Klein Tools VDV501-852 Cable Tester with Remote, VDV Scout Pro 3 Test Kit Locates and Tests Voice, Data and Video Cables

I like color scheme, like the large screen. What I would like to see Klein do is upgrade the remote so is a smart one and have it light indicator on the remote to indicate pass/fail installed . Also take advantage of the large screen, by having more information to indicate where/ what problems we are having, I wouldn’t have problem paying a little more for a smarter tester. I like Klein tools, I hope they improve over time..

It’s a great tester when you just need a wire map or length. The tone feature is not so great.

Great complementary tool for Network wiring. Saves time.

Originally, I was thinking about buying the Klein VDV526-200, but after using the VDV501-851, I think I made the better choice.

Perfect for checking existing wires

I really appreciate all the functionality and there’s nothing that I would dock a point for, but constructive feedback:

For the first time in 25 years, I had to bring up an already wired network in an existing building. Wire pulling would be too expensive, we had to use the existing 16 year old Cat5, which had never been connected at the network closet.

If you are serious about your work, this is a very good tool. I’d recommend getting a pouch or a bag to keep it safe and expand its longevity but it is pretty device rugged already. The tracing feature is so useful to fix lazy installers messes. The coax testing is very useful too. You might want to get the appropriate adapters if you are going to test BNC cables or connections and not just Ftype connections.
