is NOTHING wrong with the one currently in the unit. It’s entirely possible the one we got was just defective. And that happens. But In the end, I wouldn’t recommend it for someone with dogs (or cats). It just doesn’t seem cut out for dog hair.

I had a robot3 and for a couple of years and got very frustrated with it. It would stop and say drop off detected when it was on a perfectly flat floor with no drop off anywhere in sight. Sometimes I would find it in the middle of a room just going aimlessly in circles. It would go into a corner and just get stuck. Took a long time to get finished. I got the robot4 and what a huge difference. It does not get lost, it does the whole house pretty quickly (1 story, 3 bedroom). It also does not get stuck on anything. They must have upgraded the software and improved the sensors. I am very happy with the robot4 and its overall performance.

I figured after the length of time this thing has been around most of the bugs would be worked out. Apparently not. I would not recommend if you have a lot of furniture or throw rugs. This may work well for large empty rooms but not much else. Constantly needs brushes cleaned (mostly long hair) and in the middle of certain rugs just detects a drop off and stops. Once you move it to new location near where it was it loses its ability to detect where it is and abandons the job. Cant finish 4 rooms without recharging first, even though I assume thats because of some throw rugs and bumping into things 100s of times. I can understand chairs and things that can move around and be a problem but walls and things like washers and dryers are pretty stationary. Oh well, gave it a try to see where the technology was and apparently they have a long way to go. Dont waste your money.

Took a few tries to get the mapping done right and set it up but wow this is what we expected when roombas first came out. We bought this and the the M6 wet mop and our floors are now spots less.

Roomba i4+ purchased off the Treasure truck listing. So far, a little disappointing. First off, to get it so sync up with the app - ALMOST impossible. Was just about to pack it up to return it and all of a sudden it linked. Not a great start. It did link up with Alexa quickly. A couple other notes, you can only map ONLY ONE room. Holy cow. Really? Thats disappointing. You can name all kinds of rooms, but you only save ONE room. Also, when it returned to the home base it dumped a bunch of crap that it had gathered up at the bottom of the ramp it sits on. It seems to do a fairly good job picking stuff up. It also did really well getting under things without getting stuck, over minor cords and thinner carpets. You do need to pick up shoes, etc. You do need to clear the side brush of human hair. The self emptying part seems to work fairly well, unless that is the reason it dumped stuff at the base .. (?) Then there is the part that you have to look up a use manual. Nothing comes with it. Not even how to empty the base! We use Youtube. Overall, the price was good. But youll need a lot of patience and ability (understanding) about how to get the manual or instruction on how to use. I am on the fence. Not sure I can recommend it just yet. I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. Expectations: robot silently keeps the house clean with a 45 day auto emptying bag. Reality: noise levels are uncomfortable on hardwood or carpet. Takes an hour to clean 400 square feet, then gets tangled in hair and requires manual service. It will not set up without wifi, I spent over an hour trying to use a hotspot, it would not go though activation, so a couple times I did run it manually by pushing the button. One thing I did not hear mentioned is the NOISE, that thing is whirring, sucking and bumping into objects. It’s not pleasant to be in the same apartment while it cleans, definitely not for a work from home arrangement. What prompted me to write this review is the fact that the first ever scheduled run after connecting to wifi simply failed. I come in and find the robot dead. Later I see a notification on my phone with a cleaning instructions. I ended up taking out both brushes and cutting the hair which is tangled at both bases. Previously I cut hair from the triangular spinner. So here goes my dream of low maintenance automatic cleaning. I thought it would keep cleaning for over a month before needing my attention .The hair (over 20 inches long) is not going away. So it will keep jamming every few runs. The speed is not great, our house is mostly empty hardwood with some rugs. The history says it cleaned 400 square feet in an hour. None of the jobs ever were completed, mostly because I got tired of the noise. I moved the base station a number of times, and each map is broken, looks like I need to do another reset after finding a permanent position. Overall, mediocre. I hope the motor would not burn out due to the hair situation

We use this unit in our upstairs with 3 carpeted bedrooms sitting area. I gave it a 3 on the noise level because it is LOUD when it empties. It is reasonably quiet while vacuuming. Battery life is not great, but given all the moving parts, this is probably expected for the size of the area it has to clean. As other comments indicate, it will get hung up on area rugs. I would not recommend it if area rugs have tassles or fringe, or are particularly thick. I bought another one from a big box retailer. Slightly different model but works the same and has the same parts. Ive had no problems with connectivity, or reporting with either. The mapping feature works great and keeps it from taking a dive off the steps.
