Klein Tools VDV501-852 Cable Tester with Remote, VDV Scout Pro 3 Test Kit Locates and Tests Voice, Data and Video Cables

I purchased this for my husband. He had it on his wish list for months but said it wasn’t something he had to have. I ordered it anyway & he “played with it for hours” telling me all he could do with it. Honestly, I have no idea what it exactly does but he’s quite impressed.

What a piece of junk, you would have to spend hours to use. The pass through connectors do not pass through, it is impossible to thread the wires into the connector. I missed the return date by a few days and now have wasted my money. I would have thought KleinTools were better than that.

It seems to be a great tool but it’s hard to learn how to use all the functions and I’ve been doing av for 20 yrs. They have packed to many functions into single buttons. More buttons would be nicer. With that said I’m returning this for another one because shipping smashed the screen and the digital digits are messed up. After receiving second one .’. It all works fine

This is the best tester I used so far. I know the are other testers that are probably better than this but those testers are at least $2k - $10k or something. This tester is something I could afford. Its easier for me to use, comfortable & useful. I recommend this tester for IT guys who want to test and trace cables.

I probably wouldnt have given it such a low mark except I went to the Klein website and dialed their 800 number...which immediately transferred me to a car warranty queue. Not sure why but the device failed to power on correctly and the display was stuck at a flashing Voltage, Fail, and PoE message. Did not respond to any key presses, did not respond when I connected a CAT 5e cable, no change when I tried a different battery.

Worked every time.

Used to test long runs of cat5 cable worked perfect found an open pair right away saved hours of troubleshooting

Great test kit for CAT-6 cables

Definitely worth the money as it pays for itself in time saved. First week I was pulling wire in an existing house to expand network, multiple 100-200 cat6 pulls. One run pin tested short on 6 and 7. Instead of searching or just pulling a new line I used the conductor length feature. Told me all conductors were 105 from my measure except for 6,7 which were only 100 which let me know the short was 5 from the opposite end. Sure enough there was a snag 5 from the end which was fixed in under 5 minutes.

Everything works great. Remote cable finders are great if youre looking for multiple cables at once. My main issue is that while its also a tone generator, it doesnt include a probe. Not even the biggest kit includes one (even though the case has a slot for one), which means you have to buy it separately for $40!
