Klein Tools VDV501-852 Cable Tester with Remote, VDV Scout Pro 3 Test Kit Locates and Tests Voice, Data and Video Cables

The “Starter Kit” that bears the same “Scout Pro 3” name and is nearly identical does not measure PoE. Why can’t Klein come up with a different name or some way to distinguish? Now I have to waste my time with a return.

Good tester with two big caveats: it has a horrible battery connector and it is inaccurate measuring ethernet cable length on pins 4 and 5. The first is a real bummer - no matter how well you plug in the battery, gently turning the device will eventually make it disconnect. This device is not even ready for hobbyist use, lest for a worksite.

This is a great cable tester for phone/ethernet/coax, comes with numbered remotes it can detect, has a bunch of test modes, can sense cable length, etc; its great value for the money.

This unit does what other products 3x its price does. Dropped it 50 feet and, except for a couple scratches, it is perfectly fine.

My cheap no name tester finally died, I wanted to get something that was a little better. I always like Klein tools, so I saw a bunch and finally decided on this. The tester works great and feels solid. The battery that came with mine was dead, not Kleins fault.

Unlike the scout 2 better for quick checks. This does get cumbersome and slow but does a good job
